Avatar f tn I had unprotected oral sex six months ago and now im having symptoms of throat infection , dry mouth and palpable lymph nodes on neck my question is does acute retroviral syndrome could occur after six months and do i require testing?
Avatar n tn If you are positive and never get tested you will likely develop aids within 8-10 years. If you start taking retroviral medication you can extend your life to about 15 years. I read a study that people that take retroviral medication early may extend the lifespan by 30 years. There are major breakthroughs going on right now as well so there could be a cure in 10 years or better retroviral medication to prevent aids.
Avatar n tn as others have told you the no effect from any drug except anti retroviral drugs
Avatar n tn Acute Retroviral Syndrome (ARS)
Avatar n tn I recently had unprotected sex with a sex worker while traveling to a developing country for business. I've been diagnosed with gonorrhea, which I am being treated for. However, I'm also concerned about having contracted other STDs. Two days after the contact I was tested for HIV and syphilis. The tests were negative. Three days after contact I came down with a fever, chills, fatigue and sore throat. On that same day I was given an antibiotic.
Avatar m tn Trust me if you're on anti-retroviral med you're gonna realise how cheap condoms are compared to it.
Avatar n tn NO, it does not have the same effect as the retroviral medications for treating HIV. I believe you've been told this in another thread. Works good for HBV though.
Avatar m tn I learned the next day that he has been HIV positive for over 17 years, had an active disease at one point, has been on anti-retroviral regiment (currently on Ziagen, didanosine and lexiva) for years and has had undetectable viral load since 1999 (over 10 years). Naturally, I am freaking out. I read about PEP. Can anyone recommend what the best move I can make now?
Avatar n tn I am worried about a recent low risk exposure to and am worried that I am showing signs of acute retroviral syndrome. The exposure happened 3 weeks ago and I am noticing two lateral lines along the sides of my tongue that look like they could be oral hairy leukoplakia. Can this manifest during ARS? Or is it more an indicator of longtime HIV?
Avatar m tn I appologize in advance if the terminology i use throughout the question is entirely un-medical/professional.. I'm a bisexual male who had unprotected sexual contact with another male met off of Craig's List. The other male claims to have had one long term partner and a couple of "hook-ups". Though there was absolutely no anal penetration, at one point there was a significant amout of him grinding against my penis with his *** hole.
Avatar f tn Just this week I did a retroviral test and tested for HIV but it came out as negative. I’m not sure of the type of test done but it blood was drawn out with a syringe in a lab and i received the results almost two hours after. How accurate is the results? These symptoms are overwhelming and too much of a coincidence if you ask me. I’m I infected with HIV or I’m I negative like the results after 6 weeks of exposure is saying?
Avatar m tn No not all people go through Acute Retroviral Syndrome.
Avatar m tn is it possible that a hiv positive person on ART(anti-retroviral treatment) and have a undetectable viral load test negative on an hiv antibody test. therefore recklessly infected other people without being proved hiv positive themselves on a standard antibody test?
Avatar m tn I do not know her status though I am negative. Do I need to worry? Should I consider retroviral? I feel really stupid for getting into this situation over a kiss but I don't think I am overreacting. Any advice most welcome..
Avatar m tn 3.) Yes, they do. Antibodies are always detected, as well as the virus (if not on anti-retroviral treatment). 4.) Not at all.
Avatar m tn The Acute Retroviral Syndrome that I assume you are talking about shows up 2-4 weeks after an actual exposure.
Avatar m tn It is true indeed that anti-retroviral medication can affect the liver and casue elevation in the lipids, but this usually happens when patients have been taking this medication long term and not after only a month. However it is still possible and I would recommedn that you keep monitoring this. 2) There is no need for you to be concerned about HIV. It is confirmed that you are negative.
