Common Questions and Answers about Donepezil and syncope

Avatar f tn Yes, the diagnostics bit can be a bit of a mess. You sort of have to separate it into two things: what can actually be going on, and what different doctors prefer to label it. As for whether the cluster of signs and symptoms that is termed "POTS" is mutually exclusive of the physiological process that is termed "neurocardiogenic syncope" or "vasovagal syncope," the short answer is NO. You can definitely have both going on in the same patient.
1068552 tn?1255133108 Were you seen at the syncope clinic while at Cleveland Clinic? They should have been able to evaluate cough syncope there, I would think. You can find their number here: http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Neurological-Disorders/Dysautonomia-Specialists/show/717?cid=196 (Their contact info is at the bottom of their syncope page, if I remember correctly.) From what little I know of cough syncope, I think it can be related to vasalva maneuver-type changes in chest pressure.
Avatar m tn Besides Clonazepan, Solof, Lorazepan, Divalproex, Citalopran, Donepezil,Divalproex, Enalapril, Carb/Levo tab she started taking Ziprasidone four weeks ago. Please tell me if she should stop taking some of those medications.
Avatar n tn However, if the metoprolol is absolutely necessary for the control of your syncope and there is no other medicine that will suffice you and your doctor may want to look to ways to reduce its adverse effects on your lungs. Two such would be: 1) a reduction in metoprolol dose, and 2) the addition of non cardio-stimulatory asthma medicines to your regimen to counter-act the seeming impact of the metoprolol on your lungs.
Avatar f tn The various causes of syncope are central nervous system ischemia, vasovagal syncope may occur during urination, coughing etc, postural, cardiac syncope, neurological syncope, hypoglycemia, deglutition syncope associated with solids swallowing, cardiac includes cardiac arrhythmias, obstructive cardiac lesions, structural cardiopulmonary disease, sick sinus syndrome etc.
612876 tn?1355514495 by taking a very detailed history all the way back into my early childhood, they were able to determine that I had the narcolepsy BEFORE I had POTS, but the cataplexy only showed up when I started having syncope. It seems that for me, the syncope triggers the cataplexy most of the time; it almost never happens without me fainting first.
Avatar m tn I have been dealing with syncope, migraines, and numbness in the left side of my body for a year and a half now, I get sudden sharp pains in my fingers and bottom of my foot and toes. I get spikes and drops in my blood pressure and will have anywhere from 1-20 syncope episodes a day. I am frequently dizzy and sometimes lose my vision for a few minutes a day as well as my left side mobility. Literaly my left side gets stiff and weak.
Avatar n tn When I feel this way, walking up stairs gives me a forceful heartbeat, shortness of breath, and near syncope. I dont care what anyone says, but anxiety does not cause exertional near syncope, and I will never believe that.. But, my Thalliuam stress test, cardiac CTA, Echocardiogram, CBC, CMP, Liver, Thyroid, BNP all check out normal. Actually, the Thallium test showed anterior/LAD hypokinesis but CTA was normal.
Avatar m tn She is not alcoholically person and never drink in her live. She has heart disease and take atorvastatin for 10 years and also donepezil and ladiomil for 4 years. Since her doctor discover problem with GOT and GPT she stopped taking atorvastatin (3mounts before) because they were suspicious that atorvastatin was reason for this problem but again GOP and GPT increase. Next step was cancer marker (CA19-9 = 34.4, AST = 5.47, CEA=3.22) and virus markers (HBsAg Es = 0.13 negative, Anti-HCV = 0.
577754 tn?1217636310 I'm a 23 year old healthy female normal b/p and hr, normal echo and exam. About 2 months ago I began to have periods of sinus tach and syncope. I would sinus tach up into the 160's and pass out. These episodes have happened about 12-15 times. My cardio had cardionet for 10 days in which I'd tach up as high as 173. No abnornal rhythms going up it was mainly sinus tach. The only other things it did show was pvc, pac, pjc, and sinus arrythmia.
Avatar n tn In the last couple of monthe she has suffered from heart palpitations and a tightening of the throat. Once again we saw a specialist and this time she was diagnosed with an ectopic heartbeat. However when we have gone to make a claim on our medical insurance policy they are refusing to settle as they claim the two illnesses are related and therefore this is a pre-exisiting condition.
Avatar f tn This sounds like dysautonomia (autonomic dysfunction). Dysautonomia is a failure of the autonomic nervous system to regulate certain body functions, such as heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, respiration, digestion. Types of dysautonomia include Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia (IST), Vasovagal syncope, Neurocardiogenic syncope (NCS), Neurally Mediated Hypotension (NMH), mitral valve prolapse and Shy Drager Syndrome.
Avatar m tn Hi There, I was recently diagnoxed with NCS (Vasovagal Syncope) too and am very interested in what you find out. I have just started to try to figure out how I ended up with it. Till now, I've just focused on finding out what it is and trying to find a treatment. My Cardiologist told me Friday that it wasn't something he came across alot which I found surprising. Since I found so much about it, I didn't think it was rare, but I guess ALOT of people don't have it.
Avatar f tn I am wearing a 30 day event monitor and when I lie down is goes crazy. I do have syncope or near syncope, but all other test are normal. Never heard of this before. I am under a lot of stress which could trigger my heart problems.
Avatar f tn If there is no family history and you have no history of syncope, you are at much lower risk and this would explain your drs approach. Start by getting off cold medicine and just chill. I agree with others exercise is really key. If you continue having symptoms go see your doc again,. Good luck.
1526469 tn?1291626911 I read all about the vasoval syncope from that website and it seems like that is what the doctors think I may have, they also put me on metoprolol 12.5mg twice a day. They just say I have low blood pressure and to drink lots of fluids and more salt, but none of them ever came to me and specifically told me the diagnose "hey your problem is this"! That is frustrating! I'm going to see the cardiologist again for a follow up appointment and discuss about my event monitor results.
1551453 tn?1294245067 Hi, I have a similar story. I never had a history of fainting in the past. I'm 24 years old and was sent to the ER after being found unconscious. I remember bits and pieces. I wasn't feeling good and decided to take mucinex because i was having chest congestion. An hour in of the night, my chest was pounding, side of my body was numbness, and loss of vision before I collapse on the floor.
Avatar n tn From the sound of it, though, her Orthostatic Intolerance and Syncope (lightheadedness, low blood pressure, and passing out when she stands up) are medication-induced so the first thing to do is to talk to her doctors about these medications and the side-effects they're causing and see if there are any other options.
Avatar f tn We have read about non-epileptic seizures that are caused by diminished cardiac output, cardiac syncope. What are the chances that this seizure was caused by the bradycardia and not epilepsy? Also how likely is a reoccurence?
Avatar m tn When barley touching the pressure points on his neck it caused him to become dizzy once and dazed another time. I have called all his doctors and they recommend an ear nose and throat specialist. Hopefully they will be able to give us some answers.
Avatar n tn I have syncope also. I have all the slow, fast, skipping, flutters etc. they did all the tests and my heart is strong but i failed my tilt test. There are several types of syncope. I have vaso vagal. My cousin has the more rare POTS. that causes syncope also. She said she failed her tilt several times but wasn't diagnosed with POTS until they did an EEG, laying, sitting, then standing. Ask questions when at the DR for sure. There's not too much info on POTS and a lot of Dr.
