1924139 tn?1322798705 From my experience no but people do grow out of it if they are lucky enough our healed from it. I was on Dilantin, Phenobarbital and Lamictal three years ago. My Dr took me off of Dilantin and no more problems. I was on Dilantin over twenty years and i was scared. Let me know what happens because depending on your dosage you would be off of it or almost by now. I wish you the best.
Avatar m tn 8 mg twice a day phenobarbital as well as adding another 500 mg keppra to what he was taking. He has been very drowsy and started stumbling and falling into walls. He is also dragging his back feet like he's not picking up his feet. I'm very worried about my baby. Has anyone else had this experience? I talked to the vet and am going back to just 500mg of keppra with the phenobarbital twice daily. Any advice would be much appreciated.
956521 tn?1246582112 The reason he stopped taking his meds is because the doctor put him on phenobarbital and he has a hard time getting up in the morning and getting around. A long time ago when we first met he was on Dilantin and I think I am going to ask the Dr. to put him back on it because that seemed to work the best for him and he just cant get used to the phenobarbital and he still gets the shakes.
Avatar n tn As this occurs, the margin between an intoxicating dosage and fatal dosage becomes smaller. Symptoms of acute intoxication with phenobarbital include unsteady gait, slurred speech, and sustained nystagmus. Mental signs of chronic intoxication include confusion, poor judgment, irritability, insomnia, and somatic complaints . Please consult a neurologist and discuss this with him . If the drug is discontinued after some time , you need not worry . Hope this helps you . Take care and regards !
Avatar n tn Many essential oils are extremely dangerous for dogs, often because they are too concentrated and/or cause toxic effects and symptoms. They should only ever be considered under the advice and supervision of a vet - and after researching very carefully the source and quality of the product itself. Oils produced for humans are not generally suitable or safe for use on dogs.
Avatar n tn Hi, My 6 yr old chihuahua has just been diagnosed with epilepsy. He has been having seizures everyday for the past week. My vet just put him on Phenobarbita for the seizures. He took his first dose on Monday and it is Wed and he is still having them, although they don't seem as intense. Does anyone know how long these drugs take to work and if it is a guarantee that they will stop the seizures.

Avatar n tn The only antibiotic that has ever been shown to interfere with birth control levels and effectiveness is a medicine called rifampin which is used to treat tuberculosis. Rifampin may also interfere with the birth control patch and vaginal ring so if you are taking it, be sure to use a back-up, non-hormonal (i.e. condom) form of birth control.

2015036 tn?1332997788 My doctor wanted me to start with the Dilantin first, but then I read that bone-thinning and excess facial hair can be the some of the side effects. (So, I'm going with Tegretol.) I had no idea about the risk of leukemia! Are you okay?
Avatar m tn 5 kgs and was issued 15mg tablets, to be divided in half and taken twice a day. SInce taking the medication, my dog has been acting very different. He wanders relessly around the house, low energy and lethargic, staring as if in a trance, flying through air as if he's superdog. IT's all so unusual. Can you please share with me if you have experienced this with your pet? It's very sad to watch him go through this, and more so because I don't know what more I could be doing.
Avatar f tn The only unfortunate part of my story is that I take 350mg of dilantin daily and 2000mg of depakene or volproic acid daily. Over time Dr.U said this could damage my liver and what I am noticing is I can't lose weight no matter how hard I try. Question- 1. Is there anyone out there taking the approx. dosage of meds as I? 2.

Avatar m tn Right now I am actually on Keppra and Topamax and they have both kept me seizure free for over 3+ years and I have no side effects. My memory isn't that great but I'm not sure I can blame the drugs. The two of those as a combo, for me, are wonderful!
Avatar f tn When I was on Tegretol, I had many diagnoses for glasses and each year the prescription got worse and my eye sight seemed dull and in fact the whole world seemed dull to my senses. It was like looking at the world with someone elses eyes not my own. While walking around the sidewalks, I sometimes came upon stop signs or red lights telling me not to cross the streets but, in my mind while on Tegretol, I went right ahead and crossed the street anyways. I had no sense of danger what-so-ever.
Avatar f tn it can also cause nystagmus, signs of cerebellar problems like ataxia. Apart from these it can also cause swollen gums and lips and easy bruising and bleeding. Hope this helps!
Avatar n tn I took 2 old, and 1 new for about a month, then 2 new and 1 old, and am now on 3 new dilantin 100mg. every day. I have been on this for about 2 weeks, and I have not had any problem at all. I do feel kinda nervous about it, though, and never leave home without my medical card in my wallet. (something I never even had to think about with the old dilantin). How about you? Are you on the new capsules? If so, how are you doing?
