Avatar n tn I was told by a vet that my dog will still be able to breed for a little while after he is neutered. Is it just until the sperm dies that had already been released from the testicles or did I understand this wrong?
Avatar m tn since about two or three days after the operation the dog is completely wet in his own urine. after he finished the last course of antibiotics the vet opened him up and checked there was no problems with the operation he had performed. He was satisfied with his work and sent the dog home with us again the next day. however the dog is no better he is constantly wet and has not appetite or energy. i have no idea what to do now as he smells horrible and is so out of character.
Avatar n tn Our 4 year old Old English Sheepdog has been throwing up regularly for a few months. She always had a sensitive stomach and tended to throw up if she ate something other than her food or if she drank her water too fast but now she is throwing up yellow bile a couple times a week on an empty stomach. About a month ago she coughed up blood so we took her to the vet.
Avatar f tn I'm in the exact same position you're in, Emanuelle. I have a Boston, he's now 14 months old and I've resisted neutering him. I don't see any benefit to the male dog - whatsoever - in neutering them, but it does keep people from accidentally breeding. It also helps with "marking" the furniture in the house - which is a benefit to the owner.
Avatar f tn I have a 2 year old great dane that i got from a friend she said he is healthy now he did have parvo but she said it is gone. since we have gotten the dog everytime he eats he throws up. we have his dog food bowl raised and water bowl raised. this does not seem to help. we are feeding the dogs pedigere dog food.
1120748 tn?1259272014 There is also a chemical neutering, which involves an injection that renders the male sterile, however this is usually used when a dog is in training for something and actual surgery would put a halt to that training for a while until the dog is healed. Normally, the chemical neutering is followed up with an actual surgical castration when the dog is able to take the time to recuperate. Hope this helps!
Avatar m tn My dog is 12 yrs old Australian Shellie cocker spaniel mix she is throwing up a lot of green bile and her back legs are not as strong she can't walk up the stairs without help she is not eating but will drink
Avatar n tn Welcome...What size dog, what size is the blister & is it oozing any liquid or substance? If so, what color?
223237 tn?1302188391 I completely agree with Ginger, this is a show of dominance and nothing sexual. Neutering may help, however if a dog is THAT dominant, he may still continue the behavior even after he's neutered. The good thing is that the neutering SHOULD make it easier to break him of the behavior if he doesn't stop it on his own. Ginger gave you great advice about not giving him any attention at all unless he is behaving properly.
Avatar f tn Some dogs can have sleep aggression but that is more a scenario of a dog being disturbed when they are sleeping, not sure why he would be aggressive after he wakes up. This sounds more like a behavioral issue. I can't understand why your vet would suggest mating him or removing anal glands. Dies he have problems with his anal glands? That can be done but can have complications if a Vet doesn't do them often and "can" cause nerve damage not to mention it being painful.
Avatar f tn My (now 1 year old) Shih Tzu still has digestive issues off & on. But today I'm wondering about something. My son was playing with her with one of her favorite squeaky toys and all of a sudden she stopped and threw up. There was no liquid it was kind of like mush. Anyway, the thing is she ate breakfast at 7 AM. So this happened 5 hours after eating. Why wasn't that food digested and long gone by then? She usually eats 7:00, 3:30, 9:30, roughly.
Avatar n tn If your dog is neutered, it will stop the levels of testosterone, which could cause prostate swelling and prostate cancer too. It would take a while to max. effect because he'd still have SOME testosterone in his system for a bit. But it would be a quicker option than medication. But it would be a good option only if he's generally in good fitness and condition for his age. The anaesthetic might stress him if he has heart or lung problems, or some other health problem.
Avatar n tn When we flew on a plane from Germany to the states my dog was urinating blood after the plane ride. We took him to an emergency vet and they tested him for kidney stones and urinary tract infection. He had trace amounts of infection so he was prescribed antibiotics but my dog still urinates blood after running and after marking. I have taken him to the vet again and they cannot find an answer. He Ph levels are perfect, no kidney stones, and no infection.
Avatar n tn What should I do, he is 12 and happy, would neutering him be a good option? or leaving him alone happy? Will the prostate get bigger I am so perplexed at what to do any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated and any experience anyone has gone through with the same issues please share. The vet said "The hope is that when we neuter him the prostate shrinks back down, but if it doesn't then we'd want to sample it (called an aspirate) that we'd do ultrasound guided.
Avatar f tn It is typical of the bulbous glands to come up suddenly, quite large and hard and then to disappear soon after. A lump on the base of the penis which seems quite scary, then suddenly disappears, to come up again another time is almost always bulbous glands. The fact that he's been neutered....right, how long ago was he neutered? If fairly recently, then there is plenty of testosterone still in his system and may be for a few weeks yet -to cause sexual stimulation like that.
Avatar n tn He has recently bitten my boyfriend and I just dont know what to do with him because i refuse to have an aggressive dog especially one of his size (115 lbs). Will neutering resolve this bad behavior or is it to late? He has been rcently treated for an ear infection would this explain his aggression? His ear is pretty much cleared up now though.
764201 tn?1245616265 Every morning when waking, after eating, after playing, after chewing, before going to bed at night. This establishment of schedule IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS YOU CAN DO. Some people find that Crate Training, then Crating the dog when unsupervised works very well. I have done this for years and have very little problems with 4 competing dogs in the house. Google Crate Training and learn all you can about this.
362692 tn?1248639193 Yes, neutering should help, but it can take many weeks after neutering for the humping to appreciably decrease. Get him neutered and vetted appropriately. Snaps to you for adopting this new dog!
Avatar f tn I got mt dog Chloe when she was 9 weeks old and she was already spayed. I was just wondering if there are any known side effects of spaying too early, and if so, what are they?
Avatar f tn The one doing the humping wants to be the alpha dog. Mine do it still after being fixed. Good Luck!!
Avatar f tn As far as neutering your dog, I would try to find out for sure if cancer is present before subjecting him to neutering surgery. Prostate cancer in dogs isn't like prostate cancer in humans, and the outlook is usually quite grim. If it IS cancer, I would rather spend my time making him comfortable and letting him enjoy his life rather than having him recuperating from a surgery. Again, I am not trying to frighten you, but like I said, blood coming from the penis is never a good sign.
293157 tn?1285873439 Hi there, I have a 13 year old Pekeneese? for the past week, he has been throwing up, clear liquid. about 1/4 cup..I don't weigh it.. just from what it looks like.. everyday.. he is eating and moving around, but does go and hide under the end tables which is different. He seems more nervous then normal too. But he still will play when his dad comes home from work. So I see a change in him and he throws up more then he used too. I'm not sure what this could be?
Avatar n tn We just adopted a 13 week old puppy through a rescue group, he was already neutered at a very young age of 10 weeks, and we are concerned that he may have complications from his neutering. A week ago we noticed a small purple bump on the incision site that didn't seem to really bother him, but now a week later it has trippled in size and is dark purple. It was bleeding and pussing the other night, so I cleaned it with warm water and a paper towel.
