Avatar m tn Hello, According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the most effective products available are sunless- or self-tanning lotions that contain dihydroxyacetone (DHA) as the active ingredient. Another popular form of sunless tanning is the bronzer. These powders and moisturizers, once applied, create a tan that can easily be removed with soap and water. More like make-up, these products tint or stain your skin only until they are washed off.
467126 tn?1283144858 Pregnancy and tanning is always a touchy subject. Some salon owners don’t allow it, while others think it’s completely fine—in fact, many female salon owners say they tanned throughout their own pregnancies. What I hadn’t heard before was a question regarding the safety of sunless tanning while pregnant.
412873 tn?1329174455 Sunless tanning products may contain anywhere between 1 to 15 percent DHA; the higher the DHA level, the darker the tan produced. Manufacturers of sunless tan products claim that DHA is a simple carbohydrate sugar solution but a toxicologist who investigated the harmful effects of tanning beds disagrees. Even the FDA has not approved the use of DHA in spray tan booths. The FDA previously approved the use of DHA as an ingredient in tanning products but strictly for topical application only.
415867 tn?1323365503 However, if you use a fake tan spray or a spray-tanning booth, then you may inhale some of the DHA or erythrulose. We don’t know how it will affect you or your baby if you inhale the chemicals. To be on the safe side during pregnancy, try to stick with fake tans that you can apply by rubbing, not spraying. If you do want to use a spray, make sure the room is well aired. Also protect your eyes and lips with barrier cream or petroleum jelly.
5049711 tn?1364572195 Depends where you go, definitely ask a doctor but I know that the one by me uses a product that's purely a DHA protein so I'm assuming its not bad but I'm gonna ask my doc too cuz I'm a pasty mofo, but you can go in a tanning bed, if you go 3 times a week for no longer then 8 min your fine ( depending on the bed), if stick with the lower beds that produce more UVB rays ( the burning rays) because they produce more vitamin d which is essential for the baby, the only danger factor
2102940 tn?1333643102 I've been tanning for prom and after tanning in a bronzing bed several hours later I started hurting on my side. I looked at my side and notice a red rash or burn spot the size of a baseball. It was painful not itchy but hurt. I took some IB for pain and put some cream on the area for the inflammation and went to bed. Got up this morning and the pain has stopped and the spot is all red. Doesn't itch or hurt it's just on my skin and ugly.
Avatar f tn The FDA says that it is safer to have DHA from a non fish source. I say the DHA is straight from the fish and not good to take! I would not take it or stop. I take the one Enfimil makes and it is I think $11 a month from Walmart and it is from a none fish source. I would tell your ob you wnat another one if you don't want that one!
Avatar f tn First time I went tanning I used a tanning oil. I am mixed race with light skin but was in there a little longer than I should have been by a couple minutes. Well when I got out my tan was glorious. Until I got home and noticed a pancake size discoloration (brown) in blotches in one spot on my thigh. No lie, it made me so nervous and sick to my stomach. I do not have any health insurance and I am not able to get it checked out but any ideas on what this could be?

Avatar f tn I have bad acne right now. The only way I've ever had clear skin results is by tanning. What's the rules with tanning??
Avatar f tn I talked to one of my friends that used to work at a tanning bed and uses the same tanning lotion as me. The same thing happened to her & said it was some kind of fungis, there was a type of lotion that you can buy to help get rid of this. I never bought the lotion but the bumps stopped coming after tanning but I still get the white spots.
975514 tn?1324997938 My thought, and I think my doctors idea, is to put a lot of sunscreen on so that you can protect your skin, but still benefit from the light in the tanning bed. Just curious: I've never been in a tanning bed, so I am not sure how much clothing you could actually wear. Does anyone know?
Avatar f tn how long after you give birth do you have to wait to go tanning in a tanning bed ?
Avatar f tn This could be something caused by the treatment or it could very well be the tanning too- sometimes tanning can cause dark patches. It will be important to have a doctor take a look at it before you have any other laser hair treatments, just to be sure of the cause.
Avatar f tn Does ur prenatal vitamins have dha? Is it ok to take them tablets with dha? The one i take doesn't have it but im trying to get gummies to substitute but all gummies seem to have dha.
Avatar f tn Okay so my current prenatal vitamin does not have Dha in it...is it possible for me to take a Dha vitamin in conjunction with my prenatal vitamin?...if so what is a good brand to take?
1730786 tn?1310092814 Hi all, So I have tanned before and I have fairly sensitive skin with lots of freckles, but usually after I continue tanning in the bed and slowly building up my time, my skin gets use to the UV rays. It takes time but I can usually get there. Until now.. It all started a few months ago when I was trying to build up a base tan before summer and after about a week or so of tanning I noticed that I was getting this rash looking thing on my chest.
Avatar f tn for the past few months I have been going to a tanning bed and I've noticed itchy red bumps on certain parts of my skin. I've cut down on the tanning bed but the bumps have gotten worse. I am aware it is probably a heat rash and the tanning bed is causing but I would like to know what can help prevent it and what can help take it away or calm it down?
Avatar m tn I have been going in tanning beds on and off for the past several years. Last week I went into a stand-up bed for less than my normal time and later that night developed a rash/reddened welts on my upper arms, neck, and upper chest. It had been a couple weeks since I last tanned but I have done that before and tanned for the same amount of time, without a problem. I always use a lotion and haven't switched it for several months. I am not on any new medication either.

Avatar f tn 00 and 16:00, is tanning still dangerous? Because i have heard that just tanning a little is already a negative reaction to the sun .. Also, are "tan enhacer" and "sun preparing" pills any use?
