Estrogen patch after hysterectomy

Common Questions and Answers about Estrogen patch after hysterectomy

vivelle-dot

Avatar f tn carol I use the Vivelle ( estrogen only ) patch so far really happy with it, It seems that I have noticed many women need estrogen only,,,,at first then after x amount of years need testosterone also, who knows maybe I need it now, but I am asymptomatic so I choose not to treat it. I personally dont advise anyone to use anything but bio-identical hormones. Many doctors go by a womans description of how she feels, if your having doubts do by all means request a hormone test, simple blood test.
Avatar m tn I have tinkered with Prometrium and testosterone cream. I have read mixed results about progesterone after hysterectomy. The testosterone cream, I thought, was causing acne. I NEVER have acne, so I stopped taking that. I noticed other issues going on and my regular doctor said it was due to the V-dot patch. My gyno did blood work and it came back low thyroid. I am scheduled to see the Endocrinologist on Monday. I have, since, been taking Synthroid for the thyroid issues.
709441 tn?1233340088 I am not a doctor, just someone who has been on Bioidentical hormones since 2000 after my Hysterectomy (radical). I, too, started that very day on an estrogen patch. I use Vivelle Estradiol... climara is good, too. Newer research indicates that Estradiol (the kind of estrogen we had pumping through us in our 20's) is the only way to go. The book I mentioned a thousand times has been the most helpful to me. "Screaming to be Heard" by Dr.
Avatar n tn Hello, my wife had a full hysterectomy approximately 10 years ago and everything was taken out, EVERYTHING. She had a few cysts and her gynecologist suggested a full hysterectomy due to the fact that the cysts could come back if she were to get a a half hysterectomy. Long story short, she's a strong woman who really keeps it together but she has recently expressed that she's been battling depression.
Avatar f tn Please check out my post (on hysterectomy) that I wrote to Allgirl. I know Laney would agree with the recommendation of the books I mentioned in that post. There is help... try not to let it overwhelm you. If you don't have ovaries, the progesterone will do nothing for you ... it may even do things for you in the opposite fashion than what you would expect. Sorry.. that came out funny. I was on Progesterone for years, but went off about half a year ago and have never felt better...
Avatar n tn Hi, I had a total hysterectomy on April 20 (3 months ago). I had my uterus, ovaries, cervix and tubes removed due to fibroids, ovarian cysts, and endometrosis (found during the operation). I also scheduled a urologist to come in after the hysterectomy and perform a bladder suspension. I'm 55 years old and prior to surgery I had not stopped bleeding on a regular basis, so the hysterectomy was my "menopause".
778044 tn?1299542934 Have you had any resolution to this? I've recently realized the patch exposes me to 60% more estrogen, after battling endo for 15yrs. I strongly believe my dr has overlooked this, & that it's one of the reasons I now suffer from widespread chronic symptoms. He refused to switch my b.c. - stating that my ONLY options were the 3 that keep him on my payroll: get pregnant, go back on Lupron, or full hysterectomy with add-back (none of which are cures).
Avatar f tn Since then I have been on an estrogen patch and felt great for the first couple of months after the procedure. I began to experience low back pain; particularly in the morning. So severe at times that I can hardly bend to put on my shoes. I did gain 20lbs but I am still active at 46 years old. Is it possible to have a prolaspe bladder as I feel that there is something coming out of me. Also, when I have sneezed or coughed, I feel a ripping in my abdomin but does not hurt.
429647 tn?1249753429 I had a full. hysterectomy and the surgeon put me on a 1.0 patch after surgery..my flashes were so bad and I was up all night terrible drenched sheets and clothes that they gave me 2 patches...after coming home from the hospital after a 3 week stay due to many complications...I switched to the vivelle dot patch and I am now on 0.5 which is so much lower than i was on..so far so good...it is from a plant deritative which I heard is better...it stablizes my mood also...
Avatar n tn there is a wonderful fairly new product that many of us use and like its called the vivelle dot its an estrogen patch thats applied to the lower abdomen 2 or 3 times per week easy to use . I dont think you really need a baseline of what her hormones where prior to surgery there is a normal range that is standard for all women ...bioidentical is 4 sure the way to go..
Avatar n tn m on the Vivelle patch dot 0.1, I have been prescribed to wear 2 because my estrogen level is low. I am experiencing some things like moodiness, anxiety, headaches and concentration issues. Any suggestions or is this something that levels out?
Avatar f tn Some women complain of gaining weight due to water retention when they take estrogen. I have not personally experienced that. But many women gain weight after hysterectomy too because it changes metabolism even when the ovaries are not removed. How is the lower dose working out?
Avatar m tn Disrupted sleep was one of the first symptoms to manifest after my hysterectomy. Since you were started on the patch, I assume your ovaries were removed. Ovary removal is a severe trauma to the entire endocrine system. Estrogen can help mitigate some of the onslaught but it can take some trial and error to find the right product and dose. There are many options to try - patches, gels, pills, vaginal ring. I hope you find something to help you sleep and address any other symptoms that appear!
Avatar f tn hi when my husband and i have sex i must use ky jelly first because im very dry, after we have had sex i am very, very sore. it is after i have had a lower hysterectomy. please help what can i do.
Avatar n tn What type of hormones are you taking? Are you on Premarin? Or on any other synthetic hormones? Or on the vaginal ring? or the Vivelle patch? Estratest? Bioidentical Progesterone? And, what about testosterone, either gel or cream, which we women can use "off-label" but some formulas can be put on the cliteral/genital area and work wonders regarding the issue you mentioned.
Avatar f tn I have never heard of MI being a contraindication to taking estrogen (in transdermal form anyway - such as a patch or gel). Transdermals do not have the clotting risk that oral forms do.
Avatar n tn What are the "norm" levels of Estrogen for a woman after a hysterectomy? It's been almost two years since mine and I'm going CRAZY !!
Avatar f tn Hi, I had a complete hysterectomy and have been on an estrogen patch ( vivelle dot) for ten years. I have had migraines for 30 yrs. I’m really struggling because changing the patch every three days triggers a migraine like clock work. At 12 hrs the pain begins and builds so by 24 hrs it’s debilitating. Pain meds are not an option that frequently obviously. Would it help to overlap the tone I put one on and take the old one off. Clearly the rise and fall of estrogen is the trigger.
Avatar f tn I have been using the tablets since early 2013. However, after stopping the patch, I used a different form which got my estrogen level up. I then switched to the tablets which do a good job of maintaining my level. It is hard to say if you are getting too much or too little since symptoms can be similar. However, I have read that the patch does a poor job of "filling up" the estrogen tank so to speak. So if your level is low, it may be impossible to get enough with the patch.
Avatar f tn When I left the hospital I was fine emotionally for about a week, as they placed a large estrogen patch on my abdomen before I woke up form surgery. When that evidently started to wear off, the EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS from when I was 20 came back with a vengeance - cold sweat panic attacks/severe can't-stop-crying depression, etc.
Avatar f tn Your back and rib cage pain (and possibly leg pain) could be an indication of bone loss which can occur fairly rapidly after the ovaries are removed (or shut down after hysterectomy). But hysterectomy (uterus removal) even when ovaries are not removed destroys pelvic integrity since the ligaments that hold the uterus in place are the support structures for the torso.
Avatar n tn t have, and was placed on a higher dose of estrogen. I use the vivelle dot patch, oral estrogen and vaginal estrogen. This seems to have helped the urinary problems amongst other things. Are you on hormone replacement? There is a great book I am reading called "Screaming to be heard" by Elizabeth Vliet MD and it really goes into detail on how hormones affect every organ system. Are you on Hormone replacement? I hope this helps, and I hope you get some answers.
Avatar f tn Not having a uterus explains a lot. Weight gain is a common complaint after hysterectomy even if the ovaries are not removed. But weight gain or not, the lower abdomen gradually becomes distended after hysterectomy. The reason is because four sets of ligaments are cut to remove the uterus. Those ligaments are the structural supports for the pelvis keeping the spine, hips, and rib cage in their proper positions.
Avatar m tn Women whose ovaries were removed or failed from loss of blood flow after hysterectomy have an increased risk for a number of health problems due to estrogen deficiency (and possibly testosterone deficiency too). These include heart disease, osteoporosis, dementia, Parkinsonism, cognitive and memory impairment, mood disorders (mood swings, depression), anxiety, poor sleep quality, visual changes, skin changes, muscle wasting, hot flushes, vaginal atrophy.
