Avatar n tn I am currently on 30 mg of diltiazem 3x day and i was wondering how effective is this dose at bring down your blood pressure. and how much would it bring it down. a rough estimate would be great. for i am hoping to come off of this medicine.
Avatar n tn About 1.5 months ago, my doctor changed one of my high blood pressure medication from Atenolol (beta blocker) to Diltiazem (calcium channel blocker) since Atenolol caused insomnia. Ater the change, I do sleep much better. However, I have noticed that I have occasional minor coughing. Has anyone have similar experience with Diltiazem? Any side effects of Diltiazem that you experienced ? Thank.
Avatar f tn Hello again, If you start taking Hawthorne preparations be aware that "Overdose can cause cardiac arrhythmia and dangerously low blood pressure. Milder side effects include nausea and sedation. Patients taking Digoxin should avoid taking hawthorn. 177337 tn?1310059899 My blood pressure is somewhat low, 100/70 avg., and diltiazen lowers blood pressure. It went down to 70 something to under 50 and it actually casued me to have a panic attack and couldn't sleep. So I stopped taking them. When I talked to me ep to explain what the medicine did, he said I was just supposed to take them during a SVT attack. Don't know what your blood pressure is, just know that diltiazem lowers it.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately I believe the increase in frequency is related to the reduction in meds. Another thing to mention is my diastolic blood pressure is normally low (50-65) while my systolic is often in the 130s. Makes blood pressure medications more of a challenge.
182884 tn?1259312906 But other times it is on the low side, 89/55 to 100/60. If I take this med and I have low blood pressure, what will happen? Should I take my blood pressure before taking this med to make sure it is not too low? My dr. only advised me to be sitting down when I take it to start with. He explained that it was to help make the blood flow in my heart more even not to work so hard, thus not muscle spasms and no angina pain. I have lots of questions but this will do for the start.
Avatar f tn I don't think I'll even try the Diltiazem, kind of scares me based on lot of the negative reviews I've heard about it. I think drinking too much coffee in the mornings may have played a role in the tachycardia. I usually drink 1-4 cups of black coffee. Maybe I'll cut back to one cup and see how that works. I might ask about invabradine.
Avatar m tn I have taken as much as 200 mg of Metoprolol and had a lot of trouble with very low blood pressure and some dizziness, this was changed to a combination of lower dose (50 mg) BB and CCB. My blood pressure is near normal and my HR is (resting) is at a reasonable level. I am not a candidate for ablation because of an enlarged heart (left atrium in particular). Have you discussed an ablation with your doctor? Given troublesome symptoms I think a ablation should be considered.
1689583 tn?1387752394 t have high blood pressure. I had to reduce the dose while in a study for a similar medication (PI). PIs can increase the amount of blood pressure medication in you if you take a calcium channel blocker like diltiazem.
Avatar f tn You should also get your blood cholesterol, lipid, triglyceride, blood sugar and thyroid levels checked. Please discuss this with your cardiologist. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
Avatar m tn s not caused by any heart disease, but in your case, with sleep apnea and elevated blood pressure, it can be caused by changes in the left atrium. It may also be causing atrial fibrillation later, so if there is a cause (like high blood pressure, overweight, sleep apnea, pulmonary diseases, etc), you must get it treated by your doctor. Is your blood pressure normal when you don't have the tachycardia?
1655526 tn?1330655629 Still trying to decide on this one. Through all of this over the years I just get really tired and have low blood pressure until recently. I can't get through the day without a nap and just feel too tired to even think most of the time. My blood work is always wonderful, even thyroid which I don't know how many times have had that test. With all of the flutters the I experience each day it hit me that perhaps just having an irregular heart beat might cause tiredness.
Avatar f tn I would say that if your HR needed to be a little faster than 40s, then adjust metoprolol or diltiazem as your had done, but then increase the enalapril and/or telmisartan to treat the blood pressure. IF labile blood pressure is an issue, I would take enalapril twice a day (even though commonly it is a once a day med, some people metabolize it faster). Also, adding another long-acting BP medication such as amlodipine might be helpful if HR is ideal but BP still too high.
Avatar f tn HI,I went back to my cardologist today because of my shortness of breath and chest pain and dizziness,,,he showed me the pictures of my stress test and he explained that the small portion that does not get adequate blood when stressed is not a serious thing,,,,but my heart rate problem,he gave me Verapamil sr to try this time 120 mg i have tried Bystolic and Atenol they made me feel very strange im so afraid this new med will drop my heart rate to much,,,,sometimes at night my heart rate is 86
Avatar m tn My doctor seemed somewhat reluctant to add the Diltiazem but said lets try it. My Blood pressure has been around 155/95. His reluctance just seems to scare me. Should I try it or should I not? If I do start taking it should I take it with the metoprolol or at different times?
Avatar m tn What seems strange to me is that Diltiazem is for angina and high blood pressure, but is only an OFF LABEL use for arrhythmias. Hence, I have noticed no change in my PVCs (perhaps even a little worse for these first 25 days on Diltiazem, and especially heavy PVCs when I first try to go to sleep at night), nor has my blood pressure been lowered.
1317224 tn?1378705134 ve had two major episodes and my heart rate is going back to 185 but my blood pressure drops as low as 50/30. This is a scary new twist as yesterday I had an episode and ended up having to call an Aid car/ambulance halfway to the hospital because I couldn't breathe, my lips were turning blue, and my BP was 50/30. The medics ended up cardioverting me in the aid car and said it was a good thing we'd called them when we did.
Avatar f tn I am specially worried about his blood pressure. Before the stenting, he was hypertense, but, after the sten,t blood pressure is low, with figures of 120/50, 110/50, 100/60. The doctors (vascular neurologists) seemed not to be very concerned about that: they put his antihypertensive drugs off. They also put diltiazem (prescribed by his cardiologist) off. But I wonder if this lower pressure is a transient effect, or if we can expect that this is going to continue...
Avatar f tn I just had a cardiac ablation for AVNRT two days ago. (I also have inappropriate sinus tachycardia but there's not much to do about that.) Afterwards, my cardiologist took me off my Flecainide and Diltiazem and put me on 10mg of Nadolol which I can increase to 20mg after a week if I feel like doing so.
Avatar n tn I pretty much have the same thing. Do you have diabetes or high blood pressure? I was on Lisinopril and i ended up in the ER for the blood pressure medicine. It's called Paresthesia. They put me on something new. I feel a lot better but now I wonder if it's something else. It keeps me from sleeping and it wakes me up. Before when I was on Lisinopril sometimes it would fire in the same spot multiple times and i had problems walking. It has not been that bad since.
5617263 tn?1374501466 I had another bout of A-fib yesterday and went to the VA hospital ER. The doctor there did not understand why they changed my meds to diltiazem instead of upping the dose of metaprolol. He put me back on metaprolol (200 extended release pill), told me to stop the diltiazem. My blood pressure this morning was 121/74, heartbeat 71. I'm a bit dizzy at times but overall feel alright.
Avatar m tn My doctor seemed somewhat reluctant to add the Diltiazem but said lets try it. My Blood pressure has been around 155/95. His reluctance just seems to scare me. Should I try it or should I not? If I do start taking it should I take it with the metoprolol or at different times?
Avatar m tn However my blood pressure seams to be increasing.highest172/108p63 in the morning, but usually 140/95 pulse 70. If it stays high I think I will start monocor again, maybe 1.25 mg to see what happens. What do you think?
Avatar f tn Make sure your doctor looks at you ECG about 7 to 10 days after starting the med. Your blood pressure is ok. It should get better with exercise and weight loss. You have a good attitude and are on the right path.
