422425 tn?1307992990 I was hospitalized over the weekend with a VERY low potassium level, and other metabolic levels were also low. Just wondering if anyone else struggles to keep their numbers up. I take lasix for heart issues, but even without it I am still low. My vitamin D was also very low......just wondering if it could be an autoimmune issue.
369861 tn?1306275686 Water pills and potassium pills if you are on the kind of water pill that depletes the potassium. Low potassium levels are dangerous because your heart needs the potassium to beat.
369861 tn?1306275686 Oddly, when I was put on diuretics prior to hospital stay, my heart enlarged, urination qaudrupled, and I flushed all the potassium and salt out of my system, and passed out with an over working heart. While at the ER, the ER doc said I had congestive heart failure, the 2nd morning, I had a stress test, passed with ease, then during the week a heart cath, no abnormalities. After leaving the hospital, I visit my cardiologist that performed serious of test, ultrasound, echo, etc....
369861 tn?1306275686 The emergency room took me off the HCT due to my potassium level being so low and the endo dr. took me off the diovan hct and just gave me a prescip for diovan without the diuretic. I am miserable as heck. I'm wheezing, cant sleep and I have to wait at least one more week to take the renin and aldersterone test. Please tell me there is hope for me.
Avatar f tn Diovan can rarely cause muscle breakdown and associated muscle pain and cramps and it is advised to consult your doctor to rule out the possibility as a cause. Diovan also causes increased level of potassium. Both increased and decreased levels of potassium have been linked to muscle weakness. Also, though leg pain can be caused by depletion of potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium etc.
1323747 tn?1364806882 I have potassium hovering barely above the low norm...and have had problems with potassium once before. Does anyone know tghe physiology of why this happens and do you have to take potassium supplements? I will get these questions out there for whoever has input. I will for sure ask some more later! Thanks for answering my post...
Avatar f tn ll say 25 mg once a day is a very low dose and hope your get some feed back from others on side effects. It seems they vary greatly person to person. For me 50 mg a day has minimal side effects, but yes, it does cause some fatigue. I am also in permanent atrial fibrillation which may be the real issue for me. I had taken Toprolol when much younger and in normal sinus rhythm (then it too was 50mg SR) and it had no side effects that I can recall, I was still running for exercise.
Avatar f tn Hi, I've been living with bulimia for nearly three years now and two weeks ago was struck down with a strange feeling of what I can only describe as "wobbly" weak-feeling legs, and also just a general weakness in my body. It is as if my legs are detached from the rest of my body. This made me feel dizzy, and anxious of going out in case I might fall.
Avatar f tn I went to the dr and my blood pressure is continuing to increase so they added another med to lower it and they tested my potassium and sodium. My potassium was at 3.5 and the range is 3.5-5. I am taking a hctz with spironolactone and they added lisinopril. The dr was more concerned about the potassium going to high because spironolactone and lisinopril are potassium sparing but after the tests I don't think that will be a concern. My sodium was also on the low end of normal 3.
4250330 tn?1388621179 It could be low potassium and a bunch of other things as well as low blood sugar. As a nurse i suggest u go to the doctor rather than treating it yourself especially if this is consistent. Have some blood work drawn to check and make sure.
Avatar f tn So, when the potassium level becomes low, it results in muscle malfunction and muscle twitchings, and you have experienced muscle crapms. Low Potassium can also cause the heart contracts prematurely.... muscles that assist in breathing become weak and lead to respiratory arrest. The kidneys become unable to concentrate urine and this leads to excessive urination and thirst. There can be a digestive problem. "The bowel motility is also hindered.
Avatar f tn ) and came across some interesting stuff regarding Florinef and low potassium levels. It is listed on the side effects sheet, but frankly, I didn't pay much attention to that. Anyway, in reading more about low potassium, I've found that it can cause: •Fatigue •Patient may experience problems such as Myalgia and muscular weakness •Patient may experience hyponatremia and also may experience confused i.e. anxiety.
1500525 tn?1458529998 Hi, I'm 43 & in hospice bcuz of CHF. Lately, I haven't been able to hold anything down. I'm not dehydrated (IV in the arm) but I'm extremely thirsty, and it seems nothing quenches my thirst after I take a drink I actually feel more thirsty. And when my mouth gets so dry like extremely dry, I get nausea, dry heave, then up comes bile ( the same thing is happening out the other end & same color/no smell I am told) I'm guessing that's bile too.
212161 tn?1599427282 My BP top # gets that high too when I'm anxious, like at the doctor's office & I've caught it that high after a social event like church or having friends over. I've been having " white coats syndrome" for many years, but only recently discoved it was also high when I've been out having a good time with friends etc. My cardio Dr. put me on diovan 160mg. Most of my readings are within normal range, but my top # still gets to 150 or 160 when I'm anxious.
431644 tn?1236899573 wondering if anyone has had low potassium and SVT? My blood work showed low potassium and I have to take some now. Also MCHC was high. I was told this is a trigger for SVT>.
1346429 tn?1303874854 I take singular (asthma), protonix (for ulcer), prenatal plus dha, zoloft (for anxiety) and vicodein for 2 spinal fractures and a pelvic fracture. All considered safe. I have low bp but dr said now with zofran to stop me from puking I should be better bp wise and hypoglycemia should be better controlled.
Avatar n tn I had hyperthyroidism (had a PT), and I had low potassium; I still do. I eat a lot of bananas and apples, but the endo wants me to take potassium supplements as well. It seems to me it has to do with the thyroid, but getting an answer from the endo on it seems to be impossible!
Avatar f tn It is highly unlikely, but clearly the sodium- potassium flux generates the electrical potential for nerve conduction, so low potassium will decrease the threshold of susceptability to a siezure. Low potassium makes the electrical system "twitchy". There is probably a co-factor involved. It is pointless to "seek studies". Don't get into an intellectual battle with this guy. He clearly is not that sharp a tack. Just keep your potassium levels within normal limits.
10483820 tn?1410466172 Currently maxed out on Diovan and Toprol. Experiencing from 170/79 to 192/90 readings in mornings. My PCP has added Imdur: 2/ 30mg @ night with 320 mg Diovan; and 1/ 30mg Imdur with 200mg Toprol in the morning. I have a 45 year history of valvular heart desease having had 4 open heart surgeries starting at age 28. Resulting in 2 mechanical valves and a pacemaker. Believe me, I am not complaining and feel pretty good.
