Common Questions and Answers about Dha supplement take during pregnancy

dha

Avatar f tn If I take the one with no DHA is it ok to takr Advocare Omega Plex supplement on the side? Or should I take the vitamin with DHA and take iron on the side? These have me confused!
Avatar f tn i don't remember my research on this fully, but i do recall that plant derived ALA's are not biologically equivalent to marine derived DHA. i take fish oil supplementation for DHA. the only concern there is impurities like mercury present in the fish oil - there are brands that make DHA capsules that have been purified for this purpose. some brands will even go as far to source their oils from the purest fish and highest standards, so that purification isn't even necessary.

566175 tn?1278430472 I take this two step vitamin with DHA being a second step, CVS brand. No stool softener though. I think to get a stool softener you need prescription vitamins.
Avatar f tn He told me the less you take during pregnancy the better. I also have to supplement Calcium as I am lactose intolerant. Suggested that I am better off to find foods that carry the same vitamins as your body absorbs them better. Much cheaper than taking a supplement. I didn't take Omega 3's with my first and she is a very smart, healthy 27 month old. All healthy foods contain all sorts of vitamins which are very important for brain development.
1885735 tn?1322375616 I take both, a prenatal vitamin and a dha supplement. I have been since I was 4 weeks (when I found out), and now I'm 27 1/2 weeks. I always take them with food though.
Avatar n tn I take Jamieson brand multivitamin + dha supplement, plus folic acid. I've never had a problem with them in regards to making me sick, the pharmacist suggested to take them after dinner and before bed and it works for me!
Avatar f tn My Dr told me at my second prenatal visit that my vitamin D count was low and that I needed to take 1000 mg everyday along with my prenatal. In my first pregnancy I didn't have this so I eventually stopped taking my prenatal vitamins but with this pregnancy I was starting to slack with the prenatal again until my Dr told me to take my prenatal along with Vitamin D. I've been diligent with taking my vitamins since. Has anyone else been Vitamin D deficient and had to take a supplement?

Avatar f tn FISH OIL has both DHA plus EPA. The lattest is not good for pregnancy but the DHA is good, so don't take fish oil as they sell it, get DHA alone. All pharmacies have it.
1492421 tn?1290300515 I buy from our local health food store and the ladies there said you can never get enough folic acid. I take the dha kinda for the same reason, most people are low in dha and its extremely important for brain development.
Avatar f tn I'm taking DHA per my Dr bc he asked me was I going to breastfeed and I told him yes!
Avatar f tn ve taken the extra DHA vit during all of my pregnancies. I also take a calcium vit before bed, the extra calcium is good for U and baby. I don't think my dr said anything to me either but I told him when at my 1st apt he wanted to know everything I was taking, vits & if any other medications. I think 8 yrs ago when I had my 1st baby I had read about DHA in a prego mag. FYI check Ur face products too, some ingredients U can't use when prego. Salicylic acid, retina A, etc.
Avatar f tn my prenatal gummies have dha in them as well as folic acid. im not sure what it is but i told my doc that i was taking them and she said it was good.

1281900 tn?1320336402 Supplements containing EPA may not be recommended for infants or small children because they upset the balance between DHA and EPA during early development. Pregnant women should talk to their doctor before taking fish oil supplements. Fish oil capsules may cause minor side effects, such as loose stools, abdominal discomfort, and belching. In addition, they may prolong bleeding time slightly. If you take blood-thinning medication, talk to your doctor before taking fish oil.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know if I can just take an omega-3 supplement, or should I eat all the foods this app is telling to to get it. I'm not much of a fish eater.
Avatar f tn So after doing a little research and a lot of reading of labels, settled on the BrainStrong OTC prenatal. Plenty of folic acid, iron, some calcium though I take a supplement just in case, a good dose of DHA which is good for brain development. Pills are a little big, so if you have a lot of morning sickness might not work for you, but mine was pretty mild so I do okay getting them down with a lot of water.

Avatar f tn I heard you can take Flintstone vitamins instead, but check with your obgyn first. I know my friend had to take those when she was pregnant because pre-natal made her sick.
Avatar f tn Not sure if they contain fish but you can take children's vitamins. My sister had a hard time swallowing pills so her doc. Said she can take 2 children's chewables a day. I've also had other friends do this during their pregnancies.
