My doctor just changed my medication to cardiazem does anyone know about this med?
If one never had swollen gums after taking Diltiazem Hydrochloride Extended-release Capsules USP for years and then suddenly has swollen gums (no redness or infection) could the Diltiazem suddenly cause this after getting a "deep cleaning" of the teeth, or 'probing for pocket depths' at a dentist?
Two weeks ago my Cardio doctor changed my medication from Cardizem LA to Diltiazem CD. I know it's the generic brand of Cardizem. Anyway he raised my dosage from 240 mg. to 300 mg. For a whole week I had some terrible side effects. I blacked out once while sitting at my computer and then I came close to blacking out on a daily basis. I also felt off balance. I ended up going to my primary doctor, not for this, but for something else. I guess it was a follow up appointment.
Hi Guys...Currently I take 360mg DR of Diltiazem once daily...I worry that since sometimes I forget as to whether I have taken my pill or not due to a fast paced life / career. My question is...If I were to accidentally take a double dose of the stuff would I end up kicking the bucket?

On administration, the capsule results in detectable plasma levels within 2 hours and peak plasma levels between 10 and 14 hours. Half life is 5-8 hrs. So, it should take about 2-3days for complete elimination and the recovery of peripheral vasodilatation.

It finally got to where I was having some beats so strong and violent.I told my cardiologist and asked to change medication or a lower dose.He told me to go back to my family doctor who prescribed it originally. As it was 6 weeks to see him, I decided to stop the tiazac. After a few days the symptoms went away. I went back on and symptoms returned. Saw my family doctor. He changed me monocor ,and sent me for ekg, 24 hr,holter .Cardiologist put me on rythmol.
Hi, I'm a 33 year old male, not overweight, not diabetic, I've been dealing with tachycardia for some time now. It comes and goes. I found that 50mg of Metoprolol twice a day would mostly control it, but as a 33 year old man, I began to notice major erection issues since being on it. Talked to my doctor, they want me to start 120mg a day of Diltiazem. I'm a little nervous about it, but they assured me it's no more potent a medication.
However, amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium-channel blocker whose primary effect is more peripherally acting rather (as compared to the non-dihydropyridine CCB, i.e. diltiazem or verapamil, which are more centrally acting). Beta blockers is a proven medication that improves survival in those who have suffered a heart attack, have coronary artery disesase, or heart failure. If there are indications for this, then it is usually a good idea to be on one.
I am currently on 30 mg of diltiazem 3x day and i was wondering how effective is this dose at bring down your blood pressure. and how much would it bring it down. a rough estimate would be great. for i am hoping to come off of this medicine.
i am 24 and am now on diltiazem lowest dose. i am very symptomatic to meds. i was on metoprolol and i had bad asthma with it. so recently i was switched. well i am a nursing student ready to graduate and am pretty fond of the heart and conduction, so i am affraid of things like clot formations and the fact that the medicine isnt stopping the flutters. if i up my dose i get very dizzy and feel like i have motion sickness like the floor is moving from under me. its really odd, anywho...
I just checked my prescription bottle and see the calcium channel blocker is Diltiazem 120 mg twice a day. This is a generic medication for the drug you mention, I believe. It is normal release, so I take it every 12 hours. I do believe the slow release isn't available in generic.
BP is relatively normal. I take indapmide for that (From my regular doctor). In fact when my cardilolgist put me on diltiazem, he took me off indapamide. That didn't last long. The diltiazem did nothing for my BP. It went back up (Only talking +/- 140/90), so let me add bavk the indapamide. So, that is not an issue. Just the MVP/ diltazem issue.The pulse can stay n the 60's for awhile. At most during the day, in the 80's. (Of course, that is only when the rythym is normal).
Maybe he could prescribe you a sustained released nitro medication. There are several. That might help. Then you get a small dose released throughtout the day.
t get any responses here, but from googling around on the web I came to the conclusion that diltiazem, a calcium channel blocker, would be better for an athlete than atenolol, a beta blocker. So I called the doctor who agreed to change my medication. Yesterday on the treadmill, after having only taken one 25mg dose of atenolol my heart rate only showed a bit over 120 when I was doing a pace for which a 140 should have been called for.
Have you discussed these results with your doctor and a cardiologist. from my limited experience (personal and as an educator) your cholesterol levels should be lowered with a statin...you should be in a controlled exercise program to not only loose weight but to improve your cardiovascular fitness. A family history is a blinking dashboard warning signal ...you do not ignore it. why are you on a calcium channel blocker? high blood pressure? if so make sure that is well controlled.
We will first try to control the heart rate with one medication. If that does not work, a second medication is added. Sometimes even a third medication is needed. Cardizem (diltiazem) is known to cause swelling at higher doses, it seems elderly women are common group to have this problem. One option is to use a medication called digoxin to help slow down the rate and decrease the dose of diltiazem.
I am starting to think it has to do with the Medication. She had been increased from 1 - 1 1/2 Florinef 3 days a week and 1/2 the remainder. It seems to me that she started this other pain around the time of this increase. She has not been to see an endocrinologist or had any of the advanced tests to see if the Adrenal is functioning at all. Our PC has been very involved with all of it but she is not a specialist.
He also put me on Diltiazem ER, with instructions to take three 30mg diltiazem fast acting, 30 minutes apart for an episode (which I just had this evening).........I add a 7.5 mg Tranxene, and that seems to help end it.......I'm nort an anxious person, but it's my opinion that my brain just automatically goes into that state when my heart is beating that fast and erratic.........
You take metoprolol, diltiazem, enalapril and telmisartan. The first two agents address primarily heart rate (HR) but are not great blood pressure (BP) drugs. Speaking of HR, what is the reason that you see an electrophysiologist? Atrial fibrillation? and are you feeling poorly when your heart rate is 40s?
