Amoxicillin isn't the best choice at all for a UTI based on the common bacteria that causes UTI's. Every infection is caused by a specific strain of bacteria. Some antibiotics are going to work better on different strains of bacteria.

Avatar f tn No. Amoxicillin (even in large doses) will not cause a termination of pregnancy. It's a pregnancy category B drug certified by the US FDA which means it's a safe best to take during pregnancy. In higher doses, it may cause some side effects such as diarrhea etc. If a termination is planned, it is very important to visit a proper gynecologist, who can decide the best option depending on a variety of factors including mother's age, how far the pregnancy has progressed etc.

Avatar f tn After I got it drained my dentist put me on 4,000mg of Amoxicillin a day becasue I had to get rid of the infection and the swelling had to continue to go down before he extracted the tooth. In my opinion I feel your husband is on proper treatment. However I'm uncertain about the effects of it being long term and the possibility of blood being in his semen.

702036 tn?1259539116 Have you taken amoxicillin successfully in the past? In that case, I can't see it being a problem during tx. Some people do have bad side effects from it. My younger son broke out in a crazy red rash from head to toe when he was little but some liquid benadryl calmed it down. We changed to something else but I don't remember what. You may want to have some benadryl handy, just in case.
Avatar f tn Since the autoimmune effects result in many of the observable signs/symptoms, the usual response is to place the patient on immune-suppressing drugs to control the symptoms. However, if she does have an undiagnosed chronic infection, this may do little in the long run to reverse the clinical condition, requiring the patient to stay on immune-suppressing drugs. There have been other posts in this section on some possible alternatives to just using immune suppression to control symptoms.

Avatar m tn ve taken the full course of your antibiotics, presuming you are able and have no deterring side effects, it is wise to take a weeks worth of a probiotic supplement (like yogurt, but in pill form) that is enteric coated so to survive your stomach acid. That will put your digestion and body back in balance. Good luck.
Avatar m tn There are only antibiotics that affect the replication of different species of bacteria. In the case of tb, for example, there are 16,000 varients of the bacteria. There are bacteria that are anaerobic and those that are not. There gram positive and gram negative. As for the side effects file a drug reaction form at the FDA site. There are many different reactions to what are similar antibiotics.
Avatar n tn Allergic reactions to antibiotics do not typically manifest as dizziness or fogginess, but rather rash, itching, angioedema (swelling of the mouth, and in severe cases the airway). Corticosteroids can lead to several side effects including a sense of fogginess (and in others a sense of euphoria/insomnia), typically high rather than low blood pressure, and other side effects (even one dose of high doses of steroids can lead to acute confusion in older adults).
Avatar n tn I was recently in the exact same position, i prescribed a 5 day course of amoxycillin by the dentist who was aware of my pregnancy and assured me it was safe to take, pain and infection gone and my baby is fine :) I'm at 28 weeks. Ask a doc as opposed to a nurse, no offence to nurses but GPs have a better understanding of prescribing.
Avatar n tn Just in case, you can always get one more test, if they both come back negative, then I would double his bet. Your period is not as good of an indicator of your pregnancy as a test. Then in about two to three weeks, if you have not had your period, you can test once more. If it comes back negative, then you really shouldn't be pregnant. If the tests come back negative, but you are still experiencing different symptoms, then you can see your regular doctor or gynecologist.
Avatar f tn Doxycycline is not related to amoxicillin and sulfa drugs as it belongs to a different category of drugs(tetracyclines).Side effects of doxycycline are headache, dizziness, blurred vision, body aches, flu symptoms, skin rashes, chest tightness, respiratory difficulty, nausea, vomiting etc. I strongly advise you to ask your daughter to stop taking doxycycline so that no life threatening anaphylaxis occurs.
