1622431 tn?1299070442 taking Diltiazem for 2 months , treating PACs and SVT episodes. Could not tolerate Beta Blockers. Diltiazem tries its best with SVT, shortens them , but my PACs increased the past two days , every second heart beat is double . Could not tolerate , went to Hospital, they advised to take metoprolol to break the PACs cycle.
Avatar m tn I just started taking Diltiazem for my PSVT rapid heart beat. It is a little early to know if it is doing any good, although I had an episode after starting. What has been your experience with this drug as a treatment for PSVT (my blood pressure is normal)? What other drugs worked better for you? [I am a 76 year old male in otherwise good health.
Avatar f tn I am taking 25mg metoprolol and 60mg diltiazem daily. I was up to 50mg metoprolol and 120mg diltiazem daily at one point but have cut back recently. Since cutting back I have been less fatigued and seem to have less difficulty breathing although I still have the annoying headaches. I am trying to find the best way to deal with the SVTs and palpitations but maintain a decent quality of life. I don't believe these particular meds are going to do it for me.
Avatar f tn 6 months after ablation, dr ordered a 48 hr holter and discovered PACs. That very same day, I had my first SVT attack post ablation. I heard that PACs can induce SVT. Is that right? Am I now suffering from 2 types of arrhythmias? Arrhytmias are really scary.
Avatar n tn First time, adenosine failed twice to bring down 180+ pulse. Diltiazem given, and worked. Sent home with extended-release 120mg diltiazem. Experienced breakthrough arrhythmias and eventual return to tachycardia 170bpm that lasted 8 hours before heading to the ER again. Given fast-acting diltiazem 60mg, which seems to be working so far, although I'm still experiencing arrhythmias. Cardiologist preliminarily diagnosed AVNRT and recommended ablation asap.
Avatar n tn My old doctors in IN. say I have AVRNT, my Dr in FL tells me I have SVT not AVRNT, and says I should be taking carvedilol and not diltiazem, who is right and why, hhmmmm.
Avatar f tn Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT) is a broad classification. I had about 10 episodes of 140 BPN over ten years with no more complications than emergency room trips for conversion or conversion at home with propafenone. My particular type was atrial flutter which appears to have been cured by ablation a little over a year ago. If your heart is otherwise healthy it is a condition that can be managed (but certainly no enjoyed!) https://en.wikipedia.
177337 tn?1310059899 I was also given diltiazem. I think there was some miscommunication between my ep and cardiologist who ordered the perscription. The cardiologist instructed me to take them daily, at night which I did. My blood pressure is somewhat low, 100/70 avg., and diltiazen lowers blood pressure. It went down to 70 something to under 50 and it actually casued me to have a panic attack and couldn't sleep. So I stopped taking them.
Avatar n tn I could not be converted with adenosine, but diltiazem was successful. I was sent home the first time with extended-release diltiazem, which did not work and my heart jumped back into tachycardia that last approximately 11 hours before ending up in the ED again. Echocardiogram revealed no abnormalities and cardiologists scheduled me for an ablation the following week. I had the ablation done in May and have not, thank God, had an SVT episode since.
Avatar f tn to cartia xt after I had a bad svt attack that put me in the hospital hoping that the meds would calm my heart down (on this med. I was feeling tired and out of breath at times . ) one this meds. I had another attack-dr. Sent me to see a EP he found the problem right away. There was a cancelation and the following week went in for the ablation. Like i said above everything went fine.
1153421 tn?1262132684 I have been diagnosed with SVT. I landed in the emergency room after an episode, that usually only lasts for a few seconds, would NOT STOP. I felt dizzy, weak, almost passed out, and after A LOT of intravenous drugs and several hours my heart rate went back to normal. I was sent home and placed on oral diltiazem 120 mgs 2 tabs 2x daily. After about a week I could barely lift one foot in front of the other. So he dropped it to 1 tab 2x daily.
Avatar f tn t use one because it triggers your SVT. As an asthmatic and somebody with SVT and atrial tachycardias, I use Advair daily and have an albuterol inhaler if needed. While the albuterol can cause some tachycardia, Albuterol doesn't stay in the system for all that long and I value my breathing more than my SVT most days. I do have Diltiazem that I can take as needed for tachycardia and also take Flecainide twice daily.
489725 tn?1280052553 hello new to this forum .i was diagosed with svt 2 yrs ago through holter monitor and quickely brought in for ablation and since now have been left with constant pvcs.i was first told that the produrce was a success but 6 monthslater all the symptoms are back again.my heart is going into bursts up to 288 lasting seconds to minutes and have left me feeling very uncomfortable all over again.
Avatar m tn Subsequently , 2D Echo was carried out which showed - No RWMA , EF - Normal and Valves - Normal. However, the Holter Monitoring for 24 hours for me indicated Non-Sustained SVT and No Arrhythmia During Symptoms. I have been advised to take Diltiazem Hydrochloride 30 tablets 3 times a day.I would like to get an Expert Advice on how safe is my heart condition and weather I need to take any medicine for life long.
672586 tn?1280933658 At my request, my family physician has agreed to change my medication from daily metoprolol extended release 100 mg to daily diltiazem 120 mg. Can I simply switch without fear of withdrawal symptoms from the metoprolol? His instructions were to stop taking the metoprolol when I start the new diltiazem. I was not aware that I might face withdrawal from metoprolol.
Avatar f tn m a female, but I can share my experience switching from a beta blocker to diltiazem. I have been taking beta blockers for 8 years for SVT and afib. I had an episode of afib and was in the hospital is Sept. They took me off the beta blocker and put me on diltiazem. It didn't control my heart rate like the beta blocker. My resting heart rate went from upper 60s to the low 80s. After a few days without my beta blocker, I ended up in the ER, in sinus tachycardia with a rate of about 120.
Avatar f tn underactive thyroid needs to be medicated but with your svt im guessing the thyroxine would irritate your svt?i dont think it makes any difference how healthy a lifestyle you lead, you will still need treatment for it hun.
741453 tn?1232810957 Hi, I am 46 year male. Last week I went in to have surgery done on a hernia, and literally minutes before going into the operating room I had an attack of SVT''s. I had a series of them about a month ago, for the first time , went into see the doc and got a echo and monitor....all showed no problem. ( A series for me would be 10-or-15 seconds of rapid beats, one big one at the end, and then I'm back on track for a few minutes, then another SVT ,and so forth......
Avatar f tn Looking to safely taper off of my calcium channel blocker diltiazem extended release capsules. I have been on them a little over one year. My blood pressure is perfect and was perfect prior to my heart surgery. The only reason I am on them is because I had a large tumor in my heart and once I had my open heart surgery I developed post-op SVT, afib, a-flutter and my heart rate has skyrocketed over 200 beats per minute several times.
Avatar f tn I was on it for a week and ended up in ER due to some nasty side effects like chest pain and severe weakness and shortness of breath. However, I can take a different CCB (Diltiazem) without much trouble. Some people are on beta blockers for years and do well. I hate to say it but it kind of a drug roulette. All the doctor can do is have you try something and see if it helps you. If not, there are other choices out there.
Avatar m tn Dear Tom, Thanks again for responding. I have to feel blessed when I consider that you have had to deal with this problem since age 6, and mine didn't start until age 74. I really sympathize with you and the other people on this forum. I am feeling kind of foolish about all the attention and expense I'm demanding or getting involuntarily, so it helps with my feelings of guilt to talk to others with the same problem.
Avatar n tn My son was healthy, but I had a major SVT during labor. My cardio during that and for the 6 mths after it, treated it like is was not a big deal. At his office, I was a bored housewife and tired new mother. That I could or could not take a beta blocker and wait until I was older to have an ablation. My husband and sister are both physicans, and althought not cardiologist, had many questions on his treatment and plan for me. I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks in August.
Avatar m tn he sent me back to my regular doctor who at first put me on metoprolol but I had a bit of chest pain with that drug as well as nightmares. Now he has me on diltiazem but since I've been on that my heart rate has gone back up (the metoprolol was keeping my heart rate down). What do you all think I should do??? This is completely debilitating - I have not worked in 2 weeks. I can't go for walks, can't hang out socially. I feel "off" all the time.
Avatar n tn I just noticed that I had once a week SVT and when ever i took Lanoxin with full stoamch, SVT stopped after 11 hrs. ( that happened twice ). One time I had SVT and i took Lanoxin on an empty stomach and SVT stopped after an hour. Yesterday, I had SVT again. I took Lanoxin after eating my snacks and the SVT stopped after 6 hrs. My BP was 120/80, after 2 hrs. 100/80..I am 41, female. If my 2D echo with Doppler showed all normal, what is the cause then of these palpitaitons.
