Common Questions and Answers about Diltiazem tachycardia

Avatar f tn So if I switch off Metoprolol onto Diltiazem, will it control my tachycardia but also enable me (with the Cialis) to enjoy a sex life again? Has anyone else done this? Thanks for any input.
Avatar n tn My doctor told me my problem is left ventricular fascicular tachycardia, which is an uncommon tachycardia. My tachycardia is very sensitive to Diltiazem (calcium channel blocker). The doctor tried Adenosine, but it never works. If they inject Diltiazem, my tachycardia would terminate immediately. My Mon had same problem when she was young. She had a few episodes when I was fetus, but she never had that problem again in the past 20 years.
Avatar n tn I am currently on 30 mg of diltiazem 3x day and i was wondering how effective is this dose at bring down your blood pressure. and how much would it bring it down. a rough estimate would be great. for i am hoping to come off of this medicine.
Avatar n tn Sent home with extended-release 120mg diltiazem. Experienced breakthrough arrhythmias and eventual return to tachycardia 170bpm that lasted 8 hours before heading to the ER again. Given fast-acting diltiazem 60mg, which seems to be working so far, although I'm still experiencing arrhythmias. Cardiologist preliminarily diagnosed AVNRT and recommended ablation asap. But now I, in addition to having this happen again, I am incredibly anxious about whether Medicaid covers this procedure.
Avatar n tn How long have you been on the medications? I see the ablations were last year but when did the doctor decide to start you on the meds? Sometimes it takes a few weeks to adjust. In some cases you may need to change to a different med. I was put on Verapamil at first and ended up in ER with chest pain, SOB and general weakness. Now I can take Diltiazem (similar but different) with no trouble. Two medications seem like a lot of drugs to control some atrial tachy.
Avatar m tn I just started taking Diltiazem for my PSVT rapid heart beat. It is a little early to know if it is doing any good, although I had an episode after starting. What has been your experience with this drug as a treatment for PSVT (my blood pressure is normal)? What other drugs worked better for you? [I am a 76 year old male in otherwise good health.
394017 tn?1255014532 do weight lifting at least once a week. I am now on Diltiazem 240 mg. The internist increased it from 120 mg, when I was having spikes of 140/90 with BP. It appears that the higher dosage is now controlling the BP (this morning it was 110/69) but not necessarily the pulse rate (was up to 99 yesterday afternoon). I am on a 30 day cardiac monitor that was started on 1/23/08. I had one ''event" of pulse of 120 that went back to high 90's after an hour.
Avatar f tn Now I take Diltiazem (another CCB) without much trouble. A heart rate of 86 at night is still pretty brisk. Mine is normally 60 at rest, in the low 70's when I'm up moving around. And that was before Diltiazem. No, I'm not athletic. I'm an old pudgy lady.
Avatar f tn I have been taking a calcium channel blocker-diltyeizem for my tachycardia and high blood pressure and it is not really lowering either. My tachycardia is sometimes 150/60 and I am suppossed to start taking a beta blocker-nadolol 40 mg. My question is: wouldn't the CCB still be in my system while starting the beta blocker? I have been on it over 2 months and will start the beta blocker tomorrow. What can I expect, is that safe? Thanks to anyone who can advise.
Avatar n tn My chest also hurts with this. I do have tachycardia but dont know what type. Should I be worried? These happen at least 4 times a day.
Avatar f tn The cardiologist then called in a new med called Verapamil ER 180mg yesterday after the horrible day before with the Diltiazen. Here is the thing. The Diltiazem seemed to induced tachycardia and worsened as the day went on and by evening i was in bad shape, but the Verapamil seems to be doing nothing..not making it worse but it's not controlling the tachycardia symptoms either?
214864 tn?1229715239 7 years ago, I was diagnosed with tachycardia, explained to me as pathological rapid heart rate of unknown cause. I was placed on a beta blocker immediately. My resting heart rate was around 105 bpm. Beta blockers have totally ruined my life, as well as they have save it. What irony... My question is, can I find a CCB that can take the place of a beta blocker that will slow my heart rate down? I already take Norvasc, a CCB to try to reverse diastolic dysfunction. My LVEDP is 27 mmhg.
3086858 tn?1340852861 MY QUESTION IS: Is it normal that I can't seem to exercise or even get to my third floor apartment, without running out of breath? I barely jogged 300ft and it took me twenty minutes to stop feeling like my chest and lungs were going to explode. I was very light headed as well. Hi, I am a 24 year old female. I am 5'3" and 130lbs. I was diagnosed with tachycardia about 2 years ago. About 3 weeks ago I was diagnosed with asthma.
Avatar f tn I had an ablation 6 mths ago for left sided atrial tachycardia. I did ok for a little while but then started having more chest pain, mild pericarditis. Then, the palpatations got worse & occured more often. Normal echo and stress. I have had several episodes where it feels like my heart stops. 6 months after ablation, dr ordered a 48 hr holter and discovered PACs. That very same day, I had my first SVT attack post ablation. I heard that PACs can induce SVT. Is that right?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Benign Tachycardia 2 years ago (I am 32 now). After two years of heart monitors and stress tests, my doctors too say nothing is "wrong" with my heart. I have been on altenalol which seems to help but I feel that I am mentally addicted to it. I have had some pretty serious attacks and when I have it with me, I can take one and usually be calmed within 30 minutes. I had been drinking, once or twice a week and drinking Red Bulls and energy drinks.
Avatar f tn This might be long so I apologize. For two years I have had rapid heartbeat spells where my heartrate would get up in the 120's and take hours on end to get it back down. I went to my first cardiologist ( I later changed) and he did an EKG, EEG, and a stress test all of which came back fine. He then had me wear a monitor for awhile (one of those where I had to push a button if something happened). Not a lot happened while wearing the monitor which was very frustrating.
Avatar f tn Newly diagnosed. .scared was taking metotropol (bad spelling) now prescribed diltiazem..
Avatar f tn Ok so I've been on Metoprolol 50-100mg a day for about a year for benign tachycardia. It's overall worked good for me. But I've noticed a decline in sexual function, specifically, more difficulty keeping an erection during sex. I'm about to start Cialis, so hopefully that will help regardless, but my cardiologist mentioned that I might try Cardizem. He was suggesting it had fewer sexual side effects.
Avatar n tn I am a 26 Y/O Male. My normal are as follows: BP-100/70 P- 100 IR (resting ) R-16. These proved not to work. About 2 years ago while working for a fire dept. I had another episode. While I was in full firegear I felt distress. When I entered the building I collapsed. The doctor then told me anxiety. But that I did have an elevated resting heart rate. In Dec. of 2008 I began experiencing frequent palpitations and high heart rates while at rest.
Avatar f tn I just had a cardiac ablation for AVNRT two days ago. (I also have inappropriate sinus tachycardia but there's not much to do about that.) Afterwards, my cardiologist took me off my Flecainide and Diltiazem and put me on 10mg of Nadolol which I can increase to 20mg after a week if I feel like doing so.
Avatar n tn I could not be converted with adenosine, but diltiazem was successful. I was sent home the first time with extended-release diltiazem, which did not work and my heart jumped back into tachycardia that last approximately 11 hours before ending up in the ED again. Echocardiogram revealed no abnormalities and cardiologists scheduled me for an ablation the following week. I had the ablation done in May and have not, thank God, had an SVT episode since.
Avatar n tn Finally, we caught it on an event monitor and it was diagnosed as Paroxyxmal Atrial Tachycardia. I assume this is the same as PSVT? Due to relocation, change of doctors, etc., I have ended up with three doctors all giving me different advice. They all agree that it is benign, but aggravating. I get lightheaded, cough and feel somewhat "confused" when it happens. Nevertheless, they've assured me it's ok.
