Avatar m tn It is likely the patient had acute colchicine toxicity brought on by the addition of erythromycin and superimposed on chronic colchicine intoxication secondary to renal and hepatic impairment. The patient improved with supportive therapy and intensive hemodialysis and was discharged on day 70 of hospitalization. Another report describes two fatal cases of agranulocytosis due to presumed interaction between colchicine and clarithromycin, a potent CYP450 3A4 inhibitor.

Avatar n tn Some syphilis bacteria are resistant to all macrolide antibiotics -- azithromycin, clarithromycin (Biaxin), and erythromycin. These strains are common in some geographic areas and apparently absent in others. Unfortunately, the technology to determine resistance is complex and expensive, and therefore data are not available from most geographic areas.
Avatar n tn g. erythromycin, minocycline and sulphamethoxazole) has demonstrated poor efficacy and high relapse rates. (Tigecycline is a derivative of Minocycline – see previous) Clarithromycin is active against most strains of M. abscessus, and current expert opinion recommends clarithromycin monotherapy for localised cutaneous disease, and combination therapy including clarithromycin and parenteral agents for treatment of disseminated infection, pulmonary infection or extensive cutaneous disease.
Avatar m tn Also experiencing sensation of sitting on a golf ball in the perirectal area at times. GP did not seem concerned, no tests, but gave me clarithromycin/metronidazole 10 day dose and symptoms(mostly penile tip pain sometimes hours at a time) still persist. Could you please offer advise as to whether this could be a ureaplasm or myco? No way this is NG/Chlam right? Do I need any further tests, treatments, follow up?? My GP does not seem to be an expert in this area .
Avatar m tn She was also menstruating at the time. I was treated and the symptoms have since gone away. I contacted female A and urged her to get tested as well. She claims to have had no other sexual intercourse, at least in the past several years. Still, she went to be tested. She had a vaginal swab taken for analysis, as well as a visual check on the internal portion of her vagina. About 6 days later, the lab results were in, and the doctor informed her that she did not have Chlamydia.
197575 tn?1215532624 Is there a difference between a complex nodule and a complex cystic nodule? I know complex means both solid and cystic. My friend's ultrasound call it a complex cystic nodule. Thanks.
Avatar n tn Sure, there are lots of antibiotics. If you're allergic to azithromycin, you also probably can't take clarithromycin and erythromycin. And if doxycycline doesn't work, there's probably no used in taking tetracycline. So that does eliminate a lot of them. If the doxycycline isn't working, either your tests are consistently false positives, or you have a resistant strain. It's not typical, but it does happen.
926651 tn?1244140366 I have been on Coumadin for most of the last two years following two episodes of clots in my right leg. My INR varied between 1.8 and 2.4 and most often was between 2.0 and 2.2. In those two years may other medications, my diet, and level of exercise remained mostly the same. My Coumadin dose was 5mg four days a week and 7.5mg three days a week for most of the two years. Now my INR has suddenly jumped up. Yesterday it tested at 4.9, so my doctor had me retested today and it was 4.3.
Avatar f tn I took 1500mg of Clarithromycin ER, and 1875mg of Amoxicillin that night. The following morning took another 1gm of the Clarithromycin ER & 1375mg of Amoxicillin. Still on Day 2 (only 24 post exposure) took 500mg Clarithromycin ER. The next day, today took Amoxicillin 500mg & Clarithromycin ER 500mg & Ceftiaxone 1gm IV (prefer not to explain but I am in healthcare).
Avatar f tn However, if you do need antibiotics after extraction, amoxicillin and metronidazole, erythromycin( erythromycin, azithromycin, clarithromycin) and metronidazole are commonly prescribed for periodontal infection. You may address your condern to your dentist.
Avatar m tn But here is my question. I ended up with a respiratory infection and the Doc gave me Clarithromycin, I have to take 2X 500mg a day for ten days. I started the medication the day of the sexual encounter. Will Clarithromycin help clear up any of the STD's that I might have caught during the act? There is not too much info on Clarithromycin and STD's out there. I know one thing it is sure working on my respiratory infection big time. Thanks for your responses!
Avatar f tn Hi. A week ago I started getting a sore throat.I went to my doc on Monday and by then my tonsils were pretty swollen and had white lumps on them. I've had a few strep throats during my life so I figured that was it. My glands were fairly swollen too. Anyway she prescribed me Calvepen, which she said is pure penicillin. On Tuesday, I went to my own Doc (a different one) who prescribed me clavamel (apparently it's penicillin based).
Avatar n tn Sometimes it is dry and does not itch and sometimes it raw and itches. It is a dark reddish/brownish in color and is slightly raised. Its been flaring up in me for the past few years. I've just never had a doctor that I could go to. I always avoid harsh cleansers but it never seems to completely go away. Any idea what this could possibly be and something I could do for it? I haven't really tried anything as far as medications because I don't want to accidentally make it worse.
Avatar m tn Clarithromycin isn't the treatment of choice for any STD. However, it would effectively prevent most cases of gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, or nongonococcal urethritis (NGU). But not all. Antibiotics, including clarithromycin, have no effect on viruses and therefore cannot prevent herpes, HPV, or HIV.
Avatar m tn He had some left over clarithromycin 500 mg about 10 days worth and he began taking that. I told him he should just get tested but he dosent have insurance currently and is unemployed. He said even if I have an std clarithromycin should clear it up its a very strong anti-bacterial antibiotic. Is this true?
1464587 tn?1307491605 I also have intense pressure in my head..... intercranial pressure I guess its considered? and dizziness and intense muscle pain and tightness...... so bad in fact the pain is soooooo intense from the muscles being contracted that I cant even breath or move, even with muscle relaxers and muscle rub....... 1264863 tn?1391118193 I just remember reading that there was an interaction between opiates and erythromycin that affected absorption of one (or the other). It was when I had to undergo a round of antibiotics myself, a few months back.I was told to watch for extra dowsiness or changes in how I felt from my meds. It ended up not affecting me and I was able to take the full course of antibiotics without any probs. But we are all different critters and Luv2, you are new to Fentanyl.
1551642 tn?1294351934 s been well over a month since I stopped taking Clarithromycin (sp?). As soon as I stopped taking it (and even a few days before), I was having tenderness in BOTH sides, not just my GM (left) breast. My first thought was definitely that it was starting again. But after a week or two of tenderness and shooting pains, it just stopped. My breast is almost normal again.
Avatar f tn In the mean time, if augmentin and clindamycin are not effective, I would try erythromycin family drug, such as azithromycin or clarithromycin , paired with metronidazole(flagyl). If itis possible, antibiotic sensitivity test can be done in the lab to determine which antibiotic is most effective for the cultured bacteria. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Importantly, differences between subtype 1a and 1b (by far the most frequently encountered genotype 1 subtypes in clinical practice) include different efficacies of antiviral drugs and different resistance profiles to such drugs. Indeed, several HCV inhibitors appear to have selective activity against different HCV genotype 1 subtypes, both in vitro and in vivo....
Avatar m tn what is the difference between addiction and dependence? I was reading another post and someone mentioned that he/she thought someone was dependent not addicted.. I'm just curious. Thanks in advance for any responses.
