Digoxin wpw

Common Questions and Answers about Digoxin wpw

Avatar n tn It was brought under control with digoxin and propranolol, but when they realized it was WPW, they took her off the digoxin. She has had a couple of episodes since we left the hospital, but we were able to stop them with an ice bag on the face. Has anyone else dealt with WPW in an infant? Got any observations or suggestions?
Avatar n tn I am a 37 year old woman. When I was 18 yrs. old I had surgery for WPW. About 15 years ago I was experiencing some irregular heart beats and went to a Cardiologist. He discovered (echo) that I have a Bicuspid AV but no leaking and nothing to worry about. A month or so ago I began to notice similar irregular beats....sometimes slow, sometimes fast, occasional skip altogether. Shortness of breath and feeling like my hearts going to jump out of my chest.
624571 tn?1326923969 Hi, I was given Atenolol at the beginning. My cardio said ADD this Tambocor (Flecainide) in. I was crying and refuse to take it. Then he wrote Digoxin and Flecainide. I told him I'll get vomit with Digoxin. Then he put Verapamil and Flecainide. I was spinning to sleep every night. I took the verapamil off by myself. Just the Flecainide by itself was fine. After 2 months, my heart beats very irregular. Big thumb here and there. Looks like restart every few minutes.
4356842 tn?1353312209 Been taking digoxin since being diagnosed. I am pretty sure I have had svt all my life, I do recall having attacks when I was younger, but three years ago is when it go bad and more frequent. My cardio told me at first that he things surgery is a last resort for me. I am tired of dealing with the episodes. I feel lucky that their not that bad and that they are tolerable. I am just worried about having the ablation and coming out worse than what I am now.
Avatar m tn It only became disruptive in my life after I reached my 40s. Most svts are not a threat in a healthy heart. WPW has a bit of a higher risk due to the ventricle also being involved. But if she has something like possibly avnrt and her episodes are very rare then there isn't a need to rush into an ablation.
Avatar n tn I took Digoxin for a number of years in reponse to an atrial fibrillation event. My new physician did not feel I needed to be on it any longer. What are the side effects of discontinuing this medication? I have been off it for several months and some odd changes in my body.
Avatar n tn s explanation where he states digoxin is used to treat irregular heartbeats. I was on digoxin for a few months following my congested heart failue event. It is my understanding the medication is used to increase contractility of the pumping chambers. My medication for stablizing heart rate is a beta blocker (coreg) and an ACE inhibitor. My research: "Digoxin is contraindicated in patients with ventricular fibrillation.
Avatar f tn However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes. There are so many newer drugs now that are far more effective. My basic understanding of Digoxin is that it works on the heart's electrical system and decreases the heart rate, but increases each stroke volume.
Avatar n tn However, assuming all these other factors were normal, there are other, much less toxic medications than amiodarone that have been routinely used and are better tolerated for longer periods of time in patients with SVT. I would recommend that you discuss whether using medications, such as digoxin or one from the class of the beta-blockers, would be possible with your cardiologist prior to considering long term therapy with amiodarone.
Avatar f tn Going from my experience, everytime I had an ecg the wpw delta wave showed up on the ecg. did your dr say you had wpw?
Avatar n tn I have WPW. At my work, they have defibrillators placed around the office in case someone has a heart attack. I worry that a defibrillator would not work on me since I have WPW, and may do significant harm. Is this correct?
705586 tn?1314224932 I was treated back in 2001 with digoxin since I can not tolerate beta blockers because of my low blood pressure. I was on medication for about two years and did not have any more SVT's. My doctor took me off meds and I was SVT clear for about 4 years. This past Thanksgiving I had an SVT but was also sick with a bad gall bladder. It seems that when my stomach gets full of gass/ or is full it can trigger an event.
353597 tn?1247279830 m terrified now thinking that something is horribally wrong and that I just developed WPW or that I have Long qt because this physician that I saw today said I had wpw from the results of the ekg because of the atria that was misfiring. I'm horribally confused. I had a 12 lead ekg done 6 months ago at the EP doctors office and it was fine... no worries my ep doctor said. NOw all of a sudden this physician (not my ep doctor) is saying I may have wpw...
Avatar f tn i hev a question concerning digoxin....wat is its effect in the body. I mean its pharmacokinetic effects. i am having a hard time searching the net for it...
Avatar f tn Individuals who have recurring tachycardias because of this abnormal pathway are said to have the WPW syndrome. However, some individuals have the WPW pathway, but no tachycardia. "The presence of two pathways (the normal one and the accessory one) between the atria and ventricles poses a risk of developing a "short circuit" of the normal electrical pathway, which can result in an abnormally fast heart rate (tachycardia)..
Avatar n tn AFib in the setting of WPW often goes away after the WPW is fixed. What I would recommend to a patient in my office is to consider an ablation to cure the WPW and possibly even the AFib. There is a chance that you wouldn't need the atenolol or flecainide. It is tough to answer your question because it depends on if your afib is caused by the WPW or if the AFib is independent of the WPW. The only way to know for sure is to ablate the WPW and see if the afib comes back.
Avatar n tn As this is almost 100% of the cause of my WPW incidents. Hence the ativan. The anxiety only sets in once the WPW has hit it's peak. Then the anxiety releases more adrenaline, which makes the WPW worse to deal with.No WPW symptoms,no anxiety. No stress, no WPW. So it's a snowball effect. That's why I was asking about medications, and if anyone has had any experience.
Avatar n tn I have had symptom of wpw since I was a small child. My dad also had wpw but nobody put a name to it. They called it PAT short for premature atrial contractions so I've lived with it for years till I had to have an EKG for surgery. They found it and I was symptom free. Meaning I did not feel it but it showed up. I think it is inherited. I think for me that stress, nervousness, too much caffiene, too much nicotine can put me into a wpw cycle. Also Benadryl puts me in it.
Avatar m tn I have heard of inderal being used to treat WPW however never in the long term. My friend and neighbor had WPW and got a catheter ablation to fix the issue. If I had WPW, I would get an ablation as fast as I could. I am no doctor but if you have an accessory pathway in your heart which could potentially cause dangerous tachy arrhythmia's, wouldnt it be more prudent to ablate the problem instead of taking pills??
Avatar n tn and this year is borderline abnormal with WPW? (with a question mark). A general doctor asked me to go see a cardiologist to get his opinion so I did. The cardiologist said my graph last year and this year is the SAME. He said he is quite sure I do not have WPW but he cannot be 100% certain. He also said my pulse rate is normal. I don't have any symptoms so he gave me two solutions.
