Avatar m tn Has anyone spoken with their doctor and were ENCOURAGED to take anything? Also, has anyone gone through treatment and decided to take any supplements without their doctor's encouragement? What were your experiences? Thanks!
Avatar n tn Dietary supplements may help some type 2 diabetics, but in the case of the type 1 diabetic, dietary changes cannot fix the root problem, which is that the body's autoimmune system has damaged the pancreas. If the pancreas can no longer produce insulin, there is nothing that can be eaten that will help lower the glucose levels, for ONLY INSULIN can do that. Consistent glucose levels happen when the amount of insulin injected is a good match for the food/drink ingested.
Avatar n tn Hi Nadia: I took the liberty of copying some background information on Hulda Clark from Quackwatch.com so you can put her claims in a more proper, unbiased context. Avatar n tn I knew for 8 years before I treated. I finally decided to go for treatment because 2 of 3 docs said I should--mostly based on my genotype (3a is easy, right????) and their belief that you really oughta get rid of this virus if possible. I have two kids (8 and 10)--and I couldn't risk dying on them. I didn't know about this board before I started treatment. With this board AND with my own personal experience at week 17/24, I wish I hadn't decided to do this.
Avatar m tn I think most doctors recommend antivirals because it has minimal side effects and easier to tolerate long term as opposed to Peg Interferon (some on the HepC forum referred to Interferon as doing hard time). Combo treatment is taking 2 antivirals to cross protect against resistance. It attacks the virus on 2 fronts to reduce it adaptive abilities. Important because you may may to take antivirals for the rest of your life. Always think of the long term.

1062275 tn?1254664952 I am a type 2 diabetic that managed blood sugar levels fine until a diagnosis of CRPS (formally known as RSD). The pain from the CRPS seems to rake havoc on managing the diabetes and thus the two conditions feed off each other. I have had 7 lumbar blocks and no relief. I have been on many neuro medication known - all causing drastic side effects. The worst was anemia. I've always had a severe sensitivty to medications, even over the counter medications.
Avatar m tn If you have studied engineering or math you will know that there is essentially no difference between 250,000 and 85,000 on the logarithmic scale, which is how viral load is measured. 2 log is a significant difference in viral load and is used to indicate that treatment is working. So if you viral load is not reduced to 2,500 or more, there is no difference no real difference in the amount of virus in your body.
Avatar f tn You didn't mention if he has been tested for diabetes, but being overweight and having a sweet tooth puts him at risk for diabetes. Hep C treatments can be very hard on the body and diabetes can complicate treatment. If he doesn't have diabetes, he should try very hard to prevent it with diet. This results in an accumulation of free radicals that can destroy nerve function. In one study, ALA brought about a significant reduction of neuropathic symptoms in 23 patients.
