Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Internal Medicine, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, USA. ***@**** BACKGROUND/AIMS: Current therapies for patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) do not achieve sustained viral clearance in most patients, and are associated with severe toxic effects. Our aim was to investigate the efficacy and safety of etanercept as adjuvant to interferon and ribavirin in treatment-naive patients with HCV.
Avatar m tn Can anyone tell me if peri spinal etanercept works ? I have had four back surgeries since 2000. The last two were for decompression of the L-4, L-5 and S-1 nerve roots. My third surgery was performed in January 2011 and the last one in July 2012. I am still having pain around my right hip, left calf , left ankle and left foot. MRI and CT Myloegram do not show anything. Help !

Avatar f tn Hi, my 18 year old son has just found out his girlfriend is pregnant, he had been on methotrexate for the last 13 years and we have always been warned about the dangers of fathering a child, I have read on this site a lot of people saying the child has been ok but they seem only to have been taking this med for a few months, does anyone have any advice for someone who has been taking this drug weekly since they were 5 years old and how it will affect an unborn child as he is at odds of whether t
5954444 tn?1377473390 Just in case you are curious, it takes us three to four days to detox a patient and get him/her back home drug free and feeling well on Naltrexone therapy (no opiates). At home, the basic technique is to space out the pills you take on a consistent manner until you take only one at night, then half at night, than every other night and then none.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the great information...I'm glad I like to research, although I'm not real fond of paying for information that is probably public info somewhere. I had been to several of the sites you mentioned above but not others...I'll go exploring. I have another question for you if you are OK with that...I have it posted on a dead thread somewhere. This is a tough one... Here's my dilemma.... I am taking Enbrel for my severe RA (a TNF blocker) and prednisone.
Avatar m tn The standard therapy options include intravenous immunoglobulin and plasmapharesis, corticosteroids, azathioprine, cyclophosphamide, etanercept, mycophenolate mofetil, interferon alpha 2a and tacrolimus. Current ones are interferon beta 1a, rituximab, and high dose cyclophosphamide. Your neurologist needs to apprise you of the long-term side effects since prolonged therapy are required. Botox shots are not known to be used in therapy.
Avatar m tn Reactivation occurred in 9 (5%) cases, including 1 patient who died due to liver failure. In summary, anti-TNF agents caused significant liver damage in HBsAg-positive patients, including elevated alanine transferaminase (ALT) levels in 42% (indicating liver cell injury or death), reappearance of HBV-DNA in 39%, and death from liver failure in 5%. The rate of reactivation in people with resolved HBV infections was 7-fold lower than in HBsAg-positive patients.
Avatar n tn I did not want to take the medicine, but realize that i did suffer from depression and other things, and for me this drug really works, and it does not make me feel high or groggy (maybe for a little while in the beginning) but it all leveled out, now looking back at my life i realize that i do need this medicine, and if i could not take the zoloft i would be trying to find something that works, that is how much this antidepressant has changed my life......
Avatar f tn HIV is only transmitted by unprotected sex or by direct exposure to blood, like when sharing needles for drug injection. It is never transmitted by razor blades in barber shops.
941118 tn?1312281926 - He says I do not need a hospital induction for this drug. He told me that in people without heart disease this is a good drug (same story I heard when I successfully took rhythmol). My questions for you guys and I guess my cardiologist on Friday. Should I try it? If I do, do I need to be in the hospital? Should I have more tests first? Is a stress echo the same as an echo? Do I need another Holter and what DOES my Holter reveal for heaven sakes???

Avatar f tn Just looking for anymore information or advise about withdraws from Fioricet / I have been taking this medication from years from Migrain headaches, it's seemed the longer I was on it the less it helped so I would increase my doses because I could not get rid of my headaches the other day I just stopped using it because it was like just this non stop headache.
Avatar f tn I took him off the lithium thinking that was the cause because after doing research sleeping all the time was something major with that drug. I was also thinking that it could be the Coreg because they up the dose last time he saw the doctor but that has had time to get in his system and not be the problem. What I am wondering is if it could be something else with the heart causing the problem.
1713248 tn?1308655353 Worried about new vertex drug because of the strict demands about taking the drug exactly on time or u can build up resistance to protease inhibitors. I may wait to see what other drugs come through in the next couple years. Tough decision. Alorajean, my nurse practitioner told me that it is only a 3-5 percent chance that u pass the virus to your child at birth. My son could have gotten over the years if we carelessly shared a toothbrush...it's hard to determine.
Avatar m tn A comment, then an answer. I provided the information I did in an effort to give you as much relevant information as possible because ultimately this is a decision you need to take yourself. If you stop the valacyclovir you may not have a recurrence and, in fact, I suspect you will not. I would suggest being off the drug at least a week before resuming sex, just to be on the safe side. Second, you should discuss the situation with your wife.
Avatar n tn I have a friend who is majorly addicted to oxycotin 80mg. I'm really clueless about this drug and he has asked me for help. From Friday to Sunday he's taken 16 pills by mouth or my snorting them. I don't know if this is a high dose or not, I'm really clueless. He says he's become tolerant to the medication and has to snot them now just to get a "high".
708731 tn?1229049180 There is alot of information on mixing birth control with thyroid medication. Simply, most information I came across says taking birth control meds will deplete your thyroid medication and lower thyroid function. May alter TSH testing. You may want to take a look at this old post from an expert side ( Doctor) here on Med Help http://www.medhelp.org/forums/mentalhealth/messages/30184a.
Avatar f tn I dated a white heterosexual male who is in the navy. He is a non drug user. He had been recently divorced with one child. I have always practiced safe sex. during our relationship we always used condoms except on a trip we had sex (only vaginal intercourse) about 4 times without them he never ejaculated inside me. I know symptoms arent a good way to diagnose anything but The next day after having unprotected sex with him i felt like crap. Doesnt the navy regularly screen for STDS?
1524673 tn?1327841500 Thank you Dr. Sharma, I know that my adrenal glad is damaged. Morning cortisol level very low, going in on monday for additional tests. I have not been on steriods, stopped taking them last summer. Will start again probably Monday. My neuro prescribed a drug called Cambie, which is Diclofenac potassium, although not a narcotic it totally messes me up. My neuro and my endo have not communicated yet. All of this has happened very quickly.
Avatar f tn ask him to take an at home drug test and see how he reacts to that....i would be worried he was still using to if i were you....us addicts learned how to fit in and function like normal folk quit well.
