Avatar f tn I find it very curious that you have the job you do with the severe phobia of HIV (which, btw, is a very real affliction that many people suffer from...the phobia that is). Which started 1st? The phobia? Or your job? Did you start to fear HIV AFTER getting into your profession, or was the fear there prior? I think that therapy is definitely in order...even if you would decide to pursure another profession....
944787 tn?1287084773 Hey, wow you seem to be the first person i have come across who has a silmiar illness as i do! I guess since i was little i have suffered from social phobia, always withdrawn and quiet. When i was 19 i had a severe breakdown and developed panic attacks and depression which made me both agoraphobic and severely socially phobic. Although i know exactly why i fear people, i have had more than my fair share of abuse both from mum, the people who brought me up and boyfriends.
1222635 tn?1366396286 I fear that floors are not strong enough to hold the weight of furniture and people. I fear that cupboards cannot hold the weight of dishes. I fear that furniture can't hold the weight of people. I will not take a bath (only showers) because in my mind I calculate the weight of the water plus a body. I, too, have suggested a house on a slab instead of over a basement. I rarely have over more than a couple because I cannot enjoy an evening if we have multiple people in our living room.
17213106 tn?1456525991 ve personally taken all three and never suffered any side effects at all, and I managed health foods stores for 18 years and never heard of anyone reporting any side effects. Manukka honey is just another form of honey -- bees pollinating a particular plant that happens to produce a unique antibiotic other honeys don't have. DGL is just a form of common licorice, with the part taken out responsible for most of the side effects commonly reported from licorice (mostly high blood pressure).
Avatar f tn Fear of heights in all its forms is, I believe, the 2d most common phobia (the first is fear of speaking in public, officially, but I'm guessing more people confront heights than the need to speak in public so I'm guessing heights might be the most common fear). I have this phobia, but didn't have it until I got a full-blown anxiety disorder. If this is your only phobia, good; if you have several and are anxious about a lot of things, harder.
Avatar f tn Exactly, I have an extreme phobia for HIV. At the same time, I cannot even resist myself from having sex. But I never have penetrative sex only handjob and insertive oral. Thanks for your answer.
Avatar f tn You are both suffering from a very common phobia. Fear of the dark goes back to the dawn of man and since that time, millions of people have fought it all there lives. Please do not berate yourselves for this phobia or think you are silly for being afraid of the dark at your age. Our phobias are ours to own and suffer with as long as we do nothing about them. Since both of you have stated that your phobia is now interfering with your lives, it's time to take the bull by the horns!
Avatar f tn Here is how you get HIV, the ONLY way you'd get HIV: if you have unprotected penetrative vaginal or anal sex or sharing of drug needles. Hiv is inactivated by air and saliva. Every time you have a fear of HIV, remember that. It should alleviate the worry. If you didn't do these things, you aren't going to get HIV.
Avatar n tn My question is, is it possible that if he re used the box on me that he had used on one of the positive people could he have given me hiv. Does the needle have to be a hollow needle or can one of these little finger ***** needles pass it on and since the person before me did show positive would the small drops of blood that would have his positive blood mixed in make my test positive. Has anyone ever caught hiv from a finger *****? Please help.
Avatar n tn My main objective is to give you some insight into your chronic phobia of the dark. The fear of the dark is a very valid phobia to begin with and could branch into many other more specific phobias, such as nyctophobia, the fear of the darkness and the main one I wish to talk to you about now. Nyctophobia is any fear of darkness and it does not have to be chronic. It is usually caused by a magnification of the brain's natural perception of what could happen in a dark environment.

Avatar n tn First of all, I absolutely LOVE your username! You MUST get a picture to go with it! JS has given you the only advice there is, and as usual, it IS the best. I'm rather suprised I don't have this same phobia as my older brother use to pee on me when we were kids! He sure got a lot of laughs out of it......at least until I whacked "it" with a stick and then he didn't think it was so funny anymore! When you wrote that anything that is wet, you assume it's urine.........
Avatar n tn i have a phobia of hiv/aids which i think has been brought on by OCD because i never used 2 be scared of it, im in constant fear of blood and people throwing it at me on the street and also people always having blood on them. i know this all sounds really stupid but i just cant help it. it used to be finding plasters and needles everywhere but that stopped and now this has started. so if anyone can help me it would really be much appriciated.
Avatar f tn I'm 33 yrs.old as I sit in my room and weigh the pros and cons of sending my daughter to daycare because her classmate was throwing up when I picked her up yesterday! Of course I was immediately feeling uneasy because of it and took meds last night to not throw up! I've talked to a therapist about it& it's done no good. This has been with me my ENTIRE Life! As a 6yr.old I sat outside my house for hours because a family member had a virus.
Avatar f tn What we can talk about here is that your logical brain is being overruled by your anxiety. Health anxiety is real. The fear you have, the symptoms of anxiety you have which could be a panic feeling, a burning chest, non stop ruminating all could be anxiety related. A therapist could be very beneficial to give you tools to reframe your thinking. To get to a point where you can use coping tools.
Avatar f tn How can I get over a phobia. I have a very weird phobia, i always have the fear of some bug or creature flying in my ear. I never wear my hair up outside and I try to have my hair down inside too if i can. Even when i am sleeping i hate to have my ears not covered. What should i do?
Avatar n tn I have had a toothache/facepain for over two weeks, I know I need to go and see a dentist but I have a great fear of going because of cetain circumstances that happened while going to the dentist as a child. I have been taking advil for the pain and most times it is tolerable but now it seems to be getting worse as it is keeping me awake at night.
Avatar m tn i am 100 percent vegan exercise 2 hr each day and do meditation daily besides a lobotomy what else can I do to relieve my fear of blood pressure reading from a dr? http://youtu.
Avatar n tn You have a phobia. You're like people who are afraid to fly or drive on the freeway. If this is your only phobia and you don't have lots of things that you respond to with this level of anxiety, you should be able to deal with it without a huge amount of trouble by getting therapy. You might even talk yourself out of it by getting some books on sexual health and learning how this stuff actually works and how to protect yourself, which might demystify this fear you have.
Avatar f tn And your fear of it going through the flor and contaminating your bed. Not possible. You need to go ahead and realize that this is a serious issue if you are irrational and having a phobia. Do you see a psychologist? If not, please do. This is treatable. Exposure therapy is the best for this type of thing. ERP therapy is what it is called and it is the gold standard. Medication helps too. Are there other things you have irrational fear about?
Avatar f tn Oh. I read the title of the post. Maybe I saw the word phobia and then used it as essentially that was what the poster was implying. Sorry as nothing was intentionally posted to disagree. My eye sight is way too bad to use my phone for this. I have to enlarge and basically should probably wait until I am at my PC to be more 'PC'. Again just wanted to help the poster but didn't"t mean to step on toes.
Avatar n tn I think your post was totally relevant and important for lots and lots of people who feel the same fear. So , just wanted to say thanks.

Avatar m tn Peace Greenlydia Exposure therapy for anxiety Anxiety isn’t a pleasant sensation, so it’s only natural to avoid it if you can. One of the ways that people do this is by steering clear of the situations that make them anxious. If you have a fear of heights, you might drive three hours out of your way to avoid crossing a tall bridge. Or if the prospect of public speaking leaves your stomach in knots, you might skip your best friend’s wedding in order to avoid giving a toast.
2183887 tn?1338721728 I understand, although I don't fear crowded spaces, or the toilet. I am absolutely terrified of heights and bees. I cant stand being to high off the ground or i start to hyperventilate. And when there's a bee near, I either run away screaming or start to shake with fear. But what I do is try to convince myself that I'm not going to die, an I try to regulate my breathing. That's what I suggest to you. Better yet, you should go see your doctor, and see what they have to say.
