Common Questions and Answers about Elidel side effects pimecrolimus

elidel

Avatar n tn I read on the internet from multiple sources, that TCI's do not cause skin thinning or the side effects associated with steroid ointments, which is why it's usually used. However, one website I read stated that Elidel does not thin the skin "as much as" steroid creams do! So which is it for sure? Does it, or does it NOT thin the skin in any way?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with atopic dermatitis by a dermatologist and precribed Elidel or (pimecrolimus cream). I was told that Elidel does not have the side effects associated with topical steroid creams such as skin thinning and discoloration. This was necessary since the area affected is right on the skin around the meatus of my penis. Anyways, I used the Elidel for almost 12 days (twice a day) without any significant results, so I stopped.
Avatar n tn I had used Elidel or "Pimecrolimus cream" for about 12 days (twice a day) as prescribed by a local dermatologist for dermatitis on an area of my body with naturally thin skin. After nearly two weeks use I saw no improvement, yet my condition did not seem to worsen either. Therefore, I stopped using and met with my doctor; who didn't seem concerned about it and basically said it wouldn't have done any harm.
Avatar m tn I understand that Elidel does not carry the side effects associated with steroid creams such as skin thinning, but does Elidel have any side effects to the skin at all that I should be aware of? Also, if I do give it a try, how long should I expect to see results (a week, 2, a month) and how long is it safe to use it for?
Avatar m tn Hi, As mentioned from the other post, the length of time before effect is seen as well as observable side effects varies from one person to another. For Elidel or pimecrolimus may cause severe burning of treated skin; new symptoms of viral skin infection; worsened skin symptoms; swollen glands, sore throat; or fever, chills, body aches, and flu symptoms. This medicine is not for long-term use and it is best that you talk to your attending physician or dermatologist prior to starting it.
1227049 tn?1267237385 5%) for an extended period of time (probably since I got on the original accutane course) in these areas. I stopped it every now and then due to potential side effects, but nothing else worked, and it became too unbearable to manage, so I was forced to go back on it. I am already terrified of what could potentially happen if used for a long time (glaucoma is the main thing scaring the crap out of me) that I am trying to stop using it on my face with mixed results...
Avatar n tn I have read that Elidel can possibly help to reverse skin atrophy, and definitely does not cause any itself. Is this true, & how so? If not, then what effect would Elidel have on thin skin that has suffered atrophy from the use of strong topical steroid creams?
Avatar m tn Okay thanks, so then how long would you expect it to normally take for EpiCeram to work and completely clear the dermatitis, before I should turn to the Elidel? How about the Elidel?
Avatar f tn I am currently using Elidel (pimecrolimus) 1%. This is an immunosupressant cream...could this cause my immune system to be supressed and not produce the HIV anti-bodies? I have been using this for well over 3 months.
Avatar f tn Treatment is by topical steroids or oral therapy of corticosteroids in severe cases.Topical creams like tacrolimus ointment (Protopic) and pimecrolimus cream (Elidel) are also useful. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or in case you have any additional doubts.Kind regards.
Avatar n tn The effects/ side effects would be the same if used on a normal skin, though these would be beneficial in dermatitis. If there are no apparent symptoms such as discolouration or dysuria a reaction is unlikely. Two weeks use of the ointment is unlikely to result in serious long term effects. Hope the information is helpful. Take care!
Avatar n tn Treatment is by topical steroids or oral therapy of corticosteroids in severe cases.Topical creams like tacrolimus ointment (Protopic) and pimecrolimus cream (Elidel) are also useful. Thirdly,it can be a contact dermatitis to lipsticks.Take some over the counter antihistaminic like benadryl or Claritin and see if it helps. If the symptoms persist then it will be best to have it assessed from a dermatologist. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted if you have any additional queries.

Avatar n tn Okay, I know what Elidel is and that it is a non-steroidal treatment to dermatitis. However, I want to know if it thins the skin at all, to any extent? I read on the internet from multiple websites, that TCI's do not cause skin thinning or the side effects associated with steroid ointments, which is why it's usually used. Avatar f tn Topical creams like tacrolimus ointment (Protopic) and pimecrolimus cream (Elidel) are also useful. Till then keep your lips well moisturized. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. Treatment can be started only when the diagnosis is confirmed. I sincerely hope that helps.

Avatar m tn My dermatologist says he doesn’t see anything to be concerned about and doesn’t believe there are any bad side effects from using the cream long term.
Avatar n tn What time frame (in exact number of consecutive days) using twice daily, can Elidel be safely used on the penis skin without likely causing any side effects? 10 days? 2 weeks? A month? Please help!
Avatar f tn but it is not a symptom of atopic dermatitis. so i was thinking that my body is poisoned from elidel because there are side effects like rashes popping out of my face. i never experienced it before.
Avatar m tn - Exposure of affected skin to intense ultraviolet light, such as narrow-band UVB - Medicines taken by mouth such as trimethylpsoralen (Trisoralen) - Medicines that she applied to her skin such as (Corticosteroid creams, immunosuppressants such as pimecrolimus (Elidel) and tacrolimus (Protopic),repigmenting agents such as methoxsalen (Oxsoralen)). She also tried some herbal options. Even though her vitiligo did not go away it improved significantly. It also stabilized and stopped spreading.
Avatar m tn I have only heard people taking psorlan drugs or UV therapy to try to repigment those white areas. Unfortunately psorlan drugs have side effects. Usually all the topicals require to either avoid the sunlight or use in the sunlight to activate them. I have light skin so mine don't seem as bad as those who are darker skinned. Then tend to show much more in all seasons, where mine is generally worse looking in summer months when I tan.
Avatar n tn The reason that elidel is administered topically is that little is absorbed and thus side effects such as immunosuppression are minimized. If you had acquired HIV, your test would be positive. Believe your test results. You do not have HIV and you do not need further testing.
