Avatar m tn Can anyone tell me if peri spinal etanercept works ? I have had four back surgeries since 2000. The last two were for decompression of the L-4, L-5 and S-1 nerve roots. My third surgery was performed in January 2011 and the last one in July 2012. I am still having pain around my right hip, left calf , left ankle and left foot. MRI and CT Myloegram do not show anything. Help !
Avatar m tn Etanercept Study Group. Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Internal Medicine, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, USA. ***@**** BACKGROUND/AIMS: Current therapies for patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) do not achieve sustained viral clearance in most patients, and are associated with severe toxic effects. Our aim was to investigate the efficacy and safety of etanercept as adjuvant to interferon and ribavirin in treatment-naive patients with HCV.
Avatar n tn Can a perispinal etanercept injection help heal severe pain linked to the piriformous muscle?
Avatar m tn The standard therapy options include intravenous immunoglobulin and plasmapharesis, corticosteroids, azathioprine, cyclophosphamide, etanercept, mycophenolate mofetil, interferon alpha 2a and tacrolimus. Current ones are interferon beta 1a, rituximab, and high dose cyclophosphamide. Your neurologist needs to apprise you of the long-term side effects since prolonged therapy are required. Botox shots are not known to be used in therapy.
Avatar f tn Though non steroidal anti-inflammatory agents (NSAID) and steroids are the gold standard of treatment, more emphasis should be laid on physical and occupational therapy, rest, heat pads and use of assistive devices for walking. Biological response modifiers like etanercept, leflunomide (used less often), adalimumab, or infliximab can be added in consultation with doctor.
Avatar f tn Corticosteroid therapy or medications to suppress the immune system may also be prescribed. Drugs called TNF-inhibitors (etanercept, adalimumab, infliximab), which block an inflammatory protein, have been shown to improve the symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis. I'm going to refer your post to the Hysterectomy Forum, there is a wonderful CL there who will be able to tell you if there is something related to that surgery that could be causing these issues.
Avatar m tn Reactivation occurred in 9 (5%) cases, including 1 patient who died due to liver failure. In summary, anti-TNF agents caused significant liver damage in HBsAg-positive patients, including elevated alanine transferaminase (ALT) levels in 42% (indicating liver cell injury or death), reappearance of HBV-DNA in 39%, and death from liver failure in 5%. The rate of reactivation in people with resolved HBV infections was 7-fold lower than in HBsAg-positive patients.
Avatar f tn Which is why so many of the biologic drugs used for those conditions, such as adalimumab (Humira), etanercept (Enbrel), and infliximab (Remicade) show promise for HS sufferers." *** Excerpts from "Putting Hidradenitis Suppurativa Into Remission".... "I decided to ask Loren Cordain about HS when I interviewed him at the AHS last summer. He mentioned that he thought HS might have an autoimmune component but other than that, he didn’t have any information.
Avatar m tn The doc I see has recommended cervical epidurals, I've had them in my back (3 different sets of 3 epidurals) I tried oral steroids first for a herniation at L3 also( I have all this going on at once). They may recommend physical therapy as well. Those are usually the first plans of treatment before looking into surgery. It's terrible to be in constant pain. I hope you find some relief soon.
Avatar f tn Okay so I had a dr appt today and my dr wants me to make an appt with a surgery consultant to have my gallbladder removed. Has anyone had this done while pregnant or get induced early to perform surgery?
Avatar n tn Hi , I'm new here. Juat wondering how many people haven't had surgery and don't want to. Anyone live a pretty normal life without surgery?

Avatar m tn I have had my 5th wrist surgery. I now have a full fusion. It is so hard to move forward in life now. I joined the marines back in 2001. I lost many friends over seas and like most of us i wonder why them and not me?! I moved on in life working everyday as hard and as long as I could. That is how i justify me living and them not. I prove i belong here on earth. I would be so tired when I get home i would play with my kids, help with homework and go to bed. No time to think....
Avatar f tn so I missed my period May 20th and I had eye surgery May 21 (I was one day late) and they took my blood for pregnancy test and it came out negative. 8 days later I still hadn't got my period so I took a test at home and it was positive. I'm curious why it came out negative? I was only 3 weeks so I'm guessing the hcg level wasn't in my system yet but 6/7 days later it was? it's confusing!

Avatar n tn I am a 40 year old female and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in Oct 2006. I have felt great on Synthroid until November 07 when I started to have some pain in my neck area. It took several months for my doctors and me to finally narrow it down (anxiety?! stress?!) ... I finally went to an endo.! The pain is non-stop pressure in my lower neck/throat area and is much worse on the right side. It does not go away except when I am sleeping.
Avatar n tn I did probably need pain meds more than most due to some preexisting TMJ and an old upper back injury (your head is tilted back for the duration of the surgery) which accelerated after surgery. Waking up was the most painful but after getting regulated on pain meds, it was not too bad. It wasn't actually too bad. My surgery was 1030 a.m. and I was out by 7 a.m. the next morning and had to drive 4 hrs home (not me driving of course, lol). My incision is unbelievable it is so nicely done.
Avatar f tn Hello, I went in to surgery for the 1st time on january 16th 2008, to have a total thyroidectomy.. well needless to say 45mins after they had taken me back and started surgery and that means cutting throat the doctor decides she is sick and they closed me up and sent me home and told me to come back in a week.. Well I trusted the doctor and said ok but I got a really bad sore throat and when it was time to go back in for the surgery again I told the doctor and she said no big deal .
Avatar f tn My husband is worried about the poss. of surgery. His leg is now in a splint up to his thigh. The break was a clean break strait across in about the mid section of his leg. He of course is in pain. The only time i allow him to get up is when he goes to the restroom and he has not put any weight on it at all since he broke it. One question is when he does let the leg drop as he walks on the crutches his foot turns a blue color is there a problem with that??
