Enoxaparin heparin induced thrombocytopenia

Common Questions and Answers about Enoxaparin heparin induced thrombocytopenia

lovenox

Avatar n tn It turns out that portal vein and superior mesenteric vein are thrombosed. They put her on enoxaparin and wanted her to rest for 5 days until the next control. She refused to be put on heparin or warfarin because of her history of gastrointestinal bleeding and recent surgery. We've been told thrombectomy would be extremely risky, given her medical history. I read somewhere enoxaparin only prevents further occlusion of the vein and does not lyse existing clot.
Avatar n tn In one study, 50 women with thrombophilia (including 20 factor V Leiden heterozygotes) and recurrent pregnancy loss were treated with enoxaparin throughout 61 subsequent pregnancies. The live birth rate was 75% with enoxaparin prophylaxis, compared to 20% in prior untreated pregnancies [Brenner et al 2000].
Avatar n tn continue through with warfarin, or to stop the warfarin and bridge in between with enoxaparin or heparin (as snconorm had done). http://www.circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/content/full/116/22/2531 So continuing through with warfarin seems to be the newer strategy. What would NOT be done is to stop anticoagulation altogether.
Avatar m tn The biggest risk is that of bleeding, as Ken says. Another is heparin induced thrombocytopenia (HIT), where an autoimmune response kills the platelets.
Avatar m tn I am 27 weeks pregnancy and have dvt, start to using CLEXANE(ENOXAPARIN) I am really worried is there any harm to my baby Thanks & Rgards
Avatar f tn Okay so I am 37+4 and I have been on Heparin for a little over a week now and was on lovenox since I found out I was pregnant due to a DVT I had back in June of 2012 after gallbladder surgery. My question is can I request to be induced? Its been stressful and I'm worried about going into labor naturally and not being able to have an epidural or having complications due to having to be on this medication. Does anyone think I would be able to be induced because of this risk factor?

Avatar f tn I was hospitalized due to severe headache, nausea and vomiting and my hematologist told me it was HIT (heparin induced thrombocytopenia) but not convinced the clot from my head was from HIT bec MRI said it is chronic. I have migraines, episodes of dizziness on and off.My repeat MRI showed the clot is still there. My hypercoagulation workup result was normal. All i want to know is there any prevention to this kind of disease knowing that all my coagulation workup was normal?
Avatar m tn What are the risks to the baby after the heparin is stopped and should she be induced after stopping the heparin?
Avatar n tn I was induced at 39 weeks with my first and I will be induced this Sunday with my second child, also at 39w. I would recommend taking the heparin because induction contractions are much stronger and more painful. Most people (but certainly not all) get an epidural if they are being induced. If you end up not wanting the epidural, great!

374593 tn?1257879950 Hello! so we are now 30 weeks pregnant with a miracle baby! i am on asprin and heparin.. and will have to be induced so that we plan in advance when to stop the blood thinners.. My question is for those of you that have done blood thinners during pregnancy, how soon did you stop the asprin? I believe my dr said we will stop one week before induction (and the heparin 12 hours before).
Avatar n tn All labs have a different reference range, in one of medical books, it says the normal range is 150,000 to 300,000. Thrombocytopenia (reduced platelet count) is usually caused, but not always, by certain infections, some anemias. They play an important role in blood coagulation and thrombus (clot) formation. I am not about the menstrual cycle causing this, I have heard that pregnancy can. Also, excessive alcoholic consumption can reduce the number as can the blood thinner, Heparin.
Avatar f tn I have to do twice a day till 37 weeks when they switch me to the low dose heparin. I also have to be induced at 39 weeks and then continue lovenox for 6 weeks after delivery.
Avatar m tn If for any reason your blood platelet count falls below normal, the condition is called thrombocytopenia. Normally, you have anywhere from 150,000 to 450,000 platelets per microliter of circulating blood. Because each platelet lives only about 10 days, your body continually renews your platelet supply by producing new platelets in your bone marrow. Thrombocytopenia has many possible causes.
Avatar m tn wow thank you CHIN_C for all the great details! I am a little less concerned now that the MRI seems unlikely to use iodine. We will be sure to ask if the IV is iodinated. I think maybe a little more history might also be helpful, my mother's reaction to contrast was during a stress test it probably was a stress test before hip replacement surgery or a heart stent/angioplasty Fast fwd 10 years she also gets a knee replacement surgery and in the hospital has heparin treatment to avoid clots.
Avatar n tn Both of my deliveries were induced at 39 weeks. I stopped taking the heparin the day before and went in the next morning to have my babies. Best of luck with everything!
374593 tn?1257879950 Hey everyone! i'm usually on the fertility forum, but had a question for those of you that might have been induced in the past due to other medical problems. I have MTHFR so i'm on heparin and asprin, and very thankfully 13 weeks pregnant ! : ) : ) anyhow my original due date is november 6th, but my obgyn said she would induce me earlier than that and we defintely wouldn't make it till november..
741877 tn?1265950200 I have been on asprin, folic acid, b vitamins and heparin most of the pregnancy... I will also have to be induced early.. the reason is that they dont want you going into labor while the blood thinners (even asprin) are still in your system.. I will start getting non stress tests and fetal fibronectin tests once a week starting at 30 weeks, just to make sure there are no signs of labor coming... its impossible to say if you should or shoudnt do the shots..
