t any osteoporous Femara causes swelling and bone pain I switch to Arimidex after being off Femara for 2 weeks and am not having the pain. Please look in to Femara side effects and possible changeing to another drug. I even was in physical therapy for two months because I thought it was me but no it was the drug..

It is impossible to have side effects from a drug with a 2 day half life 1 1/2 years after stopping use. It is either caused by another condition or you are imagining it. Don't post BS on this website when women are already worried and looking for answers.

I don't know about Femara but I have gained weight on Tamoxifen. I get to stop taking it next month and I can't wait to see if I lose some of this weight.

First, there are case reports of endometriosis being treated successfully by aromatase inhibitors, which is the class of drug femara is from. Second, femara results in a thicker, better looking endometrium, than clomid. On the other hand, femara is more likely to result in one egg being released, rather than multiple. I don't know of any info regarding clomid making endometriosis coming back more quickly. Why have you been prescribed femara?

I was on tamoxifen for 5 years and have been on femara for 3. The back pain and joint pain has gotten horrible. I can no longer stand up straight or walk very far. I am 64 and afraid I will no longer be able to walk soon. I stopped femara 4 days ago. I wonder if any else has had this problem with the very severe joint pain, and if it will go away any time soon. The pain and quality of my life is so bad that I am taking the chance.

and got pregnant on that (+ follistim) and IUI , it was our third round of femara.. like everyone said, the nice thing about femara is the side effects are few and tolerable, it doens't thin your lining (which actually makes miscarriage rates lower with femara) and it actually improved my CM! i have endo and pcos as well, and it can actually be used as an endo suppressive drug, so thats why we choose it initially! good luck!

I also asked my doc if at the end of the months treatment on Femara if I should have an ultrasound before going back on the drug (if pregnancy is unsuccessful) and he said a home pregnancy test would be sufficient. I am worried about the possibility of birth defects...any info anyone out there could give me would be very much appreciated. I don't know where else to go. I want to trust my doctor, but would rather be safe than sorry, too.

I took femara after trying clomid unsuccessfully. I conceived on my second cycle of femara. I also had to have a trigger shot since I wasn't ovulating on my own (so you may want to look into that). I also had IUI. Good luck to you!

I went off all meds in Jan. Since mid Feb to mid Apr my markers went to 180. I started Femara in early Apr. After one month, marker went down to 170. About the same time I started Femara, I have constant sever pain in my right rib area and now pain in my lower right skull. Bone scan was negative. My doctor told me to take all 10 pills on day 3 of my cycle. Has anyone else taken this drug in that dosage? From what I have been reading, others don't take them all at once.

Hi there. This side effect is really not so common with femara and with similar drugs like arimidex. However, this do happen and with the proximity of the symptoms to the intake of the drug, you can't help but point this side effects on the drug (especially if the symptoms are relieved upon drug withdrawal).

I may be starting Femara (letrizole) next cycle and want to get some feedback. This may be followed by timed intercourse and/or IUI. My RE says Femara has less side effects and will be out of my blood before I conceive. I truly appreciate any comments.

My Dr put me on Femara for the 3-7 day of AF . Was wondering if anyone has taken this drug and how long did it take to get pregnant?

I've also never take clomid....just Femara and I've gotten pregnant 2ce from taking Femara! Some Dr's don't like to prescribe it (very few) but my Dr wouldn't even think of putting me on clomid.....He believes that Femara is much better....based on my results I have to agree! The CT scan showed that the swollen lymph nodes have now shrunk back to normal, the masses in her pelvis have gone and the only thing thats left is a small spot in her liver which they are not sure whether its cancerous or a scar left from the cancer. They have given mum a hormone tablet called femara to take for the rest of her life which they have said is an anti cancer drug and will kill any cancer cells. Has anyone had this? I am pleased that the chemo has worked.

estrogen level is low (although it really is not) and causes a cascade of events that lead to ovulation. Femara is not a new drug...it is actually a breast cancer drug and they discovered it could be used for fertility because many of these breast cancer patients were getting pregnant. Femara acts in a different way than clomid. It actually inhibits an enzyme that makes the real estrogen in your body.

I've just begun my first cycle on Femara and ovulated on Day 4 of my cycle. Is this typical? I would normally ovulate on Day 10-12 in a 27-28 day cycle. Taking100mg right now. I've used clomid multiple times over the last five years, ovulated ONCE! Switched to femara and ovulated twice. I had clomid sitting around so that's why I'm using it right now.

I know the importance of the drug but am really having a hard time. I have tried altering the time I take the drug and nsaids and still not happy at all.

I had asked my doc the same question, except I'm not quite there yet. His opinion, that 10 years on some preventative medication was much better than only 5 years. So, if I go into menopause it'll be femara or related drug. If I'm still premenopause after 5 yrs Tamoxifen, it'll be Tamox until menopause. And the other difference is I was stage 3...so that may have some play in your doc's answer. What side effects are you experiencing?

Have asked before but want to hear of any positive stories using letrozole(femara) to help with ovulation, this drug is primarily a drug used to help with breast cancer and is still in research stage for fertility problems, my dr is talking with other gp's because is not happy to prescribe it to me.

You should keep in mind however that you MUST weigh the side effects against the positive effect of taking the drug. Often you can be switched to another drug with similar benefits and lessen the side effects. All the drugs in this class can produce the same untoward effects but not all persons will experience all of them OR to the same degree. NEVER discontinue any drug until you have discussed it with your team of Dr.s Regards....
