Common Questions and Answers about Exenatide insulin

Avatar m tn The state of the art approach for all newly diagnosed type 2 people (you can look up joslin diabetes centre), is to start them on metformin to reduce the insulin resistance, and then to give them insulin. If you are early enough in the diagnosis, you will need only low doses of insulin to get excellent blood sugar. This is far safer and more effective than multi-oral therapy.
519736 tn?1253986826 thanx for your quick reply. I did have black coffee right before the test. I have hypothyroidism. It was a new Endo I saw last June that ordered the blood work. He did not inform me of the insulin of 109 until August. And he told me I was "becoming insulin resistant". My glucose was normal. I'm confused. Are insulin and blood sugar the same thing?
Avatar f tn He has been covered for ALL his supplies, including insulin, through Medicaid, up until he is now at the age of 21-1/2 years old. He works for a minimum wage job and rents with his sibling. My question is, where does one go to get help getting their insulin for low cost? There is no way he can afford over $500 a month for his insulin and pump supplies.
Avatar n tn The currently accepted treatment of choice is a basal (long-acting) insulin like Lantus once or twice a day and a bolus or rapid acting insulin before meals. A fixed dose of bolus like you describe is not as good as developing a carb ratio. You need to take the correct insulin dose each meal to cover what you eat (unless you want to eat the same thing every meal!).
Avatar f tn I am 30 years old and I have had diabetes sense I was 5 years old and have recently moved to a new state and can not get insurance until July 1. I will currently need more insulin and I was wondering if there is any help with me having to purchase this on my own considering it is very expensive I had my doctor that I had before moving wirght me a perscription but I was just wondering if there was any help out there that I won't have to wait 45 days or find a doctor here first ?
Avatar n tn right now i can't afford my insulin i have not taken any in 2 days and won't be able to get any for another 2-3 days what can i do in the meantime
Avatar n tn I would like to purchase a second hand insulin Cozmo insulin pump for my daughter. Where can I find one?
Avatar f tn Inside the pen, where the insulin is contained I found a silver object. I did not inject myself, but would like to know who I could talk to about product liability and quality control. I still have the container even though the pharmacy company wants it back.
Avatar f tn IR or insulin resistance is a sign of type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes. I am assuming you are referring to either the A1C or fasting blood glucose levels. The first thing of course is a change in life style. This does not mean you have to stop eating everything but to be more judicious in your eating habits. In addition, regular exercise is paramount in reducing those :numbers". Talk this over with your physician and get started on these changes.
Avatar n tn I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and along with that comes Insulin Resistance. Lately I have been really thirsty, my feet and fingers go numb, I have weird bruising and am always tired. My fasting glucose was 118. I crave sugar and after I eat sugar I usually get a migraine and my stomach feels like a huge balloon and I feel quite nauseous. I am 22 years old, weigh 197lbs, am 5'6", I get a good amount of exercise but it is really hard to lose weight with PCOS.
Avatar n tn Hi, my 17 yo son has been a diabetic since age 12. He got an insulin pump 2 years and seemed pleased with it. However, last month I discovered he was not wearing his pump. He had gone back to giving himself shots of insulin. Has anyone else experienced this? And if so, can you help me to understand why he would want to go back to taking shots? He has had a very difficult time adjusting to his diabetes. His BS runs high often that is when he tests. I am at my wits end!
Avatar n tn The inhaler itself expands to form a chamber that fills up with the vaporized insulin when you puncture the blister. There is still one shot a day of long lasting insulin (my daughter was on lantus), but it sure beats the 6-7 shots a day of fast acting insulin that she was on prior to getting the insulin pump that she has now. It's not a cure, but it sure is an improvement!
Avatar n tn Elli Lilly is discontinuing the production of animal insulin. I have a friend who cannot take human or synthetic insulin, what are her options?
Avatar n tn My daughter was put on insulin at 3 for her diabetes.... we have had trouble keeping her levels stable... she has had some kidney problems but they have run several tests and think we are thru with that... My question is has anyone used an insulin pump on a 6 year old? Right now she is on 4 shots a day and takes 2 of them while at school...it is of course embarrassing to her and other kids make fun of her...
Avatar f tn Hello, Sherry. I'm so glad that you are taking the opportunity to learn as much as you can about how to manage diabetes, that's not something that everyone in your position would do. The first step to learn more is to contact her nurse practioner to get hooked up with a dietician, and in particular one that specializes in diabetes. It is important to understand nutrition and how it relates to controlling blood sugars.
Avatar n tn 1 yesterday over the last 3 years. We have always had his active insulin at 2 hours and it works for him. We took him to Barbara Davis yesterday in Denver and we were told to change his active insulin to 4 hours. This seems like a drastic change, and we don't like to make big changes like this. We would like to test his active insulin to find out how many hours it really is for him. No one can really tell us how to test active insulin for him on a pump.
443862 tn?1237999439 45 am insulin still working???
Avatar n tn Each time I did draw blood as I removed the needle but the doctor and diabetic educator insist that I cannot hit a vein and even if I went into a vessel it would not cause the insulin to react so quickly. Meantime, for each of these episodes I had to drink a minimun of 4-8 juice boxes and granola bars just to stabilize my sugar which took a few hours. I am not a fan of the Lantus and not all individuals react the same to medications.
Avatar f tn Omg.. I'm freaked out by the fact that I now have to give myself shots of insulin in my stomach 3 times a day! by no means am I afraid of needles just never stuck myself purposely.. I'm 35 weeks and 2 days delivering in about 3 weeks, so I dont have long but how do I keep fr times om getting depressed or letting this get to me? Pricking my fingers 4 times for glucose has already taken a toll on me as it is..
Avatar m tn In type 2 diabetes, the body does not respond properly to insulin, a condition known as insulin resistance. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that regulates how the body converts sugar (glucose) into energy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In view of the multiple processes involved in causing NASH, it may well be that many different classes of medications, as well as weight loss, will have beneficial effects.
Avatar n tn Yes,I have a friend of mine that has been a diabetic since he was 8 years old,he is now 48.My question to you is have you ever heard of anyone being addicted to the insulin. Its not the insulin itself but the effects of what your body goes through when your sugar is almost bottomed out.I have seen him do this aleast 50 or more times in the past 3 years.I can tell when his blood sugar level starts dropping.
Avatar m tn I asked my doctor about it and he said that my nonfasting serum insulin was normal. I requested the 2hr GTT w/insulin check. He felt it was a waste of my time to get this test, but gave me the order to get it done anyway. I did that today. What would indicate insulin resistance with this test? I am considering switching doctors because I am not sure if the doc I am seeing is right for me. Thanks for your help. Most recent labs: November (while on .
