1225070 tn?1344709174 It has the same if not better benefits and it comes from a plant and not from fish so there is not any mercury or anything bad in it. I never really got a straight answer on the fish oil from him as to why or if it really was bad, so I stopped taking it just in case it was bad; however, DH takes it now as it is beneficial to him!
Avatar n tn I have heard that allergies are triggered by proteins. If this is true would fish-oil from salmon trigger an allergy? I cannot eat salmon.
Avatar f tn I take regular omega 3 fish oil pills from vitamin shop in conjunction with my prenatals from cvs. U may want to look into dha specifically for pregnancy, but they're also way more expensive. Also check to make sure the fish oil comes from small fish like sardines or anchovy and that it doesn't contain soy. It's a lot to look into, but I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn The FDA says that it is safer to have DHA from a non fish source. I say the DHA is straight from the fish and not good to take! I would not take it or stop. I take the one Enfimil makes and it is I think $11 a month from Walmart and it is from a none fish source. I would tell your ob you wnat another one if you don't want that one!

7062279 tn?1388370086 DHA is in fish oil, and it's for baby's brain development. Some women don't like fish, or won't eat it because they're afraid of the mercury content, but the DHA in capsure form is mercury free, and has a lot of really good benefits for you and baby (if you weren't getting DHA from the pills, or from eating lots of fish, baby would just take the DHA in your body and use that, but you use it too, so you'd be in short supply).
1192727 tn?1282735542 DHA is a omega fatty acid but buy it by itself in pharmacies and NOT as FISH IOL becase fish iol has ETA as well and it may affect the baby. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is an omega-3 fatty acid. It is found in cold water fatty fish and fish oil supplements, along with eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Vegetarian sources of DHA come from seaweed.
Avatar f tn i don't remember my research on this fully, but i do recall that plant derived ALA's are not biologically equivalent to marine derived DHA. i take fish oil supplementation for DHA. the only concern there is impurities like mercury present in the fish oil - there are brands that make DHA capsules that have been purified for this purpose. some brands will even go as far to source their oils from the purest fish and highest standards, so that purification isn't even necessary.

Avatar m tn no it is not harmful it is a must, but the quality and concentration of epa and dha must be very high at 2-3g daily (fish oil quantity is not useful check epa/dha), most products are scam with very low dha/epa so useless.
Avatar f tn From what I can tell from his website, this is a multi-level company. I know nothing about this guy, but I wouldn't buy anything from a multi-level company. He's also an essential oil man, not a fish oil man. He is a naturopath, and for all I know makes a great batch of essential oils, but so do so many other companies, why buy from a multi-level pyramid scheme?
907968 tn?1292622204 So, I choke down the big tablets. I take fish oil tablets derived from mackeral, sardines and other wild fish. Often, fish oil derived from Atlantic and Chilean Salmon as well as BC fish are usually farmed raised and the oil is contaminated by the feed and also the feces of fish in close proximity. I'm curious... what is radio astronomy? Sounds very interesting.
Avatar m tn Abstract BACKGROUND Fish is a rich source of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosapentaenoic acid (DPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Although consumption of fish and n-3 PUFA has been reported to protect against the development of some types of cancer, little is known about its association with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
1885735 tn?1322375616 I take both, a prenatal vitamin and a dha supplement. I have been since I was 4 weeks (when I found out), and now I'm 27 1/2 weeks. I always take them with food though.

Avatar m tn That's not a high dose, but the above is correct in noting that not all fish oil is created equal.
688450 tn?1259468734 Just make sure that they are very reputable and investigate how their oil is produced and where the fish is harvested from and whether or not it comes from wild or farm raised fish like salmon for example. Most companies will have no problem on informing you on the purity of their product if they object, then they obviously have something to hide. As as many questions as you can. Good Luck!
Avatar n tn Fish oil is oil derived from the tissues of oily fish. Fish do not actually produce omega-3 fatty acids, but instead accumulate them by consuming either microalgae or prey fish that have accumulated omega-3 fatty acids. Problems of quality have been identified in periodic tests by independent researchers of marketed supplements containing fish oil and other marine oils. These problems include contamination, inaccurate listing of EPA and DHA levels, spoilage and formulation issues.
Avatar f tn What are your thoughts on taking fish oil or dha supplements through the third trimester for brain development? I'm thinking of doing it, I need to speak with my OB first, but I want some opinions :) Thanks!
Avatar f tn My prenatals came with a fish oil supplement for the dha.
657586 tn?1224587947 Hello ladies, If we all followed the "Don'ts" during pregnancy, we would all starve to death and so would our babies. I have 3 children and ttc #4. I ate fish and everything else under the sun when I was pregnant and I am happy to report that all were born BIG and healthy. They want your babies to receive DHA and EPA because it is good for brain development. Well those things come from fish and many other things that I'm sure your NOT supposed to consume...lol.
