Common Questions and Answers about Dosage of augmentin for dogs

augmentin

Avatar f tn I test my own blood and adjust my dosage of warfarin. Usually I'm right in range 2.5 to 3.5 (2 art heart valves). About 6 to 8 weeks ago, I took augmentin for 10 days, 2 weeks ago, I took another antibiotic for 5 days. Since then, my PT/INR has been too low, 2.0. My diet and meds have stayed the same. I've been increasing my dose, yet it's still too low. Is it normal for this change? Please see my profile! Can it indicate my lupus activity?
Avatar n tn So using your formula of 1.4 mgs per lb would mean i should give him 168 mgs once per day. My vet has me giving him 2-300 mg pills twice a day for a total of 1200 mgs. I called and left a message regarding my concern and that he should double check and get back to me ty for your info.
Avatar f tn I have some ondansetron 8mg for vomiting for me what would be the dosage for a dog that has terrible motion sickness in car
Avatar n tn About a month ago my 26 pound almost 4-year old Boston Terrier started having allergy symptoms (runny nose, watery eyes that led to facial irritation, itching, etc). I called the vet and he said it was okay to give him 25mg benadryl twice a day for allergies. But now I'm wondering, since it's been a few weeks--is it safe to give bendaryl to a dog daily for long periods of time?
Avatar m tn do you know what dosage? I have an unrelated sickness.
Avatar f tn The amount of Zyrtec I was told to give to Akira is only 1/4 of the adult human dosage. This is much smaller than the children's dosage, which is 1/2 of the adult human dosage. I would never ever give medications to Akira without her first seeing her doctor. I do know that no one should ever give Tylenol to their pets. Tylenol is definitely toxic to both dogs and cats. In fact, some of us humans can't even take the stuff.
612551 tn?1450022175 The label provides advice for dogs as well as general farm animals. It prescribed 1 teaspoon per day for dogs over 10 pounds. Any experience/opinions about this approach to increase Pro Biotics in a dog's diet? It may be tasteless and could be sprinkled along with some water on dry kibble I will guess.
Avatar n tn During the 2nd round of Augmentin, complaints of headache and tummyache continued, this time his neck also started hurting and also throat. He was diagnosed with strep throat and put on Cephalexin and the doctor said "wait a week or two for the headaches to subside". By this time it has been 6+ weeks with the headache and we got fed up and took him to another doc. who ordered an MRI.
Avatar f tn it sounds like you had an allergic reaction or OD to the Augmentin. My Mom nearly died from Augmentin. It is a very strong drug and sometimes doctors go over board on the dosage. Don't take anymore. Call your doctor and get a different, less harsh antibiotic.
Avatar n tn Hello I agree with deadgamegrll. I would not recommend taking him off the medications without consulting the Vet because abruptly stopping any medications can be detrimental to his health. It does sound like he is on too high of a dosage. I'm sure examination and testing by his Vet will give the information needed to get his dosage regulated properly.
Avatar f tn Determining a dosage of tramadol for dogs is an exercise in futility. As with people, if the dog has a history of seizures it is important to let your vet know this, and they will likely tell you about alternatives. While the dosage amounts vary from dog to dog, the tramadol dosage for dogs can be put into effect by using the dog’s weight as the determinant. The usual range is .5 - 1.8mg per pound.
Avatar m tn I'm suffering inflammation of the tonsils and taking now augmentin 1g (875mg amoxcillin + 125mg clavulanic acid). Also, i take some antiseptic and anti-inflammatory medication like bradoral 0.5 mg (domiphen bromide ). Also, I take a syrup for common cold and influenza (dosage teaspoonful 5ml which contains 160mg paracetamol, 1mg chlorpheniramine maleate, 15mg pseudoephedrine HCI, and 4.5mg dextromethorphan HBr).
Avatar f tn I started having a diverticulitis flareup about 3 weeks ago with on and off symptoms for about 2 weeks. Becaause of my history of bowel abcess and the fact the symptoms became more constant I was prescribed Augmentin. Now 2 days in I have diarrhea. Should I discontinue the augmentin? If not, what is the best way to treatthe diarrhea?
Avatar n tn Hi. Pure coconut oil (must be pure, for dogs) is a useful supplement for dogs. It can be given with food or (warmed slightly) rubbed into skin, particularly where there are patches of irritated skin or hair loss areas. A small amount goes a long way, so be cautious with it. Too much can lead to diarrhea. It is not particularly useful for fleas, though it will help with any irritated skin caused by fleas.
Avatar f tn *Augmentin -- Standard Augmentin cannot exceed three tablets daily due to the clavulanate, thus is given with amoxicillin, so that the total dose of the amoxicillin component is as listed above for amoxicillin. This combination can be effective when Bb beta lactamase is felt to be significant. *Augmentin XR 1000 -- This is a time-release formulation and thus is a better choice than standard Augmentin. Dose -- 1000 mg q 8 h, to 2000 mg q 12 h based on blood levels.
Avatar f tn 4 days on augmentin 825 for a chronic dental infection (now a bone infection), I started having major swelling in my hands. This is new, I've never had swelling like this. Yesterday my one hand looked freakishly red and swollen. It was so swollen, that when I straightened out my hand (which was difficult), everything turned white, inbetween the redness. Anyway, I tried going off the augmentin (I'm taking it in conjunction with clindamycin), and today I feel much less swollen.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone else has taken Augmentin. I was prescribed it for a double ear infection. Originally I was given acetic acid drops but they aren't working. I plan on calling my OB in the morning to double check. They are pregnancy category B. Although they are thought to be safe not many studies have been done on them. I'm nervous about everything. This is my first pregnancy and I am only 18. Thank you!!
Avatar f tn t know for sure. They may have additives or sweeteners or something which are not good for dogs (Xylitol, for example is toxic for dogs) I don't know obviously, if the shakes have stuff like this in them. Hopefully someone else will post who knows. Again you could ask the vet about this. Have you tried tempting Cookie with a little boiled chicken? Or a little steamed fish? You are right you need to jump-start her appetite if possible.
250701 tn?1320974765 My lung Doctor called me in some augmentin because I have been coughing up thick yellow mucus. I just don't know if I can take it on treatment. Does anyone know??
Avatar f tn I am sorry, but most antibiotics can cause seizures as complications and some like erythromycin and related antibiotics affect the efficacy of seizure medications. But if you need to take antibiotic, augmentin should be ok, but please take a multivitamin B with it. There is no antibiotic (in my knowledge) which can be considered 100% safe, but like I said earlier, the incidence of seizures with augmentin is pretty low. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn She is an outside dog in a kennel, brought her in gave her amoxicilln/augmentin for 5 days and swelling went down, area looked to be a cut on her head oozed and she is now fine.Problem my newfoundland has devolped the same symptoms today and he is also an outside dog in his own kennel alone.Brought him in and started the same antibotics on him and also gave him some benadryl. What could this be ??I have never seen or heard of this before and have had dogs all my life.
Avatar n tn I know we had a Shepard and Husky mix on them for a few years before he died. Our vet recommended them as pain relievers. He had the dog on 8 pills a day, 4 in morning,4 at night. I know the amount startled me too but in dogs, thhey go by weight of the dog, different than people. Our dog had that hip displshia at 5yrs old and had bad joints since the operation. Our vet said safe for dogs. People, no. 8 is too much.
Avatar n tn It has been used for dogs but that is a strong drug often given to Chemo patients. I am not qualified to give advice or dosage on that. It sounds like you should be giving your Vet a call if the dog has a vomiting problem and try to determine the cause.
