Avatar m tn Hello, I'm a 23 year old male. Since mid July 2010 I've been having some shortness of breath and dry cough with very little mucus coming out. When the mucus comes out it's clear and in small amount. Initially this problem started after I was out with a few friends smoked hookah. The hookah pipe was dirty and I remember spitting black stuff out from the pipe and then I stopped smoking. I don't smoke normally at all and even hookah once every 3 or 4 months.
Avatar n tn Sometimes double conventional doses of these non-sedating antihistamines such as Cetirizine(zyrtec), Loratadine(Claritin) and Fexofenadine may be needed to get symptom relief.Apply mild corticosteroid cream like dermacort on the rash.It should help. If the symptoms still persist then pls contact your doctor as oral steroids may be needed. If you have any respiratory difficulty, palpitation or wheezing along with, then pls contact ER immediately. It could be anaphylaxis.
Avatar n tn Double conventional doses of these non-sedating antihistamines such as Cetirizine(zyrtec), Loratadine(Claritin), Acrivastine and Fexofenadine may be needed to get symptom relief. Sedating antihistamines such as Chlorphenamine(benadryl) or Hydroxyzine are used at night to get urticaria control. Short courses of oral cortisone or steroids are taken for short periods (one to three days) to settle more severe symptoms. Application of topical steroids like dermacort is also helpful.
Avatar n tn I have a really really bad problem with my skin. Whenever I go outside the sun, or the heater, in general wherever it's hot, my skin gets extremely prickly and it has many red bumps all over my body. I've tried many allergy medicines such as HYDROXYZINE HCL, DOXEPIN, FEXOFENADINE, XYZAL, ZYRTEC, but they didn't help the breakout at all. I think I'm not allergic with anything, because I already took the blood test, and everything appeared negatively.

Avatar m tn You can find easily an over the counter over-the counter antihistamines (e.g., loratadine, desloratadine, cetirizine, fexofenadine) which can be used to help with symptoms. You may also use over the counter smoothening, antipruritic agents to get relief. Also use mild soaps and calamine lotion which helps in soothing the skin. If the symptoms persist then you may need topical steroids.
Avatar m tn Type I hypersensitivity is characterized by an allergic reaction that occurs immediately following contact with the antigen, referred to as the allergen. Atopic allergy is mediated by immunoglobulin E (IgE), antibodies which are bound to the mast cells. When allergens cross-link the IgE molecules degranulation is induced and mediators such as histamine and other vasoactive amines are released and produce the allergic reactions.
Avatar m tn Would anyone know the difference between Piriton and Fexofenadine? Which is stronger?
Avatar m tn Hi, You should continue with the antihistamine medications and review with your skin specialist about how you are doing. You should try to keep the area dry and clean. Try some powder to absorb the sweat. Use a medicated sunscreen lotion - preferably one prescribed by a skin specialist and re apply it every 2 hrs. Apply calamine lotion at the sites. Wash the sites with fresh water several times daily. Let us know if you have any doubts and keep us posted on how you are doing.
Avatar n tn Hope this helps. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn what are the best antihistamines (dust allergy) for somone with an enlarged prostate?
Avatar f tn i have googled zyrtec itch tonight and found sites full of people with the same problem (whos doctors dont believe them). supposedly the itch goes away in around two weeks. this may not be documented by healthcare professionals but there seem to be lots of people with the same problem. too many to write off as dry skin or masked allergies. this is the number 1 allergy medication and they probably dont want people to know discontinuing it can cause itching.

Avatar m tn Next day I started taking Zyrtec. Itch stopped but rash still continued to appear and disappear especially on my neck, arms, and hands. It appears mostly when I finish my shower even though I don't use hot water in shower. I did blood test days ago, I have ALT = 51 which is over the limit (46). Months ago my ALT was 26. I stopped using Zyrtec, and my doctor told me to use Atarax. However, its been a week and the rash is still the same. I am very worried about it. What shall I do?
Avatar n tn He has done quite well with Allegra for seasonal allergies, and even better with Zyrtec. Zyrtec is OTC but allegra is not. Both are well tolerated with Risperdal. Benaadryl is not good with Risperdal. My son, age 17, is zonked out when he takes both. He basically is out like a light and doesn't wake up in the morning (until about 12 hours later) the few times he has taken it. Not good at all. Claritin does not work for him either, nor anyone in my family.
Avatar n tn They cause less drowsiness and can work just as well. These medications include fexofenadine (Allegra), and cetirizine (Zyrtec). You can these treatment options with your dermatologist and get a referral done for an allergist. I hope it helps. Take care and God bless.
Avatar f tn You should take a comfortably cool bath and wear smooth-textured cotton clothing. Covering the affected area with bandages and dressings can help protect the skin and prevent scratching. You should choose mild soaps without dyes or perfumes and use a mild, unscented laundry detergent when washing clothes, towels and bedding. Please take a second opinion from a dermatologist if the symptoms persist. You may need topical and oral steroids.
Avatar n tn has zyrtec been banned,i cant find it anywhere,if it has been banned then wot was the reason?
Avatar n tn He has been on prednisone twice, has taken 50 mg. of Benedryl every 6 hours for 30 days, and has been on Zyrtec and Tagamet every night for the past two months. He also went to an allergist who did thyroid studies on him. Nothing that he has taken has worked and his hives have become increasingly worse. Over the past two days his entire body has been covered with hives, that now itch and his entire face, including his eyes, are swollen.
