Common Questions and Answers about Elidel vs hydrocortisone

elidel

Avatar n tn Milder steroids such as 1% OTC hydrocortisone and prescription hydrocortisone with iodoquinol creams are useful. Also useful in this area are Protopic and Elidel. But they should be used under a dermatologist’s guidance. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
1227049 tn?1267237385 The one thing I have found to control it and actually make me feel comfortable in my skin is hydrocortisone. I have been using the lowest formula of it (0.5%) for an extended period of time (probably since I got on the original accutane course) in these areas. I stopped it every now and then due to potential side effects, but nothing else worked, and it became too unbearable to manage, so I was forced to go back on it.
Avatar n tn Hello, As the skin of the penis is thin and delicate so avoid using any strong steroids on this area. You can however use milder steroids such as 1% OTC hydrocortisone(dermatop) and prescription hydrocortisone with iodoquinol creams. Also useful in this area are Protopic and Elidel. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted if you have any additional queries.
Avatar n tn Hello, Psoriasis of the penis should be treated judiously because excess exposure of the area to steroids can cause thinning and damage of the delicate penis skin. You can treat it with milder steroids such as 1% OTC hydrocortisone and prescription hydrocortisone with iodoquinol creams, Protopic and Elidel. Stronger steroids may be used sparingly for very short periods of time under close of the dermatologist. I hope it helps.
Avatar m tn Okay thanks, so then how long would you expect it to normally take for EpiCeram to work and completely clear the dermatitis, before I should turn to the Elidel? How about the Elidel?
Avatar m tn Creams like Elidel cream or Protropic can be used on these hypopigmented areas but at such a young age it is not advisable to use them . If the symptoms still persist then you can talk to your dermatologist about laser-assisted chemabrasion(LACA). It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed anti fungal creams for a secondary infection, then a steroid cream. nothing is working. hydrocortisone cream helps a little but irritates the soreness when I use it too often. I have to keep a cream on the sore areas all the time because if the area dries out the pain is terrible. Do you think a cream like Elidel would work? Do you have any suggestions to help me? What can I do to Help this at home? What is the best treatment for vaginal eczema? please help..
Avatar m tn Hello, Triamcinolone is a high potency steroid and should be used with caution on the delicate and thin skin of penis. Instead you should use milder steroids such as 1% OTC hydrocortisone and prescription hydrocortisone with iodoquinol creams. Also useful in this area are Protopic and Elidel. Please discuss these treatment options with your dermatologist.
Avatar n tn Treatment is by topical steroids or oral therapy of corticosteroids in severe cases. Topical creams like tacrolimus ointment (Protopic) and pimecrolimus cream (Elidel) are also useful. If still the symptoms do not improve then please get a clinical examination done by a dermatologist. I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted in case you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
Avatar m tn i have a skin question. i'm an african american and recently used hydrocortisone 2% for about 2 weeks on my face to clear up some rashes. i used it 3-4 times a day and the cream worked perfectly but now i have noticeably light spots on my cheeks, t area and corners of my mouth. i stopped using it about a week and a half ago but theres still no change.
Avatar n tn Our son develop a dry spot on hisforehead and we weretold byour pediatrician that we should apply aqua4, and hydrocortisone on it, shampoo with dandruf shampoo and switch soaps to dove. they said it was likely from cradle cap. we wanted to be sure so we saw a pediatric dermatologist. she prescribled nizoral cream once a day followed by lotion and vaseline (we chose to use lanolinh since he puts everything in his mouth, we also bought a humidifier).
Avatar f tn So quick background: Ever since I sucked on my lips while concentrating last August I've had problems. For months it was just little zit looking things on my lipline with redness and flakes, only one to three at a time. After unsuccessful visits to urgent care, a 10 day cycle of anti biotics that didn't work, I was somewhat able to manage it. Then one Saturday morning I got sunburnt on my face. The next day the bumps were back.

Avatar f tn This helped with everything except my lips. Prior to going for the antibiotics I had used hydrocortisone cream on small areas of eczema that would appear on my neck or forehead. I then used an antifungal for some angular chelitis with temporary decrease in symptoms. I was placed on Tacrolimus ointment that I had no relief from after almost a month, followed by Elidel that also provided no substantial relief.
Avatar m tn Today I use Rozex Gel 1% which looks fair for maintenance but does not eliminate the redness, sometime I use Elidel for 102 days, I am affraid to use Elidel because I heard 2 docs telling it can cause cancer, but Elidel evidently remove the redness from the face. Any advice from the lovely people here in this forum will be deeply appericiated.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with atopic dermatitis by a dermatologist and precribed Elidel or (pimecrolimus cream). I was told that Elidel does not have the side effects associated with topical steroid creams such as skin thinning and discoloration. This was necessary since the area affected is right on the skin around the meatus of my penis. Anyways, I used the Elidel for almost 12 days (twice a day) without any significant results, so I stopped.
Avatar m tn I saw my ENT doc which is very good and he notices I have redness on my face (cheeks), he recommended me to try Elidel. Today I am using Rozex and it helps and prevent Flares but still there is some redness. I am now 6 weeks post EOT, UND and hope to stay UND. Someone has experience with Elidel ? Can it cause any problem to the liver or to the treatement ?
1263075 tn?1269912896 I saw my doctor and she gave me a combination of Clotrimazole 1% and Hydrocortisone 1% cream. I used the cream for about 3 weeks. The blackish rash went away completely, but all of a sudden, there are two (very small) light patches around my mouth! They are not completely white, they are just a little lighter than the surrounding skin. They are not raised or have borders and they are not painful.
Avatar f tn After a month i broke out with atopic dermatitis again but this time it was red itchy bumps so she gave me elidel to use for 3 and a half months.. Whenever i stop elidel there are itchy pimple like rash on my cheeks with a little whithead that is tiny but oozes fluid! Is that a withdrawal from elidel?!!
Avatar m tn It seems as though my condition has improved somewhat, but not completely and I am wondering whether or not I should try the Elidel now since I want to get this resolved faster! So I want to know if Elidel is really safe for the penis skin, since on the instructions it says not to get in eyes, vagina, mouth or rectum. Okay, so what happens if some gets down into my urethra since the area I am treating is right on my meatus (skin at pee-hole opening)?
Avatar n tn Okay, I know what Elidel is and that it is a non-steroidal treatment to dermatitis. However, I want to know if it thins the skin at all, to any extent? I read on the internet from multiple websites, that TCI's do not cause skin thinning or the side effects associated with steroid ointments, which is why it's usually used. However, one website stated that Elidel does not thin the skin "as much as" steroid creams do! So which is it for sure?
Avatar n tn I have read that Elidel can possibly help to reverse skin atrophy, and definitely does not cause any itself. Is this true, & how so? If not, then what effect would Elidel have on thin skin that has suffered atrophy from the use of strong topical steroid creams?
Avatar m tn thank you both I do remember getting the UVB narrowband before while I was taking the Elidel, for some reason I had stopped taking the Elidel and now I'm taking it again but I haven't had the UVB lately, I will ask them to use both of them again b/c my skin cleared up a lil bit when they did both.
Avatar n tn It has been there for a couple of months. I have tried Hydrocortisone cream 1% and 2%, but that has done nothing. I have noticed it getting a little bit darker. I am female and so I am quite embarrassed by it. My makeup does not cover it up that well. I don't shave or wax my upper lip and haven't changed up my makeup or facial lotions. What else can I do?
Avatar n tn I was recently diagnosed with dermatitis by a local dermatologist and he prescribed me a topical medication called "Elidel", since he didn't think steroid creams were appropriate for the area of body that I am treating which has thin skin. Anyways, I have been using the Elidel for about 10 days now, and have NOT seen any noticable difference in my skin condition.
