Three months ago i cut my pinky & ring finger on a saw , surgery was completed & been going to physio for two months to get mobility in the fingers where they had to re-attache the tendons , that stretching is going well but the swelling on back of hand--palm of hand & fingers are giving me a problem , i've been working through that issue(soaking hand from hot &cold water)(wearing compression gloves)(wrapping the hand)(wearing a splint)(arm elevated) (massage) & now anoth
I still have noticable swelling in that joint, especially on the rt side, and considerable pain. The rest of my hand hurts lately, probably from compensating for the lack of use of the middle finger. Any ideas? Based upon the info and illustrations I have seen on the WWW it looks like its in the area of a ligament. Thanks for any response.
When i was 11 a girl broke my right index finger at school and no one believed me when I said it was broken. So obviously it wasn't splinted or even buddy tapped. In the eight grade my mom took me to a doctor that told her that my finger did break and that the bone healed eight degrees off. After six months of trying to buddy tape it and splint it, the bone only moved two degrees. The doctor recommended surgery to pin and straighten out the bone and my mom decided on getting me the surgery.
I was diagnosed with MS in August of this year and this finger pain was one of the earliest symptoms after I fainted in Feb (but had no idea that was anything serious) - I went to a rheumatologist for the finger pain and he couldn't find anything but did think I had carpal tunnel and the nerve test for that is what started me on the path to a MS diagnosis.
Do you have numbness of the index finger along with the pain? if yes, it could be carpal tunnel syndrome as it involves index finger mainly.
Another possibility is of Raynaud’s phenomenon which is constriction of the blood vessels of the fingers and toes. But it is accompanied by skin color changes.
Apply ice compresses over the finger. You can also take OTC pain killers. They should help. Also get your blood sugar levels evaluated.
Swelling went down after several days, then it came back with a vengence with severe swelling and lots of pain but this time only in the fingertip. The pressure was so intense that I tried to drain it, I know I shouldn't have. Nothing would come out. The pain was extreme and I did hot salt water soaks several times a day which was worse than any pain I have ever experienced!
For the problem you mentioned that your finger is pointing towards the pinky finger, there are some options like putting a brace to maintain the normal position. After a while, this brace can be removed.
Again, my advise is that you see a local physiotherapist to discuss your situation, and don't try any of the above suggestions on your own.
I fell down and perhaps the whole body weight rested on my finger, as a result of which the finger got swelling and little bent after a day followed by severe pain. The finger does not get straightened. I was advised by pharmacist to take Brufen tablets and apply some gel. As long as the tablet was taken for 3-4 days, the pain was not there.But no sooner the tablet was stopped, the pain again started.
I got X-Ray done of my finger and consulted an Orthopaedic Surgeon.
It swelled and bruised immediately at the base of her thumb and on the pad of her thumb by the inside wrist. Also, pain and swelling on the outside down low between thumb and pointer finger. It hurts to use it but she can pinch her finger and thumb together in a circle. We iced it last night and saw an orthopedic doctor today. The swelling has come down a bit. She xray-d it and said that she either broke it through the growth plate at the base of the thumb or sprained it.
Now I cannot make a fist with it. There is some bruising and swelling from attempting to make a full fist along with pain, and it is trigger locked. I will not try to see a Dr. due to military reasons. I have only a coup;e of months for this to recovery fully or else every thing I have worked towards the last 2 years is wasted. It is again in the PIP pinky joint of the right hand. I know there is joint injury, and maybe sheath damage. Would you recommend any OTC anti-calais medicine.
I am having pain in my Right index finger (knuckle) for almost two months now. I don't have any swelling, warmth, or redness around the site.
Could it be related to the distal radius fracture surgery which I had one year back on my Left hand.

For about a month now, my knuckle has been hurting pretty bad to bend it or even touch it. Today I noticed some swelling. Its my middle finger on my right hand and its swollen on the side closest to my pointer finger, its even a little red. As far as I can remember, I have never injuryed it. I use to be a package handler at FedEx Ground. I loaded the tractor trailer trucks but the last three months Iwas there, which ended last month, I was on light duty.
It seems to be fairly steady- not getting worse or better- in terms of pain or swelling. I cannot close the finger, proabably only halfway. The more active i am with it, the less it seems to bother me....when i wear the splint, within a couple hours the whole joint bind up and I need to saok in hot water to free up the tightness.
I stubbed my finger playing with my dog. My pip joint on my pointer finger is in slights pain when I apply pressure or bend it to a certain extent. There is no swelling, redness, or bruising. It does feels stiffer than usual but isn’t in pain if I hold it still. I’m wondering if this is something I need to get checked out or will it heal on it’s own.
