my anxiety is through the roof i started taking erythromycin,250mg,been really ill since taking them,read loads of bad reports from them,i have stopped taking them but i am scared that i will have a long term effect off them,i took 7,felt sick,tired hungry the works,has anyone else ever taken this horrid tablet,and if so were you like me on it.

First 2 events was Erythromycin and recent one was Clarithromycin which I discovered belong to the same group as Erythromycin. Is there a solution to this torturing symptoms? Anyone out there has such symptoms and managed to resolve it?
Some syphilis bacteria are resistant to all macrolide antibiotics -- azithromycin, clarithromycin (Biaxin), and erythromycin. These strains are common in some geographic areas and apparently absent in others. Unfortunately, the technology to determine resistance is complex and expensive, and therefore data are not available from most geographic areas.
In one case report, a patient with familial Mediterranean fever and amyloidosis involving the kidney, liver, and gastrointestinal tract was admitted to the hospital with life-threatening colchicine toxicity after a two-week course of erythromycin, a moderate CYP450 3A4 inhibitor. During the year prior to admission, the patient had developed recurrent diarrhea and abdominal pain and demonstrated toxic levels of colchicine on two occasions.
Sure, there are lots of antibiotics. If you're allergic to azithromycin, you also probably can't take clarithromycin and erythromycin. And if doxycycline doesn't work, there's probably no used in taking tetracycline. So that does eliminate a lot of them. If the doxycycline isn't working, either your tests are consistently false positives, or you have a resistant strain. It's not typical, but it does happen.
However, if you do need antibiotics after extraction, amoxicillin and metronidazole, erythromycin( erythromycin, azithromycin, clarithromycin) and metronidazole are commonly prescribed for periodontal infection. You may address your condern to your dentist.
Also experiencing sensation of sitting on a golf ball in the perirectal area at times. GP did not seem concerned, no tests, but gave me clarithromycin/metronidazole 10 day dose and symptoms(mostly penile tip pain sometimes hours at a time) still persist.
Could you please offer advise as to whether this could be a ureaplasm or myco? No way this is NG/Chlam right?
Do I need any further tests,treatments,follow up?? My GP does not seem to be an expert in this area .
Clarithromycin isn't the treatment of choice for any STD. However, it would effectively prevent most cases of gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, or nongonococcal urethritis (NGU). But not all.
Antibiotics, including clarithromycin, have no effect on viruses and therefore cannot prevent herpes, HPV, or HIV.
Resistance rates of 50% have been reported for ureaplasma and doxycycline. M hominis is resistant to erythromycin, azithromycin, and clarithromycin. Levofloxacin, another common drug, also has been shown to have a high failure rate for M genitalium. This is why knowing which infection you have is very valuable in determining the correct treatment.
Also, being in Africa, I'd make sure you had a full battery of tests 3 months from now to look for all other STDs, especially HIV.
So, had brief encounter with sex worker. I am a male and she a female, just for clarity and accuracy of response though I'm confident that this is irrelevant. In any case, I received oral sex lasting only a couple minutes then shortly after completed with handjob. Apparently there are no reported FDEs due to azithromycin. However, other drugs in the same class, such as erythromycin and clarithromycin, can cause FDE, so for sure azithro could do it. However, it's apparently rare. If your doctor and/or a dermatologist agrees FDE is a good bet, perhaps s/he will want to consider writing up a case report for submission to a medical journal.

Hi there I have a erythrasma rash that won't go away . It is in my groin . So going to the gym is painful walking for long periods is painful and even working long hours is painful . I was on erythromycin for two weeks and it appeared to mostly clear up but then it has come back and won't seem to go away with erythromycin cream and diaper rash cream over top to stop the sweating . I have not had erythromycin for a good two weeks . I use 100% unscented products and I am 209 pounds .
As fas as I know, nexium (esomeprazole) only interferes with biaxin (clarithromycin). It heightens the amount of esomeprazole by inhibiting the degradation of esomeprazole. I took 1500mg of Clarithromycin ER, and 1875mg of Amoxicillin that night. The following morning took another 1gm of the Niacin ER & 1375mg of Amoxicillin.
Can Erythromycin and Benzoyl Peroxide Topical Gel cause a vaginial yeast infection.
But here is my question. I ended up with a respiratory infection and the Doc gave me Clarithromycin, I have to take 2X 500mg a day for ten days. I started the medication the day of the sexual encounter.
Will Clarithromycin help clear up any of the STD's that I might have caught during the act?
There is not too much info on Clarithromycin and STD's out there. I know one thing it is sure working on my respiratory infection big time.

In the mean time, if augmentin and clindamycin are not effective, I would try erythromycin family drug, such as azithromycin or clarithromycin , paired with metronidazole(flagyl). If itis possible, antibiotic sensitivity test can be done in the lab to determine which antibiotic is most effective for the cultured bacteria. Hope this helps.
