Nicelady Medications themselves can be classified as antiresorptive or bone anabolic agents. Teriparatide (Forteo) is also approved for the treatment of postmenopausal women who have severe osteoporosis and are considered at high risk for fractures. The medicine is given through daily shots underneath the skin and you can give these shots even at home. Another advantage is that it can be given in patients who cannot tolerate oral biphosphonate drugs.
Avatar f tn Hi-- When you say Medicare, I assume it is Medicare Part D, administered by an insurance company like Blue Cross, etc? If so, you might be in for sticker shock. I had a similar experience w/ Forteo, via Part D, they wanted $5K for 3 months. I went directly to Lilly, and qualified for pro bono meds for 2 years, the limit of tx on Forteo. My understanding is patients with cirrhosis get priority. Other Gilead experienced persons, and there are a few here, can tell you more.
Avatar m tn 1) Should oral Bisphosphanates be preferred over intravenous ? 2) Will Bisphosphonates be sufficient in this case, or are Teriparatides needed ? Teriparatide injections in India are quite expensive and monthly treatments for a year will double her monthly spending. 3) A second opinion was taken from a family doctor and he suggested taking Teriparatide injections alone. Does that not seem wrong - since parathyriod hormone will also increase resorption if calcium is deficient in the body ?

Avatar n tn If I recall, this theory came out of Eli Lilly when it came out with Prozac, and it was reinforced by a book by a psychiatrist paid by Eli Lilly that became a best seller when that drug was the first SSRI to come out. They claimed, and the book claimed even more, that this was the end of mental illness, which of course was and is ridiculous and we now know that serotonin levels may have nothing to do with why a person starts to have mental problems.
874521 tn?1424116797 mentioned is definitely correct, but there was also another really troubling problem a few years back with Zyprexa. Eli Lilly, the pharmaceutical company that manufactures it, was discovered illegally marketing Zyprexa as a treatment for dementia in elderly patients. The risk of death was significantly increased in these populations, and the company knew the risks definitely did not outweigh the benefits, and the drug wasn't effective in these populations.
Avatar n tn Actually, Allergy serum does likely contain Thimerosal. The pharmaceutical corporation Eli Lilly and Company gave Thiomersal the trade name Merthiolate, present in Desensitization injections (AKA. allergy shots).
Avatar m tn Mostly, the chemical imbalance theory most people think of was spread by Eli Lilly and then other companies when they came up with ssris and then snris. Serotonin wasn't the problem then and it isn't now. Depression can happen to anyone, sometime triggered by an event and sometimes from out of nowhere. Some day we'll know why, but we don't now, and we still have the arguments about genetics, chemical imbalances, and traumatic events as the cause.
Avatar f tn I have been on Forteo daily injections for 1 year and I have experienced considerable joint pains which did not exist prior to treatment. My left hip and knee, my right knee and my hands have been getting worse each month. Has anyone else experienced similar reactions?
Avatar f tn My doctor told me that I have Osteoporosis and wants me to try Forteo an injection for two years. Has anyone tried this drug and what were your side effects, if any. I don't want to make my stomach problems worse than there already are.
Avatar f tn I have severe osteoporosis and am trying to take Forteo. I started out with half dose and have worked up to a full dose. The full dose 2 days in a row was disabling. My doctor suggested every other day. So I let the previous trial work its way out of my system for 5 days and tried another full dose. This is three days after the dose and I am weaker each day. I move in slow motion. My doctor is puzzled. Anyone had a similar experience?
Avatar f tn Just was informed that I have osteoporosis. My doctor wants me to use Forteo, an injection that you use for two years.
585414 tn?1288941302 However, there are other NMDA receptor modulates that are specifically targeted to the receptors that are in Phase II FDA study and will be available in standard pill format like all medications and will be able to take as primary (stand alone antipsychotics). Many companies are researching them but Eli Lilly has two promising ones. Here is a standard article on one of them: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/03/business/03drug.html?_r=1 Its not just the side effect profile.
4385446 tn?1353798268 s a connection there, but again, the notion that serotonin causes mental illness is mostly an invention of Eli Lilly when they came out with Prozac many years ago. Since messing with serotonin doesn't cure any mental illness but only offers some symptomatic relief, that theory appears to have been a marketing lie. Now, remember, cholesterol isn't bad for you, only some kinds are bad for you.
Avatar m tn Serotonin is not tied at all to depression. This was a lie spread by Eli Lilly when they first introduced Prozac. By now this is common knowledge.
