Common Questions and Answers about Does levemir need to be refrigerated

levemir

Avatar m tn t want to get into a big discussion on whether or not it is available. I just want to know if it NEEDS to be refrigerated. Does it? What if you don't keep it cool? I don't want to get into taking a med that needs this kind of special treatment because it opens the door for lessened potency, of course. Could someone get to the bottom of this refrigerate or not Thyrolar issue?
Avatar n tn You wife needs both the long acting insulin (Levemir) to be taken twice a day, and she will also need a fast acting insulin (such as novalog, Humalog or aphidra) to be taken just before eating so that it can 'cover' the food she eats (and with dose adjusted based on how much carbs and protein she eats).
Avatar f tn s a multi dose vial it does need to be refrigerated after opening. Sooo, which is it?? The vial contains 4 weeks worth of medication for me.
Avatar n tn all day long (24 hours). When you eat, you need the fast acting insulin like Novolog to act quickly to cover the meal. For some, Lantus and Levemir act the same. For me, Levemir seemed to work better in that it provided more consistency to my blood sugar levels. I like Levemir. I have switched to 2 shots per day (morning and night) instead of just taking the 1 shot at night, because the 1 shot at night may not cover the 24 hours.
Avatar n tn The dosage depends on BG and amount of carbs to be eaten and his particular sensitivity or resistance to insulin.
Avatar n tn Hi, If this low dose of lantus twice daily is working for you without any problems, there is no reason to change it. Lantus is written as once daily but many doctors(including myself) and patients split the dose because even though it is supposed to be "peakless", it is not for some people. At low doses it works especially well as a split dose. Levemir can be used instead, and is more commonly written as twice daily.
154668 tn?1290115995 Does that mean long term storage or does that mean that we need to keep them cold if we go out for the afternoon?
Avatar n tn RL has given you sage advice. I agree with it. If changing the time of your injection according to your doctor's suggestion (after you talk to him) doesn't help, you may want to ask your doctor if there is a type of insulin that will match your body's routine better. There are many available types, and all have slightly different peak action and length of duration times. There may be one that matches your own body's clock better. We wish you the best.
Avatar n tn m on novolog and levemir (levemir is just at bedtime).
Avatar m tn The older insulins, particularly humalin-R do not have a flat action profile. they still have a peak and one has to be aware of this - though it can be very useful in addressing the dawn phenomenon. When I was taking Humalin-R I would typically go low by late morning. Compared to insulins like Levemir (Insulin Detemir), which have a fairly flat profile for their duration of action.
Avatar f tn If you continue to be ill with symptoms that feel like the flu or vomiting, you need to go to the ER, because you could be suffering from DKA which happens from prolonged numbers that high and it can be very dangerous. Drinking water helps. Just keep working at getting it down and it should start to improve soon as you are back on the Levemir.
Avatar f tn How are your BG Numbers, Many have found that Levemir does not last a full 24 hours.
257175 tn?1204161973 ve used ovidrel and novarel over the past two months, and ovidrel was the only one that needed to be refrigerated, because it was pre-mixed. Novarel just needed to be kept at room temperature. Once it's mixed, though, and if you don't use it right away, then it should be refrigerated...but who does that? LOL! Best of luck!
Avatar f tn t know what could be wrong and i am starting to get worried. Sugesstions and advice are very much needed. Thank you.
Avatar m tn Thanks Can-do-man. I see some posts on another thread about the need for boce to be refrigerated, too. Is that right? What happens if you forget and it's been out for a while? Does anyone out there know the pill count per day for telaprevir, too?
20693191 tn?1503884408 Hi.I have a question. I've been a diabetic Type 1 for close to 45 years. Recently my endocrinologist suggest I use Lantus. She thought it would be better for me. I also use Humalog. She started me with 48 units of Lantus, at night. I quickly noticed that it was too high of a dosage. I was waking up in the middle of the night hypoglycemic. The lowest was 2.9 and even then, in the morning, sometimes at 3.5-4.0. She decided to bring it down to 40. Not low enough.
915277 tn?1252573113 but, I also feel, where there is smoke, can fire be far behind?? I, myself, am thinking of changing to Levemir, at least until the experts decide what to do. Only because, I have enough health problems, if I can save myself some anguish, I think I will...What's your take on this issue??
9369350 tn?1403514319 What drugs are you taking 3 times a times? The only medication that needs to be refrigerated is interferon, not the ribavirin.
Avatar f tn I'm beyond irritated!! I am 12 weeks pregnant with our 3rd baby together,(my fourth). I am working 60 plus hours a week at a refrigerated warehouse. Only off on Sundays. My boyfriend stays home with the kids while I work. When I get home every night I still have to get dinner together, served and put away plus bathing the kids and getting them to bed. I'm beyond exhausted. So tonight I was going to bed early. I left him to get the kids in bed.
Avatar f tn I am done with tx Saturday!!! So excited to be done! I have two unopened, refrigerated 300 mg neupogen shots I am willing to ship to anyone who might need it. I know if you don't have insurance coverage for it it can be expensive. Happy to donate!
