Estrogen patch menopause

Common Questions and Answers about Estrogen patch menopause

vivelle-dot

Avatar f tn I have been in surgical menopause for six years now. I have been using the estrogen patch (Vivelle dot .1) since my surgery and have had no problems with hot flashes. However, for the past 8 months I having been getting hot flashes every now and then. Is this normal? When I mentioned it to my doctor, he just said I was already taking the highest dose the patch comes in and didn't like the idea of me using the oral kind.
1168718 tn?1464983535 Hi, I'm on a HRT (Vivelle-Dot) but I'm also a limbolander, but I might be of some help. I was put on Vivelle-Dot after loosing all my hormones due to a hysterectomy. Both Vivelle-Dot and Climara seem to contain estradiol (a form of estrogen bioidentical to your body's own). In the summer, I have been on this med for a year. I was put on this med right after my last form of hormone was removed (which was one ovary by this point).
Avatar f tn Dear Amy good question personally I am in favor of estrogen replacement , especially at your age.
Avatar f tn I remember that prior to starting treatment in Sept 09, I read somewhere that being post menopause would be a negative strike against me but I still opted to NOT take estrogen. I have been in surgical menopause since 1996, I took estrogen for 10 years and then quit because of the increased chance of breast cancer after taking estrogen so many years. I finished treatment (without taking estrogen since 2006) and I achieved SVR.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your responses. It is comforting knowing that I'm not alone with this yet I am also sad that others have to make these hard decisions too! Jr1971, it seems to me that my doctor said the very same thing and that is what is confusing about the news. From what I get out of it is that the study only looks at women who have gone through natural menopause and not surgical menopause. I can see where taking something that your body is naturally not producing anymore is not good.
437027 tn?1670266352 Some find surgical menopause difficult. Some people sail through it no problem. You can be put on an Estrogen patch, but if you have had a cancer diagnosis that is not always an option. I can't tell you about my personal experience with it, as I am just a "left over" from the old days when this forum was for everyone and I am well aware that I am not welcome here, as I, thankfully, was fortunate to receive a benign diagnosis.
Avatar f tn Estrogen typically alleviates the symptoms you are experiencing. I am in surgical menopause and depend on estrogen to keep me emotionally stable as well as help with a number of other symptoms such as insomnia, memory, focus, temperature regulation, etc.
Avatar f tn Mayfly, It is so hard to say if the patch of Vivelle caused the weight gain. This is such a complicated subject. I am wondering if your body was making Estrogen in the form of Estrone (which is the 'menopause' estrogen that is made as a by-product from the fat in our system... and this fat is what causes the fat around our middle section so that it is readily available for use by the body since women's bodies crave estrogen)...
Avatar n tn I also do not have ovaries but I take estrogen. When my estrogen level gets rather high, my FSH is low (in the range of a menstruating woman). When my estrogen is on the lower side, my FSH rises.
Avatar f tn I started having the usual symptoms of menopause about the same time I had my first migraine, Jan 4. 2003. I had never had a migraine until that day. Not one. My physicians told me over and over that the migraines are not related to the hyster.. I can't really see how that's possible. Many of the menop. symptoms have lessened but the migraines are as strong as ever. I take Femtrace as a hormone replacement.
Avatar f tn Postmenopausal bleeding, timing of meds& 15mm lining by iatrofears, less than a minute Hi my last period was 11/2011 so i guess as of 11/2012 i started menopause. March 2013 i started climara patch& progesterone but since the patch gave me hives i was only partially compliant. Also i'd forget to take the progesterone sometimes. Tests: 1.Ultrasound 8/2012( before true 'menopause' began because only 8 months of no periods not 12). The endometrium thickness 7.
429647 tn?1249753429 my ttumor was tested and it was estrogen positive i am on an estrogen blocker.. how about asking your doc if the tumor was estrogen positive or not.
Avatar f tn I take estrogen patch & medroxyprogesteron pill &also I have hot flashes. I'm only 33yrs old.
Avatar f tn It isn`t a yeast infection. It is menopause related,I am sure.I am just not sure if it will heal on it`s own.I am using a cortisone cream 2x a day.I was given the prescription a year ago and I used it for 3 months. It helped with the dryness, itchiness and thinning of the skin in the area.I was not dealing with an open lesion though.
Avatar m tn The only thing I have done is up my estrogen patch from 0.025 to 0.0375 due to panic attacks. I am also taking progesterone (compound pharmacy) . When this started I went back down to 0.025 patch. This has all happened in the past month. Anyone have any advice.
Avatar n tn t have, and was placed on a higher dose of estrogen. I use the vivelle dot patch, oral estrogen and vaginal estrogen. This seems to have helped the urinary problems amongst other things. Are you on hormone replacement? There is a great book I am reading called "Screaming to be heard" by Elizabeth Vliet MD and it really goes into detail on how hormones affect every organ system. Are you on Hormone replacement? I hope this helps, and I hope you get some answers.
Avatar f tn to what you used to make in spades... thus keeping your levels of estrogen (since Premarin is estrogen only... Prempro is estrogen and progestin) stable during menopause. It is the fluctuations in hormones that can cause hot flashes, etc. But it is the decrease in estrogen, particularly Estradiol, that can cause many of the other symptoms... such as bone loss, memory issue, vaginal dryness, word-retrieval issues, fatique, dry eyes, blood sugar issues, joint and bone pain, etc.
1641433 tn?1303010754 I also heard that there were some women whose cancer came back because they were on an estrogen patch and er+.If I am I will definitely have to cope somehow with menopause but like you said jane39 it s better to deal with that then have cancer.I just hope I will be one of those whose menopause is not too difficult on them.Ugh it is really hard to deal with all of this I gotta say. I admire you women for being so courageous and strong.
Avatar n tn My recovery went well, except that my stomach muscles were sore (I had an open bikini cut), but now my incision no longer hurts. My concern is that I have been placed on the estrogen patch since one week after the surgery. I started having headaches, pains under my arms, and my feet started swelling more than usual. The doctor asked me to cut the patch in half, still changing it twice a week.
Avatar m tn I would like to take estrogen to help the menopause symptoms still driving me crazy one year after surgery and chemo for ovarian cancer stage 2c - I also had a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy as I have a history of breast cancer in my family - I have heard the HRT can increase the incidence of OC but I am wondering if an estrogen patch would be safe as I have had my ovaries, uterus, tubes, cervix, and breasts removed surgically.
Avatar n tn there is a wonderful fairly new product that many of us use and like its called the vivelle dot its an estrogen patch thats applied to the lower abdomen 2 or 3 times per week easy to use . I dont think you really need a baseline of what her hormones where prior to surgery there is a normal range that is standard for all women ...bioidentical is 4 sure the way to go..
Avatar f tn It has not helped with keeping me from having osteoporosis. Even with bhrt, we are all subject to cancers as Estrogen is Estrogen regardless if it is natural or not. You have to decide is it better to look great while you age or risk your health. I am going to try weaning off the hormones and see how I feel. Look up a product called "Myomin" by Dr Chi. I have been taking that for the last couple of weeks and have started to feel great of which I haven't felt in a long time.
587083 tn?1327120262 Since menopause,I have consumed some natural product containing some kind of estrogen to control the night sweating, hot flashes.I drank milk made of soy,ate soy beans and tofu. Could this be the cause that my mammogram was abnormal?I have to have another mammogram and an ultrasound at the end of this month. am very worried and don't know what to think anymore.Maybe the natural things I ate, containing estrogen is the cause that I might have cancer?
Avatar f tn While my guess is that it IS related to your hormones and patch, profuse sweating can also be a sign of an internal disorder like diabetes or thyroid dysfunction, autoimmune issue, and other things. So, yes, I'd see your doctor. But it very well may be the patch as hormones can affect sweating, changes in hormones especially and odor that can go with it. Good times.
Avatar m tn I had an abdominal hysterectomy 8 months ago, my ovaries were left in but only work off and on. I have had terrible migraines, depression, anxiety and panic attacks, hot flashes, mood swings and don't feel at all like myself. None of this was something I experienced prior to the surgery. I was told that if my ovaries were left in, I wouldn't go into menopause. Has anyone else experienced this? Will it go away and how do I get back to feeling normal. Help!
