Having recently being diagnosed with underactive thyroid I have spent ages reading loads of information about treatments etc. There seem to be a lot of people implying that synthetic thyroxine is no good, but surely if as many as 1 in 50 women suffer from hypothyroidism, loads of people must be OK on it. I find it very worrying to read that the treatment I have put on may not work at all.
I've been taking Synthroid for many years. Two months ago when I went to pick up my prescription the pharmacy asked, "is synthetic OK?" and I said "I guess so." Just this weekend I realized that that might be the cause of my increasing tiredness and geneal malaise -- is this possible?
Anyone trying to kick a synthetic marijuana habit? I started smoking it as soon as it came out and did so regulary. it has been about 3 years.. i would smoke it all day n even get up throughout the night to smoke.. i quit 3 days ago. THE WITHDRAWAL IS HELL. People think this stuff is safe but its not.. its highly addictive and my withdrawals sound like you guys' from meth and benzos n etc.. its crazy.. anxiety no sleep can't eat..
i may have to have my thyroid removed. which is better armour or one of the synthetic hormones? any risks with either?
There are other ways to treat nausea. Smoking 'spice' is more dangerous than smoking pot. I don't recommend either one. But 'spice' has chemicals in it that are AWFUL for your body, and can cause all sorts of negative effects like nausea. Please look into another way to treat this without the 'spice'. Your doctor can help.
My husband was given synthetic pain medication for surgery a year ago. After a couple of days he couldn't go to sleep because his automatic breathing mechansim wold turn off. He had to walk for hours just to make himself keep breathing. He was told he is totally unable to take any kind of synthetic drugs for that reason. Our problem is that most doctors don't know what is a synthetic drug. Pharmacies don't know either.
I am allergic to the synthetic thread (clear see-thru) bras are made with. Does any company make bras with cotton thread. Break out in rash on all seams where thread is exposed.
The only synthetic T3, T4 product is Liotrix, sold under the brand name Thyrolar. If the drug is synthetic, then it is available via a regular, non-compounding pharmacy. As far as I know, it is not timed-release but has a set amount of T4 and T3. This can be a disadvantage compared to taking T3 and T4 separately since you can't adjust the dose of either.
All the synthetic thyroid hormone replacement meds are called levothyroxine. From there it breaks down into:
(1.) Generic (non-brand) levothyroxines.
(2.) Brand named levothyroxines. Examples of brand named levothyroxines would be Synthroid and Levoxyl.

Getting control on the right-for-you medication is not easy. I have beed T2D since 2007 and have been on a number of different Meds, some of which seemed to work but then longer term had problems. You must keep you chin up and work with your dr. to find the best contol for you.

Some people do better on NDT while others better on dual synthetic. Both my wife and daughter both do better on dual synthetic. Even when adding in T4 synthetic to get their FT4 levels up. But each person is different.
You say you feel "OK". What does that mean? Do you still feel or have Hypo symptoms? What is your latest lab levels and describe lingering symptoms you may have.

I am new to thyroid problems, and it looks like I will be having to have my thyroid removed. I am just wondering if after it is removed, can you take Armour instead of the synthetic drugs that are prescribed?
