dha

7062279 tn?1388370086 DHA is in fish oil, and it's for baby's brain development. Some women don't like fish, or won't eat it because they're afraid of the mercury content, but the DHA in capsure form is mercury free, and has a lot of really good benefits for you and baby (if you weren't getting DHA from the pills, or from eating lots of fish, baby would just take the DHA in your body and use that, but you use it too, so you'd be in short supply).
Avatar m tn Is there a difference in the amount of vitamins a pill gives out as opposed to a gummy vitamin? The nature made w/ dha are so difficult to swallow.
Avatar m tn The study, published online in the Journal of Nutrition, was one of the first to directly compare the effects of two of the omega-3 fatty acids often cited for their nutritional value, DHA and EPA. In research with laboratory animals, it found that EPA had comparatively little effect on preventing the fibrosis, or scarring, that's associated with NASH. However, DHA supplementation reduced the proteins involved in liver fibrosis by more than 65 percent.
Avatar m tn After pooling and reviewing studies using a total of 1,000 mg to 6,000 mg of EPA and DHA, those in which EPA was 60% or more of the total showed a highly significant improvement, whereas those that were less than 60% EPA did not.

I would just go get some if u want but wouldn't worry about it many woman don't take it.. or their prenatals and their babies r fine!

1386249 tn?1303092096 My OB stressed to me last week how important it is to keep taking them, but prenatal vitamins side effects are the least of her concerns. She did say 1 in 200 women over 35 will have a baby with a disability because of the age. Even a regular multi-vitamin gives me side effects. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn The folic acid in prenatals is most important within the first couple of months as the brainstem is forming to prevent against severe birth defects. Pick some up today and start taking them today.
Avatar f tn I bought some prenatal vitamins and they came in a pack with DHA vitamins. Does anyone know what they are or if they are ok to take??
1192727 tn?1282735542 It is found in cold water fatty fish and fish oil supplements, along with eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Vegetarian sources of DHA come from seaweed. DHA is essential for the proper functioning of our brains as adults, and for the development of our nervous system and visual abilities during the first 6 months of life. In addition, omega-3 fatty acids are part of a healthy diet that helps lower risk of heart disease.

Avatar f tn Okay so my current prenatal vitamin does not have Dha in it...is it possible for me to take a Dha vitamin in conjunction with my prenatal vitamin?...if so what is a good brand to take?
Avatar f tn So my dr gave me 4 different prenatal vitamins to choose from, after reading up on all of them and taking them I choose Nestabs DHA but medicaid hadn't sent my insurance card so I bought gummy prenatal vitamins from GNC. They make me sick so I stopped taking them and finally got my "choosen" prenatals, as it turns out they make me sick also. About 6 months ago I bought generic prenatal vitamins from Dollar General because I was going to take them to get help getting pregnant.
Avatar n tn Gel caps have less fillers and dissolve quickest so you will absorb them quicker. I also take an extra 400 mcg of folic acid to equal the amount that in the prescribed kind. These have never made me sick. The tablets your can taste the vitamins I don't taste anything with these. I recommend highly recommend them. They are inexpensive too. My doc said they are perfect. I trust everything that man says. He's a great doc.
Avatar f tn Does ur prenatal vitamins have dha? Is it ok to take them tablets with dha? The one i take doesn't have it but im trying to get gummies to substitute but all gummies seem to have dha.
467126 tn?1283144858 t be undesirable just during pregnancy, but at any time. DHA has been in use as a cosmetic ingredient in the U.S. since 1960 and no problems have ever been reported concerning DHA penetrating the skin, or causing problems during pregnancy. The reason the concern remains is that advances have been made in the cosmetic industry in developing ingredients that help other ingredients to penetrate the skin better. This applies not only to sunless tanners but moisturizers and other products.
334776 tn?1249968581 so my ob gave me like 5 diff kinds of trials of prenatal vite's.....well, i gave my mom the single capsule ones, and kept the 3 tha thad the double doses(the ones with stoll softeners)...so i'm on my 3rd and final pack......and i've noticed, the last 2 have stool softeners all right, i go like 3 or so times a day!!!! why is that? i thought it would "ease" BM's, not bring em on repeatedly??? the only one he gave me that didnt do that was duet/dha.....
566175 tn?1278430472 Maybe my OB prescribes cheapo vitamins...lol. But the ingredients and amount of each is exactly the same in my prescription vitamins as in the Target brand. I asked my MD about generic vitamins, and he said that in most cases they are exactly the same and are often manufactured by the same companies as the name brands.
Avatar f tn Gummy vitamins are great for me! Sometimes I take one of my kids Flinstones vitamins, they're tasty too! Swallowing pills makes me gag in pregnancy and the iron in prenatals make me constipated. My midwife says gummies and Flinstones are just fine. They equal the same amount of folic acid. And I get plenty of iron in my diet because I eat A LOT!
688450 tn?1259468734 i think they are really still researching all of that.. i know i take 300mg of DHA with my prenatal (its vegetable/plant derived i believe). I know taking too much can caue the blood to thin, but that was a good thing in my case ( we found i had a blood clotting disorder). and as pamela said.. it does apparnetly help with brain development! I would also ask your dr..
Avatar f tn There is sufficient evidence supporting the use of DHEA in the treatment of adrenal insufficiency, depression, induction of labor, and systemic lupus erythematosus. No studies on the long-term effects of DHEA have been conducted. DHEA can cause higher than normal levels of androgens and estrogens in the body, and theoretically may increase the risk of prostate, breast, ovarian, and other hormone-sensitive cancers.
