Avatar n tn I have been on Coumadin for 18 years due to Lupus Anticoagulant (Antiphospholipid Syndrome) and several DVTs. In 2005 had MI with occlusion of the LAD artery and had drug stent inserted and I am still on plavix. My doc has debated when to take me off the Plavix safely....what are the recent studies about this dilemma? thanks so much!
Avatar m tn As for pregnancy, mechanical valves do greatly raise the risk of fetal problems, such as still births. The culprit is believed to be the anti-coagulant (warfarin) which crosses the placenta barrier. Trials are trying to establish if dosage could be the answer. Heparin was tried instead of warfarin but this caused the valves to have problems and valve replacement was necessary in many cases, some even fatal.
Avatar f tn I haven't tried this. I recently had a dvt. I was on warfarin for 6 months and now I've stopped it. I am still wearing the compression socks, but only 8-15 compression now... I still have symptoms of pain/tingling etc. blood flowing around in my calfs.. it got worse again after being off warfarin. I plan to go to my vascular surgeon soon to ask about this. I took a look at that and it looks very cumbersome to wear that... do you think it would be better than socks?
Avatar m tn Google Fetal Alchohol Syndrome and you will find all the answers. Yes, it is known to cause brain damage among other things.
1090423 tn?1286287650 hi , i was diagnosed with dvt three weeks ago , i was given clexane injections for 11 days and warfarin , i am only on warfarin now , no more injections my inr is 2.
Avatar f tn If I measured it and got about 6mm, I would measure it multiple times. Ask your doctor to get the cell-free fetal DNA screen. It is the gold standard of noninvasive screening. A thickened nuchal fold is an indication for the DNA screen. It is a blood draw from you and is VERY, VERY accurate. Was the baby's nasal bone present? It is also an indication to be seen by a maternal fetal medicine specialist. Ask your doctor if other ultrasound markers were seen most especially absent nasal bone.
Avatar f tn No, but they can do a blood test. I've never heard of Down's being diagnosed at the ultrasound.
Avatar f tn E., said that she had to prescribe more warfarin for me than she ever had to for any other patient in her 20 year career. She specializes in treating post-operative emboli. Every week I had my blood drawn to gauge how much my warfarin dosage should be. Every week for months it was increased. My blood just didn't seem to easily thin. My doctor was very nervous about the dosage that I finally had to take--it was so high. Is there a corelation with that and my fibro?
Avatar n tn The treatment for clots in the ventricle is warfarin. The clots usually become firm and do not embolize with time. If it is still soft clot, the warfarin will help to slowly reduce the size of it. There isn't much else that needs to be done now. I understand your concern about stroke. The longer you go on warfarin, the less likely you are to have a stroke from that source.
Avatar f tn I am pretty concerned that from all this drinking, (getting drunk probably 4 days a week each time probably about 12 drinks). Now that I know I have been doing some research on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Effect. Do you think I have anything to worry about if I stop now? Or is there still a chance my child could be born with an alcohol related birth defect?
Avatar n tn Was told that iv got a b12 defiency and that my blood results showed high risk of my baby having down syndrome. However the scan results showed my baby not having down syndrome. Has anyone else been referred to this unit and their baby been fine? If my baby was to be born with downs then id love him/her just as much as i do my other children. Just wanted to know if there was any other mummies in the same situation as me?
Avatar f tn Fetal alcohol syndrome is not worth the risk of a glass of wine in my eyes, but everyone has their own opinion on this touchy subject. The doc can't tell you if baby has fetal alcohol syndrome until you give birth.... but some people say a glass of red wine is good for your heart so idk. Personal preference I guess ... but baby moving a lot isn't something to be concerned with. One thing to thinkabout ...
Avatar m tn 1. 1 miscarriage in the 2nd month of pregnancy 2. 1 infant death: Non Immune Hydrops, Fetal Ascites (detected at 7th month) Born preterm at AIIMS: 34th week Required 2 surgeries for Intestinal Obstruction at AIIMS, died at 3 months Investigation revealed : Chromosomes normal (Karyotyping : normal), Cause of Fetal Ascites was not found. TORCH & Parvo virus : negative, echo : normal 3.
Avatar f tn m sure there was a clot there also. I was on warfarin for 6 months and I went off it a month ago as the left leg showed to be dissolved and free of the clot. As I went off warfarin the symptoms of tingling/pain, muscle spasm and blood flowing around in my calfs and pooling in my feet worsened. I have been wearing compression hose the whole time and I was told to go to a lighter compression now. the pain is much improved from when I first had the dvt but it is still not gone.
Avatar f tn I am 33 years old and 13.5 weeks pregnant with our first child. I received a call from the doctor the other day stating I have screened positive for Trisomy 18 or Edward's syndrome. I am suppose to be scheduled for further testing in the weeks to come. How many of you have been in this situation and how many were screened with a false positive? I am terrified at the moment, especially since Edward's syndrome is a death sentence for our baby.
Avatar f tn In July my cardiologist said I have early signs of sick sinus syndrome. I have a low resting heart rate of 50, drops to mid to high 30's at times during night, otherwise in 40's during night. In October I had an event monitor for a month. Dr. said it shows I have SVT/AFIB and prescribed Propafanone. After reviewing this drug and all the other similar ones, I decided not to take it. I'm taking 325 mg of aspirin a day.
Avatar n tn I have hypothyroid for 4 years and on synthroid 75 mcg and my thyroid has been normal . This is my first pregnancy . my RE monitors my blood and fetal well being .blood test for estrogen progesterone has been normal , fetal heartbeat has always been 180 (in 10 weeks ) , 174 bmp (11 weeks) ,176 (12 weeks) .Should i be alarmed ? i learnt it should be b/w 160 -170 bmp and higher beat directs towards down syndrome. . what would be your advise in my case.? Thanks.
Avatar m tn Hi, welcome to the forum, The causes for Restless leg syndrome are peripheral neuropathies, vitamin and minerals deficiencies, lumbosacral radiculopathy, spinal stenosis, excess caffeine intake, obesity, anemia, smoking, hypoglycemia, and hypothyroidism. You should to try exercise regularly and reduce caffeine, alcohol and tobacco use. Do stretching, pacing, walking, or jogging. Apply heat or cold to your legs and arms.
Avatar n tn However, they require lifelong anticoagulation with medications such as warfarin, so that blood clots don’t form on the valve. Warfarin can cause major birth defects for unborn fetuses, and thus becomes more problematic for use during childbearing. However, with adequate planning, it can be done by switching to routine heparin injection.
1542096 tn?1293162924 Hi, restless leg syndrome (RLS) can be treated by underlying illness, if known. For example, a search for iron deficiency by blood testing to reveal underlying iron deficiency anemia by supplying iron. Elimination of caffeine, smoking and alcohol can be very helpful. Getting better sleep and exercise can help some persons affected by restless legs. Drugs include carbidopa-levodopa, opioids , tramadol for intermittent symptoms, carbamazepine, clonazepam, diazepam, triazolam, and clonidine.
Avatar f tn 1:143 chance for down syndrome. NT is 1.6 which is normal but my blood came back abnormal. I have a low Pappa-A.I'm 27 years old and terrified. I'm thinking of doing the amnio. Is anyone else going through this?
Avatar f tn You might see an endocrinologist if you have additional symptoms that may point to Cushing's syndrome or hypothyroidism (both can have the symptom of skin that bruises easily). You might also see your primary care physician to check your prothrombin (clotting) time.
Avatar f tn It is currently not recommended that any alcohol be taken in while pregnant since FAS (fetal alcohol syndrome) is not completely understood on when and how it all happens.
Avatar f tn Given that yesterday he said to not take the warfarin he was changing me from the genertic warfarin and putting me on the brand name of the med coumadin. Said some folks do not tolerate warfarin well but do well on coumadin and i am to start the coumadin today. I would be lying if i didn't say i am a bit gunshy at this point. This med has made me absolutely miserable and today is my 43rd bday...
