7002065 tn?1443073614 the different state of mind you experience with memantine treatment and the new ways of thinking it creates can make you stumble a little the first time. think of a healing plant or healing open wound. i would be happy to hear other perceptions and experiences with memantine post interferon treatment (or post HCV treatment disease). Only by talking about ouselves we can find aspects that we have in common and maybe that inherites solutions to our current states.

Avatar m tn I need the bupropion for the anxiety associated with Nystagmus, but I know it causes blurred vision and convergence problems. Should I even bother to try memantine? Thanks.
Avatar f tn My wife was recently prescribed Memantine for headaches. She took 5mg nightly for 4 days and during that time she still had a headache, but no side effects. On the 5th day the headaches stopped, but now she's constantly nauseous and woozy. This has been going on for 4 days. Is this just a matter of her body adjusting to the drug?
Avatar f tn Additional studies of the Alzheimer’s medications Exelon® (rivastigmine) and Namenda® (memantine HCl) also did not demonstrate a clear benefit. Some side effects may include stomachor bowel problems, mood changes, and urinary difficulty......" Note: Very interesting section on cognitive issues is found about half way down, well worth reading for tips and tricks, medications etc.
Avatar m tn Besides Clonazepan, Solof, Lorazepan, Divalproex, Citalopran, Donepezil,Divalproex, Enalapril, Carb/Levo tab she started taking Ziprasidone four weeks ago. Please tell me if she should stop taking some of those medications.
455605 tn?1206051065 So, your doctors are actually not wrong when they say they will try a second drug if the first one does not work. Memantine and Donepezil are the two most commonly used drugs. Which one are you using? I would like to go back to 1993 and reassess your situation. I agree with you that AD has been a blanket diagnosis quite often, especially when the health professionals are not used to identify and treat AD.
Avatar m tn She is not alcoholically person and never drink in her live. She has heart disease and take atorvastatin for 10 years and also donepezil and ladiomil for 4 years. Since her doctor discover problem with GOT and GPT she stopped taking atorvastatin (3mounts before) because they were suspicious that atorvastatin was reason for this problem but again GOP and GPT increase. Next step was cancer marker (CA19-9 = 34.4, AST = 5.47, CEA=3.22) and virus markers (HBsAg Es = 0.13 negative, Anti-HCV = 0.
Avatar m tn There is someone on this forum, or the depression forum, who was in a clinical trial with a medication targeting glutamate receptors for bipolar disease and claims to have been cured by it. You can find her posts in the archives, and she should be a good source for you. However, glutamate is considered largely for depression because it is stimulating to the brain, not calming.
Avatar m tn this thread actually brought me to the idea of trying out NMDA (Glutamate) Antagonist Memantine and it really improves my ability to perform tasks by at least 50%! Why not only stay away from Gluten but decrease the overall glutamate amount binding to CNS sites? it works!

514649 tn?1231454520 feeling endured off and on and I really felt it driving or going down the isles of grocery stores etc....very bizzare and I thought I was going crazy. It would come over me like a wave. I used every self help method thinking anxiety attacks....but they were not something that came on suddenly....I would feel weird all day. Needless to say it has made me apprehensive to drive long distances or at high speeds. I was diag with MS in 2003. Optic nerve is okay...
Avatar f tn also can be used to enhance the storage of sensory information (Google it and you will see what it is and what you can do at home with it as well). The method involves asking a patient to identify a designated object from an array of items at increasingly longer intervals. Second, I have never ceased to be amazed at how the brain can find "work arounds" and bypass damaged parts of the brain with time. Sometimes after surgery, clots can form in injured areas.
901222 tn?1399142874 I struggle with a severe form of spinal arthritis. My doctors encourage me to medicate. I don't like to. I tend to slip in and out of dependency according to pain levels and depression about it. I stay far away from oxy and morphine because they are very difficult for people to quit. Vicodin makes me sluggish and sad. I lose connections and sulk in my bed. I just stopped all about a week ago. Feeling a bit better. Still depressed with another RF medical procedure looming. I'm worried.
Avatar m tn She is taking hydralazine 50mg for high BP, Sertraline 25mg for depression, Nitrofur Mac 50mg for UTI, Donepezil 10mg for memory loss, and Novolin for high blood sugar. We also have a PT that comes to her house but that is not really helping.
338416 tn?1420045702 Well, as you all know, I've been taking 5mg of donepezil a day for my cognitive impairment. I'm on #4 today. Interestingly, I feel like I might have had a mini-flare at the beginning of the week (or maybe it was the allergies) - but despite that, my brain feels more 'on.' I'm remembering stuff better, and I'm able to stay on task better. I drove last night, and I felt safer - less distracted, more able to concentrate on driving.
Avatar n tn He said I did not have Alzheimer’s. It helped the memory and cognition difficulties most and my wife said in general I was better than but not fine. I still take it but its efficacy is waning. To make a long story short, additional issues developed over the interim from then. One of my problems is I don’t know what is related to whatever is wrong with me and what is coincidental.

307874 tn?1242755798 It is just so confusing and depressing. I have been under alot of stress this year and just losing my dad and heard something last month that is very stressful. Could stress make it worse? My husband says that we can be talking about soemthing and I will say something that makes no sense at all. I have a problem talking in a conversation with my family because they all of a sudden will look at me strange and I know I didnt say the right thing and cant remember what I was saying.
338416 tn?1420045702 In sum, the predominate features of her neuropsychological profile are moderately impaired selective and divided attention, cognitive flexibility, storage of visual information, visual discrimination, visual attention to details, verbal fluency, and concept formation, and mild impairment in processing speed and memory processes for auditory information. There is evidence for mild decline in intellect into the average range from a premorbidly high average level.
Avatar f tn Compared with tacrine, donepezil, and rivastigmine, HupA has better penetration through the blood-brain barrier, higher oral bioavailability, and longer duration of AChE inhibitory action. HupA has been found to improve cognitive deficits in a broad range of animal models. HupA possesses the ability to protect cells against hydrogen peroxide, beta-amyloid protein (or peptide), glutamate, ischemia and staurosporine-induced cytotoxicity and apoptosis.
Avatar m tn Yes it's true - I'm really reaching some kind of edge again. even considered checking out this retreat but the cost was pro-hib-itive. Plus I don't really 100% believe their total philosophy, and I've already dealt with so much of what they talk about. I really do think my problems are bigger than just needing to find a life lesson, and "doing happy" etc. Lastly, I've given in - I'm sick of sleeping my life away so I've started taking....pseudoephidrine...
Avatar m tn I have been on a statin drug for about 15 years and ran for exercise until about 5 years ago and all I can conclude from my history is I have benefited from the statin drug via low cholesterol and not blockages and weight control and general high physical quality of life from the exercise. I'm 11 years younger than you, and I no longer run, but that is because of atrial fibrillation, not because of muscle damage due to anything other than age.
