Common Questions and Answers about Diovan and potassium supplements

diovan

Avatar f tn I am now taking Magnesium supplements, and drinking Green smoothies every day, but because I take Diovan for high blood pressure I'm wondering about the effects of too much potassium in my blood stream. Any thoughts on this?
422425 tn?1307992990 I am on a prescribed Potassium tablet morning and night plus the lasix, spironolactone and Diovan for my high BP. Needless to say I spend a lot of time in the lav.
369861 tn?1306275686 I advise the dr what took place with the ER and my primary. The endo doctor then took me off the Diovan HCT and started me on Diovan so that i could take a renin and aldesterone tests. Does the potassium have anything to do with the thyroid and why did the endo take me off all diuretics to take the two tests. With not being on the diuretics, my body was retaining fluid rapidly that I started to look like the pillsbury dough girl.
369861 tn?1306275686 The emergency room took me off the HCT due to my potassium level being so low and the endo dr. took me off the diovan hct and just gave me a prescip for diovan without the diuretic. I am miserable as heck. I'm wheezing, cant sleep and I have to wait at least one more week to take the renin and aldersterone test. Please tell me there is hope for me.
369861 tn?1306275686 Oddly, when I was put on diuretics prior to hospital stay, my heart enlarged, urination qaudrupled, and I flushed all the potassium and salt out of my system, and passed out with an over working heart. While at the ER, the ER doc said I had congestive heart failure, the 2nd morning, I had a stress test, passed with ease, then during the week a heart cath, no abnormalities. After leaving the hospital, I visit my cardiologist that performed serious of test, ultrasound, echo, etc....
Avatar n tn I dont remember what it is in bananas though - potassium I think?... and as a coffee fan, I have noticed a direct link to an increase in palps if I do indulge, not only in caffeine but even if I just eat a larger quantity of food, so I "graze" on small snack size portions now and have found that helpful with the palps... might help you too.
Avatar m tn Will taking potassium supplements help with the effects of low hgb. My hgb was at 8.6 two days ago and I can't take procrit. My riba is reduced, but I feel very week and out of breath as of last night. I know several people have gone lower then 8.6, so I assume even though it feels terrible it's safe. I was at 9.3 earlier in the week and it felt much better.
219609 tn?1210348114 I'm taking a water tablets for my high calcium problem, and doctor did not tell me this would cause a low postasssium problem, and getting more tired and weaker by the day, and the dizzy spells are returning, so hoping taking Mag, and Potassium supplements would help,,and experience here
Avatar f tn That did help but now I am wondering if I am taking too much potassium. I starting concentrating on foods with potassium such as bananas and also increased my supplement to two a day instead of one. Now, lately, on top of the fatigue I was already having (from other issues?) I have been feeling swimmy-headed and having a lot of headaches as well as increased feeling of exhaustion. I am wondering if I am taking in too much potassium now.
492869 tn?1285018933 Are you currently taking any vitamins and/or supplements to treat your Dysautonomia symptoms? Elaborate, or discuss your response below if you will like.
Avatar n tn Mild hypokalemia could be treated with oral potassium chloride supplements and nutritional supplements like bananas, oranges, tomatoes, green leafy vegetables etc. The tachycardia at night is most likely due to anxiety and stress of an upcoming cardiologist appointment. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn My dentist found elevated bp at a routine appointment, which I thought was strange, since I had a complete cardiological workup in January (echocardiogram, holter monitor, 24 hr monitor, ekg, stress/echo test, blood work, carotid doppler) and a ct scan and u/s of the abdomen and pelvis. The only thing showing up on the ct was diverticulosis which i've had for years. I have also had gallstones since 1995 when I was pregnant, and they really never bothered me.
304450 tn?1192686333 These supplements vastly improve EF and quality of life with CHF. He has a website or you can go to Amazon, com and buy it off the internet, then go to www.iherb.com (the best place!!!) and order the supplements. I don't trust meds and these supplements have proven results. Also, kenkeith is right. You have to know the underlying cause but these supplements help no matter what the cause is...
10483820 tn?1410466172 Currently maxed out on Diovan and Toprol. Experiencing from 170/79 to 192/90 readings in mornings. My PCP has added Imdur: 2/ 30mg @ night with 320 mg Diovan; and 1/ 30mg Imdur with 200mg Toprol in the morning. I have a 45 year history of valvular heart desease having had 4 open heart surgeries starting at age 28. Resulting in 2 mechanical valves and a pacemaker. Believe me, I am not complaining and feel pretty good.
Avatar f tn Use natural foods, eat a couple of bananas a day. My wife was given potassium supplements and they did nothing, but when she ate 2 bananas a day, her levels returned to normal. The body is so much better at obtaining its requirements from natural foods.
Avatar f tn Did your doctor tell you to take supplements to keep your levels up and/or eat foods that are rich in calcium, magnesium and potassium in order to avoid deficiency again? These are electrolytes and must be kept in balance with other electrolytes - sodium and chloride. Many of us have to take magnesium supplements to prevent symptoms of deficiency. Magnesium citrate seems to be the best type to take, as magnesium oxide is mostly good as a laxative.
Avatar n tn I just want to know if the list of supplements and extracts i am taking pose any danger to myself? Or if the multivitamin/supplements in conjunction with the fruit and veg i eat each day will amount to extremly high values of certain vitamins/minerals which may be harmfull or have unwanted side effects?
919799 tn?1246034066 Had my first endo appt. and found out my potassium is low so she is rechecking it again says she doesnt know why it would be low because something about your kidneys holding on to it? My family dr. did ran the CMP In which it came back low and they did not tell me anything about it thats why she is rechecking it herself. The endo seems to think Iam "subclinical" HyperT. But we are waiting on more tests to find out, a FT3&FT4,ANTIBODYS,AND ANOTHER TSH.She also found a small goiter.
