smoking

Avatar m tn But we all know that smoking has its negative effects in the body and the lungs is the part that usually gets affected more when we smoke. Hopefully it doesn't harm yours since you said you're just smoking occasionally. But if you really want to get better, you will never go back to that bad habit of smoking again. You can consider e-cig as a better and healthier alternative to smoking instead.

Avatar m tn I've read many studies on the research of marijuana on the lungs, brain, heart, etc. From my findings, I have found that moderate smoking poses little risk to the body. While I've ready pretty consistent reports on marijuana effects on the heart and brain, I read different articles about marijuana on the lungs everyday.

Avatar m tn I am still undiagnosed and as it seems will not be any time soon, even if I have a lot of symptoms. What I wanted to ask is, I have read that smoking can cause more often relapsing or going into progressive form of disease. I am ex smoker considering cigarettes (commercial ones which you inhale in lungs), but I occasionally smoke Cuban cigar which you do not inhale but you just puff into your mouth and out. I cannot find anything for them.

Quitting helps stop the damaging effects of tobacco on your appearance including: • Premature wrinkling of the skin • Bad breath • Stained teeth • Gum disease • Bad smelling clothes and hair • Yellow fingernails Kicking the tobacco habit offers benefits that you'll notice immediately and some that will develop gradually over time. These rewards can improve your day-to-day life immensely.
Avatar n tn So I visited my local Doctor (General Practitioner - GP) who - based on my age, smoking history (equivalent to 50+ pack years), symptoms, and physical examination - suspected Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and probably caused by Emphysema brought on by smoking. I have no history of Bronchitis or Asthma. She sent me to my local Hospital that same day for a Chest XRay and was due to see her a week later. In the meantime she prescribed me a BronchoDilator Reliever to manage symptoms.
Avatar n tn Marijuana smoke contains some of the same ingredients in tobacco smoke that can cause emphysema and cancer. In addition, many marijuana users also smoke cigarettes; the combined effects of smoking these two substances creates an increased health risk. Marijuana smoke has been found to contain more cancer-causing agents than is found in tobacco smoke.
Avatar f tn I do know that cigarette smoke temporarily immobilizes the cilia in your lungs, which generally do the job of sweeping out the junk from your lungs. I can see the shortness of breath being due to the extra mucous being stuck in your lungs. However if this doesn't clear up say by 8 weeks, then perhaps it would be an idea to see your doctor, as there maybe an underlying lung condition. Especially if it really starts to interfere with your every day life.
Avatar m tn Hello, I am 16 years of age and I smoke marijuana every single schoolnight, and on weekends. I started smoking about 3 years ago, and have been smoking almost every day for a year and a half. What could be possible negative effects, is what I am wondering. It does not effect my work ethic, Ive gotten one C on a report card in two years. I love skateboarding, and stay active doing this every day that is possible. And I absolutely love to smoke weed, by myself, every night.
Avatar f tn Your lungs, after a full year of being smoke free may now be more sensitive than ever to the irritant effects of smoke and it is possible that you may have experienced some bronchial spasm, to account for your shortness of breath. The timing of your return to smoking and the onset of shortness after, but not before, smoking make this a very likely possibility.
Avatar n tn COPD is Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which a chronic disease and causes symptoms of cough, breathlessness and wheezing. The commonest cause for COPD is smoking. The lungs age with smoking as in comparison to the person’s age. If you stop smoking at this point, the lungs are not damaged any further, though the damage that has already been done cannot be reversed. So, giving up smoking would be first step towards controlling COPD.
Avatar m tn First off call your doctor. Chewing tobacco is just as bad as smoking, if not worse. It could be your lungs clearing out, but it could be the juice from the chew getting into your lungs. So call your doctor just to be safe.

6763842 tn?1385390664 Some meds can make your lungs feel heavy and hard to use. I would look at your medications and look on the internet at the possible side effects, then mention it to your Doctor.
Avatar f tn I stopped smoking for almost a year, unfortunatly I started back. About two or three months after stopping I started coughing a lot and having trouble breathing. My lungs were trying to get all the 'crapout' from years of smoking. It shouldn't last long, your lungs are probably just trying to repair themselves. Congrates!!!
Avatar m tn This is a condition wherein there is destruction of tissue supporting the alveoli, which ultimately results in loss of elasticity of lung tissue and chronic symptoms of dyspnea (difficulty in breathing). Emphysematous lungs typically appear in CT or x-rays as hyperinflated regions. Cigarette smoking is the usual cause of the destruction in lung tissue which results in emphysema. If you smoke, now is a good time to stop, since doing so would arrest the progression of the emphysema.
