Avatar n tn Hello, In most cases of eczema no one treatment will be effective. Medical research shows that the most effective treatment plan for eczema — regardless of type — involves using a combination of therapies to treat the skin and making lifestyle changes(prevention of triggers and application of lots of moisturizers) to control flare-ups. Doing so tends to increase effectiveness and reduce side effects from medications.
Avatar n tn Hello, Apart from steroids which is basic treatment for eczema, topical emmolients to prevent moisture loss from the skin can be used because Eczema can be exacerbated by dryness of the skin. If the eczema is more severe, phototherapy (a type of treatment that uses light therapy) or systemic (circulates throughout the body) medication like oral steroids may be prescribed but they are not used in children.
Avatar n tn The first step should be to speak with your physician to determine if he/she has exhausted all diagnosis/treatment efforts and if Eczema is the correct diagnosis. If that is the case then you and your doctor should consider consultation with a Dermatologist, ideally one with an avid interest in this disease, at the nearest University Medical Center.
Avatar m tn My wife suffers from eczema and is particularly affecting her palms of hands to the point that her skin is cracking. It is extremely itchy and she has sought medical attention with a dermatologist but the medication prescribed is ineffective. Anyone have this type of condition? Any alternatives?
Avatar n tn Another possibility is that it could be due to irritation to the skin from the use of certain lotions and hand soaps. Eczema is a form of chronic dermatitis (rash).Allergic reaction is one of the important causes of eczema. Psoriasis is a long-term (chronic) skin problem that causes skin cells to grow too quickly, resulting in thick, white, silvery, or red patches of skin. It is useful to apply a hand cream that offers barrier protection and moisturizing effect.
Avatar f tn Treatment is with glucocorticoid (a corticosteroid steroid) ointments, creams or lotions. They do not cure eczema, but are highly effective in controlling or suppressing symptoms in most cases. Since Alcortin contains anti-bacterial, anti-fungal as well as steroid medications it would be safe to use this to treat the condition with this. ref:http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar n tn The symptoms described indicate eczema as a likely condition. Since you have a family history of eczema, you should consult a dermatologist for the exact diagnosis and treatment of the underlying cause. Sometimes tests of allergy panel or skin biopsy are conducted to confirm the diagnosis. Treatment options include topical corticosteroids.

Avatar m tn Dermatitis is often treated by glucocorticoid (a corticosteroid steroid) ointments, creams or lotions. They do not cure eczema, but are highly effective in controlling or suppressing symptoms in most cases. In severe cases, oral corticosteroids such as prednisolone or injections such as triamcinolone injections may also be prescribed. You may try application of calamine on the affected site. Avatar f tn t flake and responds to unscented lotions and other treatments for dry skin and eczema but also is worsened by these products. Changing laundry detergents, soaps, lotions etc has not helped me. It also appears in any season and away from animals.
Avatar f tn She has used almost all over the counter creams and lotions and countless perscription ones also. She also has had celulitus several times with this. No one can figure out what the real problem is or anything to help. Our fear is if this continues she may develop an infection so bad it can't be cleared up at all. Any advice would be appreciated.

Avatar m tn It cracks alot and has what looks like tiny pockets under some spots of the dry area that eventually leak fluid. the fluid is very low in amount and clear. I used an eczema cream with cortizone that didnt help during the 1st 2 months. went to normal lotions to keep it moist and still no help. The lotions are recomended for allergies and contain no perfumes or scents. I dont have a whole lot of time to see a dermitologist but i may have to if i dont get any answers or treatment options.
Avatar f tn However it is not possible for the rash to start one month later and spread. The rash could be due to cosmetics, creams, lotions, soaps etc. It can also be due to lupus. Eczema and psoriasis are the other possibilities. It can also be fungal. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage without examining the rash. Consult a skin specialist for further diagnosis and treatment. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
