Diltiazem for tachycardia

Common Questions and Answers about Diltiazem for tachycardia

tiazac

Avatar f tn Diltiazem is pretty useless for sinus tachycardia. It can increase AV conduction time and be somewhat helpful for reducing the heart rate in the setting of Afib/Aflu, and help decrease ectopic atrial activity (PACs and atrial tachycardia). If you have sinus tachycardia and can't tolerate beta blockers, try ivabradine.
Avatar n tn My doctor told me my problem is left ventricular fascicular tachycardia, which is an uncommon tachycardia. My tachycardia is very sensitive to Diltiazem (calcium channel blocker). The doctor tried Adenosine, but it never works. If they inject Diltiazem, my tachycardia would terminate immediately. My Mon had same problem when she was young. She had a few episodes when I was fetus, but she never had that problem again in the past 20 years.
Avatar n tn I am currently on 30 mg of diltiazem 3x day and i was wondering how effective is this dose at bring down your blood pressure. and how much would it bring it down. a rough estimate would be great. for i am hoping to come off of this medicine.
Avatar n tn When I first started Diltiazem I had a powerful throbbing headache for a few weeks. It gradually tapered off. I was a bit tired too. After I'd been on it for a few months my BP would have low times (systolic in the 90's). I was a slug when my bp dropped that low. But thank goodness it wasn't that low all the time. It sure helped with the tachy times and chest pain though.
Avatar n tn Sent home with extended-release 120mg diltiazem. Experienced breakthrough arrhythmias and eventual return to tachycardia 170bpm that lasted 8 hours before heading to the ER again. Given fast-acting diltiazem 60mg, which seems to be working so far, although I'm still experiencing arrhythmias. Cardiologist preliminarily diagnosed AVNRT and recommended ablation asap. But now I, in addition to having this happen again, I am incredibly anxious about whether Medicaid covers this procedure.
214864 tn?1229715239 Hey Darling - you can have my Diltiazem.
Avatar n tn lasting for minutes to hours. I did try Diltiazem 30 mgs. 4 times daily -I was doing well for a week then had a severe episode of tachycardia -went to emerg. and then changed back to flecinide and sotalol.Seeing the cardiologist in Dec. I believe I have a-fib.
Avatar m tn I just started taking Diltiazem for my PSVT rapid heart beat. It is a little early to know if it is doing any good, although I had an episode after starting. What has been your experience with this drug as a treatment for PSVT (my blood pressure is normal)? What other drugs worked better for you? [I am a 76 year old male in otherwise good health.
Avatar m tn It is possible my memory is just failing me, but at the moment at least I have no idea what those letter stand for (would guess Atrial Tachycardia for the AT part... still not helpful for me). Again, not anything I can directly relate to but it seems to me reasonable that discuss "start gerding up what food I ate at eveing meal or at nite." with at least you primary care doctor.. are you being treated for "gerd"?
Avatar m tn Subsequently , 2D Echo was carried out which showed - No RWMA , EF - Normal and Valves - Normal. However, the Holter Monitoring for 24 hours for me indicated Non-Sustained SVT and No Arrhythmia During Symptoms. I have been advised to take Diltiazem Hydrochloride 30 tablets 3 times a day.I would like to get an Expert Advice on how safe is my heart condition and weather I need to take any medicine for life long.
394017 tn?1255014532 is this sinus rhythm or not. If not and you have these symptoms and the medication is not controlling it then you may need to undergo an EPS where the inside electrical network of the heart is studied and is almost 100% effective in diagnosing the electrical arrhythmia, and usually almost as effective in treating it. You want to know why, but in many instances that question cannot be answered: we know it does happen and it causes symptoms and that we can treat it.
Avatar n tn Finally, we caught it on an event monitor and it was diagnosed as Paroxyxmal Atrial Tachycardia. I assume this is the same as PSVT? Due to relocation, change of doctors, etc., I have ended up with three doctors all giving me different advice. They all agree that it is benign, but aggravating. I get lightheaded, cough and feel somewhat "confused" when it happens. Nevertheless, they've assured me it's ok.
Avatar f tn back to back? I have been taking a calcium channel blocker-diltyeizem for my tachycardia and high blood pressure and it is not really lowering either. My tachycardia is sometimes 150/60 and I am suppossed to start taking a beta blocker-nadolol 40 mg. My question is: wouldn't the CCB still be in my system while starting the beta blocker? I have been on it over 2 months and will start the beta blocker tomorrow. What can I expect, is that safe? Thanks to anyone who can advise.
Avatar n tn My chest also hurts with this. I do have tachycardia but dont know what type. Should I be worried? These happen at least 4 times a day.
Avatar f tn I was on it for a week but my side effects were not very pleasant, a bit out of the norm. They took me off of it. Now I take Diltiazem (another CCB) without much trouble. A heart rate of 86 at night is still pretty brisk. Mine is normally 60 at rest, in the low 70's when I'm up moving around. And that was before Diltiazem. No, I'm not athletic. I'm an old pudgy lady.
Avatar f tn I feel for those with severe tachycardia..i suffer from it as well. I have been on Antenolol 50mg twice a day for almost three years and from the moment i took it...it has served me well. Problem is, i have asthma that has worsened over the past 6 months so the cardiologist switched me to a CCB called Diltiazem 240mg ER that i started this Thursday. It was horrible..
3086858 tn?1340852861 I was put on Bystolic 10mg for the tachycardia, which I take daily. I was also put on an aspirin regimen, for the blood clotting. My doctor gave me two breathing treatments due to my severe wheezing at my appt. in which he discovered my asthma. He also had me on an Advair diskus for one week and an inhaler. I am still on a Levalbuterol oral inhaler. I was also getting facial hives, but they did not itch, I did not mention that to my doctor and from my reading I wonder if I should have.
Avatar f tn I had an ablation 6 mths ago for left sided atrial tachycardia. I did ok for a little while but then started having more chest pain, mild pericarditis. Then, the palpatations got worse & occured more often. Normal echo and stress. I have had several episodes where it feels like my heart stops. 6 months after ablation, dr ordered a 48 hr holter and discovered PACs. That very same day, I had my first SVT attack post ablation. I heard that PACs can induce SVT. Is that right?
Avatar f tn Does anyone know if 14,026 PACs and PATs in 24hrs are dangerous? Sometimes they last for hours. This has been going on for weeks. Toporol beta-blocker didn't work to stop them, the cardiologist wants me to try Cardizem, a calcium-channel blocker. What do you think?
Avatar n tn Tachycardia and energy drinks do not go well together. Any caffeine will ramp up the heart rate and if you already have a heart prone to tachy, then drinks like this are pretty much off limits. You said the atenolol helps and that's good. Especially if you're having a bad episode, taking the med will settle the heart rhythm and 30 mins. sounds about right for the med to get into your system. I used Diltiazem like that for a few years. It's call "pill in a pocket.
177337 tn?1310059899 I have Diltiazem for that reason. When I'm having a bratty heart day with lots of tachy and chest pain, I use one of those to calm things down. It's not quick like taking an aspirin for a headache but it does help. The only down side is Diltiazem gives me a wicked headache. If I took it every day like I used to, that side effect would wear off in a couple of weeks. Still, I'd rather just take it when I have to and deal with the headache. At least it calms my heart.
2093880 tn?1334813768 Lose dose Xanax when needed for the panic than tachycardia seems to bring on for me. Keep a close watch on your blood pressure and delay the dose if it or your heart rate gets too low. I was able to exercise on this regimen, but not get my heart rate up very high. According to the cardiologist, the important thing is to keep moving and it doesn't have to be fast. I am now on Norpace CR and it has kept me out of Afib for over a year.
Avatar f tn You probably have multiple pre-atrial complexes or pre-ventricular complexes and in the setting of a structurally normal heart these are totally benign. Like your cardiologist told you, they are just very annoying and can make you feel poorly. I can guarantee you that anxiety make them ten times worse so if your anxiety is not well-controlled I would recommend seeing someone and trying a medication for your anxiety because this may cause your spells to calm down.
Avatar f tn What type of svt do you have? Nothing really stops svt. It only slow the heart rate down when you have it. Reentry svts can be corrected with ablation. As for meds it really is a matter of what works for you. What works for one doesn't work for all. But accessory pathway svts won't go away without an ablation. Unfortunately there are other svts that are harder to treat so just listen to your doctor and keep trying to find what works for you. Take care.
