Avatar n tn Because excess heat can activate Lantus post injection, patients are being warned against things such as saunas and hot tubs due to the possibility of severe hypoglycemia. But I've also seen 'hot showers' included as well. I've been wondering - how hot is 'hot'? In the winter I'm always freezing, and a hot shower was great before bed. I've been hesitant to enjoy such a pleasure since starting Lantus though.
Avatar f tn She complained of polidypsia, dry mouth, weight loss. Insulinotherapy was initiated with glargine, ten units at bedtime (glycemic value before aministration was 169) after reiceiving 6 units of aspart imediately (7 pm). Next day a fasting value of 140 mg/dl. Bedtime value (2 hours postprandial ) 269. After 10 U glargine, fasting value 120 mg/dl. Glycemic variation are very important and depend on the thyroid status. What is your opnion?
Avatar n tn After giving birth, the gestational diabetes took a respite for 6 months and then my sugars shot up and I lost 30 pounds hoping to avoid insulin but I ended up on insulin anyway. I kept off those 30 pounds and was at an average weight until I started Lantus and now I gained back all that weight. While doctors will tell you it's not the insulin as they don't want you to stop taking it, I do believe some insulins (like any medication) have side effects.
Avatar f tn as well im type1 diabetic and my bloodsugers are really up and down all the time and i take a split dose of lantus. my suger will drop and stay down all day or for hours!
Avatar n tn I am curious as why you do not mention that Glargine(lantus) does NOT have a license for twice daily usage ,levemir has a licensce for OD and BD and has weight benefits for type 2 patients???? or are you heavily sponsored/involved with the manufactureres of glargine? I am interested.
Avatar n tn She ate one small piece of pizza, small piece of cake and 1/4 cup of ice cream and ran around playing hard for 5 hours. Before dinner(6:00 p.m.) 234 bg; had 7 units of novolog; at 10:00 p.m. reading was 231; we did not give insulin because we thought it might be adrenaline. At 1:00 a.m. the bg was 298; gave 2 units of novolog. At 7:00 a.m. bg was at 266.
726890 tn?1231163286 I have recently been commenced on lantus 30 units at night but have found that i am awake all night with severe chest pain and palpatations. Also I experience incredible burning when injecting myself as well as numbness around my lips, general fatigue and muscle soreness, especially in the legs. My GP states this is normal and will eventually pass. As these symptoms have been going on for nearly 3 months should I change my GP and the Endo who prescribed "the insulin from hell".
Avatar f tn Examples are insulin zinc suspension, protamine zinc insulin, and the insulin analogues insulin glargine and insulin detemir. The latter two insulins are now the most widely used long-acting insulins. * Biphasic insulins: mixtures of short-acting and intermediate-acting insulins in different proportions, such as 30/70, 50/50. Examples are NovoMix 30, Humulin M3, Insuman comb and Humalog Mix25.
Avatar m tn - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exenatide. Getting control on the right-for-you medication is not easy. I have beed T2D since 2007 and have been on a number of different Meds, some of which seemed to work but then longer term had problems. You must keep you chin up and work with your dr. to find the best contol for you. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Steve, here is what I know about insulins and insulin pumps. Please consult your doctor for more details: Insulins: Novolog (aspart),onset 5-10 mins, peak 1-3 hrs, duration 3-5 hrs Humalog (lispro), onset <15 mins, peak .5-1.5 hrs, duration 2-4 Regular, onset .
Avatar m tn The doctor thinks it is too high and gave Recombinant Insulin Glargine Injection and my mother does 15 unit injection every night. But blood sugar is still like 7.3~8.3 mmol/L before meal and 9-10 mmol/L after meal. Is this often to see among diabetes type 2 patients? Can some one give me any advice about how to improve my mother's condition? Sincerely thanks.
915277 tn?1252573113 Anyone out there on Lantus, and have you heard about this and will you stop using Lantus due to this news?? What bothers me about this news is that the study seems a bit shaky...but, I also feel, where there is smoke, can fire be far behind?? I, myself, am thinking of changing to Levemir, at least until the experts decide what to do. Only because, I have enough health problems, if I can save myself some anguish, I think I will...What's your take on this issue??
Avatar m tn 9, higher than usual, but taken after holidays and post holiday eating. Very little acitivity since winter, bad lungs, joints, gout, heart, etc. Doctor says he needs to change to Lantus insulin. Should we see endocrinologist for another opinion? Couldn't we try other oral meds first and dietary changes? Also triglycerides very high, 600s, for a while now. Chronic renal disease, but stable, Any ideas or recs.? Is it better to go insulin route?
233382 tn?1193658141 Today, we were walking together and I could witness it for the first time. He was walking funny and almost stumbling. We tested him and he was at 2.7, very low. I don't know what's happening and I am very affraid and stressed, probably not as much as my son is. What could it be? I hope its only muscular and fatigue and not anything else... :( Any ideas, experiences, ...
Avatar f tn I have been diabetic for ten years now and have been taking lantus and humalog this whole time. Well a new doctor Im seeing took me off lantus due to the fact that it could cause my twins to become insulin resistant. She has me taking more of the humalog but it doesn't seem to be helping me and now i have a harder time controlling my sugar where before i kept it pretty well controlled. Should i get a second opinion or does anyone have suggestions?
Avatar n tn After dinner, blood glucose level will again shoot up to 10-12mmol (2 hours after meal) and will come down to 4-5mmol at 3am and then shot up again to 12-15mmol at 8am in the morning (fasting). I am not sure what actually happens and this has been going on for sometime probably a year or so even before switching to Lantus. Any help is appreciated.
Avatar f tn He has to be under 200 in order to drive, so he has really been eating correctly this week and checking and checking maybe double dosing medications. His level bounces up and down 50 points within 10 minutes of the last checking. Is it normal to go up and down so rapidly? We are using 2 checkers to make sure there wasnt a malfunction. It has went from 268 after fasting all night to 183 and has continued going up today. How long does it take the medicine to actually kick in?
Avatar n tn My 16 year old son has had high hbA1c (14 in Nov., 11 in Feb.), and high blood pressure. He is not overweight (105 lbs). He has 1 or 2 high blood sugar readings a month. Nothing over 300. His Dr. is having a difficult time with this. She keeps sending him for blood tests, and has not been able to tell me what might be going on. Any ideas?
Avatar n tn My doctor just changed me to a new insulin - Glargine (Lantus) and I am sleeping now. They say that Melatonin helps but it usually only gets you to sleep and then you are free to wake up 4 hours later. If you are really suffering from sleep deprivation, try getting up at same time each day no matter what time you go to bed. When you get exhausted, you will sleep and you may start to correct the cycle.
Avatar m tn I learned everything about home testing from the people experienced with diabetic kitties on this site. Just type in www.felinediabetesd.com and look for Lantus (Glargine) links. If you could check around and ask for a Vet who is experienced with home testing, it would be better. Most Vets for some reason don't encourage home testing, but without it is like testing blind. Sorry for typos, as I'm in a rush. Lots of luck and I'll check back. www.felinediabetes.
Avatar m tn I saw a recent thread about Lantis in a pen and I would like to ask if anyone else shares my concern about this or the overall safty of Lantis. I have been a diabetic 40 years (Type 1), and started on Lantis about a year ago, replacing NPH for my basal insulin (I also take Humalog with a pen). I injected Lantis with a syringe, and as I never had a problem with NPH when it sometimes entered a vessel, I did not draw back before injecting.
Avatar n tn I have type 2 diabetes, and take metformin, gabapentin, and simvastatin How often should i be testing my blood glucose? This discussion is related to upper leg pain and lower back pain.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the kind words and encouragment. It has been a crazy ride. From the days in ICU where it looked like this wonderful, healthy liver just wasn't going to work and I was sure I wasn't going to make it to the way I feel today. I feel much better than I did pre-transplant and I feel better with each passing day. It is an amazing and wonderful feeling. My ALT and AST are correcting toward normal and are a fraction of what they were 6 months ago.
Avatar m tn Yes it's true - I'm really reaching some kind of edge again. even considered checking out this retreat but the cost was pro-hib-itive. Plus I don't really 100% believe their total philosophy, and I've already dealt with so much of what they talk about. I really do think my problems are bigger than just needing to find a life lesson, and "doing happy" etc. Lastly, I've given in - I'm sick of sleeping my life away so I've started taking....pseudoephidrine...
