1622431 tn?1299070442 taking Diltiazem for 2 months , treating PACs and SVT episodes. Could not tolerate Beta Blockers. Diltiazem tries its best with SVT, shortens them , but my PACs increased the past two days , every second heart beat is double . Could not tolerate , went to Hospital, they advised to take metoprolol to break the PACs cycle.
177337 tn?1310059899 I have Diltiazem for that reason. When I'm having a bratty heart day with lots of tachy and chest pain, I use one of those to calm things down. It's not quick like taking an aspirin for a headache but it does help. The only down side is Diltiazem gives me a wicked headache. If I took it every day like I used to, that side effect would wear off in a couple of weeks. Still, I'd rather just take it when I have to and deal with the headache. At least it calms my heart.
Avatar m tn I just started taking Diltiazem for my PSVT rapid heart beat. It is a little early to know if it is doing any good, although I had an episode after starting. What has been your experience with this drug as a treatment for PSVT (my blood pressure is normal)? What other drugs worked better for you? [I am a 76 year old male in otherwise good health.
Avatar f tn I have been taking metoprolol and diltiazem for sixteen months and initially the medications brought the SVTs under control. Fourteen months ago I started coughing blood and experiencing chest congestion. This took my attention off any heart issues and sent me on a long search for the cause of the bleeding. After many tests and visits with various specialists I never did get the answer. The bleeding resolved itself after 10 months (last October) and has not reappeared.
Avatar f tn Is it common to have PACs with SVT? I had an ablation 6 mths ago for left sided atrial tachycardia. I did ok for a little while but then started having more chest pain, mild pericarditis. Then, the palpatations got worse & occured more often. Normal echo and stress. I have had several episodes where it feels like my heart stops. 6 months after ablation, dr ordered a 48 hr holter and discovered PACs. That very same day, I had my first SVT attack post ablation.
Avatar m tn I know that Metoprolol overdose feeling; dragging, dull, heavy chest pain. At one point, I was up to 200mg. for a month, so I can relate to what you're feeling. I think you have to weigh the significant risks involving ablation and the location of your accessory pathway vs. drug therapy and living with your condition. How often do your events occur? Are you able to convert them yourself by some means; Valsalva, etc.? At 30 years old, time is on your side.
Avatar m tn Heart rate jumped up very quickly for 15-30 seconds, slowed for a few beats and then jumped back up again for 15-30 seconds, then slowed for a couple regular beats, then ran up again - this process of fast heart rate followed by a few slow beats, followed by fast heart rate repeated for several minutes - somewhere between 5 and 10 mins probably - during this episode I became increasingly dizzy, my breathing picked up and I sweated through my clothes - it left me feeling weak and with some che
Avatar n tn First time, adenosine failed twice to bring down 180+ pulse. Diltiazem given, and worked. Sent home with extended-release 120mg diltiazem. Experienced breakthrough arrhythmias and eventual return to tachycardia 170bpm that lasted 8 hours before heading to the ER again. Given fast-acting diltiazem 60mg, which seems to be working so far, although I'm still experiencing arrhythmias. Cardiologist preliminarily diagnosed AVNRT and recommended ablation asap.
Avatar f tn Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT) is a broad classification. I had about 10 episodes of 140 BPN over ten years with no more complications than emergency room trips for conversion or conversion at home with propafenone. My particular type was atrial flutter which appears to have been cured by ablation a little over a year ago. If your heart is otherwise healthy it is a condition that can be managed (but certainly no enjoyed!) https://en.wikipedia.
Avatar n tn My old doctors in IN. say I have AVRNT, my Dr in FL tells me I have SVT not AVRNT, and says I should be taking carvedilol and not diltiazem, who is right and why, hhmmmm.
Avatar n tn I was on it for years the cardiologist took me off told me I probably did not have SVT anymore cause I had it for so many years and apparently it goes away. I just had a heart monitor on for seven days and I still have SVT. I haven’t heard from the doctor yet as it was on the portal and staff had not viewed it yet according to what was written. And yes, it is more than annoying. I am getting a lot of PVCs, and it seems like the SVT episodes are increasing.
Avatar f tn ve 5 years post ablation for a kind of SVT very similar to Wolff-Parkinson-White, even down to the delta wave in the EKG. But it was something else called Circus Movement Tachcardia, with orthodromic conduction meaning that it conducted in the normal direction. I had mine fixed after a near lifetime of SVT episodes; from 6 to 60. It was a self sustaining SVT that would not drop out on its own once it started up. I had to convert it using Valsalva.

Avatar f tn t stay in the system for all that long and I value my breathing more than my SVT most days. I do have Diltiazem that I can take as needed for tachycardia and also take Flecainide twice daily. Do you normally have more trouble this time of year with your asthma because of allergies? Maybe taking something like Zyrtec everyday could help as well.
Avatar m tn Subsequently , 2D Echo was carried out which showed - No RWMA , EF - Normal and Valves - Normal. However, the Holter Monitoring for 24 hours for me indicated Non-Sustained SVT and No Arrhythmia During Symptoms. I have been advised to take Diltiazem Hydrochloride 30 tablets 3 times a day.I would like to get an Expert Advice on how safe is my heart condition and weather I need to take any medicine for life long.
Avatar f tn m a female, but I can share my experience switching from a beta blocker to diltiazem. I have been taking beta blockers for 8 years for SVT and afib. I had an episode of afib and was in the hospital is Sept. They took me off the beta blocker and put me on diltiazem. It didn't control my heart rate like the beta blocker. My resting heart rate went from upper 60s to the low 80s. After a few days without my beta blocker, I ended up in the ER, in sinus tachycardia with a rate of about 120.
672586 tn?1280933658 Good Day, I would like to ask how long have u taken both the Metoprolol & Norvasc? I was prescribed by my Internist recently Norvasc 2.5 mg with Metoprolol 25 mg. I used to take Metoprolol with Diltiazem CD 120mg 2X /day for almost 2 months but noticed a "burning chest pain" with Diltiazem that's why I stopped using it. But now I'm afraid to take Norvasc, too.
Avatar f tn underactive thyroid needs to be medicated but with your svt im guessing the thyroxine would irritate your svt?i dont think it makes any difference how healthy a lifestyle you lead, you will still need treatment for it hun.
Avatar m tn i have episodes in th nights also ,which are corrected by vagal manouvers like pinching my nostrils and blowing out. but th episodes i had during the day for which i was admitted in th hospital are more severe and they get corrected by medication such as diltiazem. presently i am on beta blockers, and i am fine. But the thought of this episode really scares me , even if i dont want to think about it ,it comes to my head. I am afraid to work out or go for a jog also or infact play also.
741453 tn?1232810957 Hi, I am 46 year male. Last week I went in to have surgery done on a hernia, and literally minutes before going into the operating room I had an attack of SVT''s. I had a series of them about a month ago, for the first time , went into see the doc and got a echo and monitor....all showed no problem. ( A series for me would be 10-or-15 seconds of rapid beats, one big one at the end, and then I'm back on track for a few minutes, then another SVT ,and so forth......
Avatar f tn My daughter just did this follow an ablation for Afib. This is a question for your physician, but my daughter was cold ease back a quarter of a pill each week. So, 4 weeks, and she was done. No issues for her. I'd check first though.
Avatar f tn The Heart Rhythm Society did a few randomized trials to assess the efficacy of calcium channel blockers, beta-blockers and digoxin in SVT. A comparison of verapamil, propranolol and digoxin showed equivalent efficacy in a small group of patients. However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes.
Avatar m tn Adenosine stopped my heart briefly, except for a little blip, but the rapid heart beat immediately returned. Others praise adenosine; it did no good at all for me. I am now taking Diltiazem (120 mg), and I don't think it is working. I had an episode recently which was long enough for me to cure it with the running-up-stairs routine. I have an appointment with a cardio- electrophysiologist in January 2015. He has already told my doctor an ablation will fix my problem.
Avatar n tn My son was healthy, but I had a major SVT during labor. My cardio during that and for the 6 mths after it, treated it like is was not a big deal. At his office, I was a bored housewife and tired new mother. That I could or could not take a beta blocker and wait until I was older to have an ablation. My husband and sister are both physicans, and althought not cardiologist, had many questions on his treatment and plan for me. I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks in August.
Avatar n tn I just noticed that I had once a week SVT and when ever i took Lanoxin with full stoamch, SVT stopped after 11 hrs. ( that happened twice ). One time I had SVT and i took Lanoxin on an empty stomach and SVT stopped after an hour. Yesterday, I had SVT again. I took Lanoxin after eating my snacks and the SVT stopped after 6 hrs. My BP was 120/80, after 2 hrs. 100/80..I am 41, female. If my 2D echo with Doppler showed all normal, what is the cause then of these palpitaitons.
Avatar f tn Here's my story: I was diagnosed with SVT after a few years of passing out, having trouble breathing, and fatigue. I have been through cardiologists like pages in a book and finally have found a great DR. After being referred to him last year, my first appointment with him, he told me that he'd like to perform a cardiac ablation, which I agreed too. This was in January of this year. After finding out that the ablation was unsuccessful, he put me on Nadolol, metoprolol, and diltiazem.
