When I mentioned this to him at my last exam he basically told me unfortunately I am on the highest patch dose and he does not want me to take oral estrogen since there are higher risks so nothing he could do. I feel like I should get a second opinion because I feel like there may be other options for me. At the age of 41, I can't stand these hot flashes not to mention the depression and anxiety I am now experiencing. Can you tell me what kind of doctor would be best for me to see?

personally I am in favor of estrogen replacement , especially at your age.
so i just now at 50 got put on the low dose patch estradiol...i have been on anxiwty drugs for twenty years and was doing aoaky till a few years back so i wanted to see if the estrogen would help me...i need my sex drive back will it help with that and my mood and vagianl dryness...
He said this actually reduces breast cancer risks and tends to make heart healthier. the estrogen-progesterone combo is now thought to increase breast cancer risks and be unhealthy for the female heart.
I had my tubes and ovaries out last Thursday, and personally I plan on not taking any hormones unless I develop symptoms i can not deal with.
I am going to increase my calcium though, both with a supplement and in diet.
I have a uterus in tact I was prescribed combined hrt progesterone and estrogen estarlis patches. Then I went to another gyno who said that recent studies have proved that estrogen only with uterus in tact is safer that in fact it's the progesterone that is toxic.
Is anyone receiving the same advice?
Estrogen causes some of the glands in the breast tissue to swell .Birth control patch causes consistent release of estrogen which causes elevated estrogen levels throughout the body making the breasts become larger. If you are too concerned it will be best to discuss it with your gynecologist. I hope it helps.

Oh definitely - headaches can be caused by ovarian hormone changes. Since your only ovary was removed two months ago, you may still have some of your body's own estrogen and the patch may be giving you too much. Or the fluctuations of the patch may be the cause of your headaches. The problem is that every woman who has hormonally triggered headaches is different and what works for one may or may not work for another. So it is a matter of trial and error to find what works best.
Hi, I had a complete hysterectomy and have been on an estrogen patch ( vivelle dot) for ten years. I have had migraines for 30 yrs.
I’m really struggling because changing the patch every three days triggers a migraine like clock work. At 12 hrs the pain begins and builds so by 24 hrs it’s debilitating. Pain meds are not an option that frequently obviously.
Would it help to overlap the tone I put one on and take the old one off. Clearly the rise and fall of estrogen is the trigger.

Jr1971, it seems to me that my doctor said the very same thing and that is what is confusing about the news. From what I get out of it is that the study only looks at women who have gone through natural menopause and not surgical menopause. I can see where taking something that your body is naturally not producing anymore is not good.
The P450 system helps process both of the hormones in the pill, the patch, and the ring—estrogen and progestin. Some medicines speed up or slow down this enzyme system. If the system is revved up, it will go to work breaking down and removing the hormones faster than normal, resulting in lower levels of the hormones to get the job done. It can result in such low levels of hormone that the pill, patch, or ring don’t work.
What if I take a medication that messes with hormonal birth control?
They are having me increase my Progesterone shots from 1cc to 1.5ccs and get an Estrogen patch. The nurse says that this doesn't mean that the procedure didn't take but I am worried. It sounds like a bad sign. My question is for other people who have had IVF. Has this happened to you? Did it mean you weren't pregnant? I am being paranoid or should I prepare myself for the worst? I have had IUI twice and this is my first IVF.
I have been on estrogen replacement since my surgery in 1998. I still have moderate-severe hot flashes and they seem to be getting more intense with age.
I switched from oral Premarin which covered me pretty well but I didn't want to be taking pills the rest of my life. Since then I have tried a variety of patches that are really not very effective on a regular basis and very expensive. At my age, what do you recommend. Is Premarin dangerous (risk of DVT).
Hi! I have low estrogen and normal FSH (I'm 38, though). My course of action is to wear an estrogen patch from 3 days after ovulation to 12 days after ovulation (since that's when mine is dropping off). I have heard of (and tried it once, but didn't like how I felt) that the patch can also be worn during CD8-12 to help with low estrogen. My acupuncturist told me that the patch is the most similar to actual estrogen (versus pills) so I pushed for that!
Mayfly, It is so hard to say if the patch of Vivelle caused the weight gain. This is such a complicated subject. I am wondering if your body was making Estrogen in the form of Estrone (which is the 'menopause' estrogen that is made as a by-product from the fat in our system... and this fat is what causes the fat around our middle section so that it is readily available for use by the body since women's bodies crave estrogen)...
or rather used a estrogen patch..Estrogen is available in many foms ,,lotions. body mist,,vaginal pellets,,,I like the patch its small acurate and easy to use...Please use bio identical..Premarin the "old-fashioned " estrogen is actually made from horses urine..Bi-Identical is the closest possible at this time to what your own body would make...I recommend Vivelle..Of corse you must discuss with your doctor what she or he thinks is best or you,,and then YOU decide...
She was switched from an oral estrogen pill to a patch. Her family physician and her gyn are now ok with her either continuing her estrogen or discontinuing as she sees fit. Right now that is not at the top of her list.
Right now her biggest concern is getting off of the keppra that is causing her heart to slow and skip beats. Her neurosurgeon was pretty much a jerk and told her to follow up with another doctor - a neurologist. So, we are playing the bounce around between doctors game.
I have been on the estradiol patch for 5 weeks! I was on the .725 dose. I have gained about 8 pounds and I am freaking out! I have been extremely co scoops of my diet and etc. my doctor suggested we lower the dose to the .375 to see if it will help! How long will it be before I see the weight come off?
My recovery went well, except that my stomach muscles were sore (I had an open bikini cut), but now my incision no longer hurts. My concern is that I have been placed on the estrogen patch since one week after the surgery. I started having headaches, pains under my arms, and my feet started swelling more than usual. The doctor asked me to cut the patch in half, still changing it twice a week.
