Common Questions and Answers about Dha mercury

Avatar f tn i take fish oil supplementation for DHA. the only concern there is impurities like mercury present in the fish oil - there are brands that make DHA capsules that have been purified for this purpose. some brands will even go as far to source their oils from the purest fish and highest standards, so that purification isn't even necessary. i take this one. it is made specifically for pregnancy: http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/browse/sku_detail.jsp?id=YE-1021 hope this helps!
Avatar f tn The FDA says that it is safer to have DHA from a non fish source. I say the DHA is straight from the fish and not good to take! I would not take it or stop. I take the one Enfimil makes and it is I think $11 a month from Walmart and it is from a none fish source. I would tell your ob you wnat another one if you don't want that one!
7062279 tn?1388370086 re afraid of the mercury content, but the DHA in capsure form is mercury free, and has a lot of really good benefits for you and baby (if you weren't getting DHA from the pills, or from eating lots of fish, baby would just take the DHA in your body and use that, but you use it too, so you'd be in short supply). It is perfectly safe and even encouraged to help baby grow healthy. I take fish oil capsules on the side, in addition to my prenatal vitamin.
1756970 tn?1314376733 so i did thorough research and also working with my nutritionalist and she mentioned to me if i start taking a daily supplement of fish oil combined with efa and DHA of a dose of 3000 mg and increase the dosage of EFA eventually that it will help with the control of your moods and help the chemical imbalancement of the nerotransmitters. it supposingly will help with ADHD, depression, anxiety, and several other physical conditions. i was fascinated with what i learned.
Avatar f tn Are the Nature Made Fish oil 1200mg ok for me to take? Im taking a prenatal from Wholefoods called Baby & Me, but it has no Dha in it... so im taking fish oil, with no mercury in it... im wondering if that is Safe to take. Please help?!!
657586 tn?1224587947 s with at least 450mg of DHA, the form responsible for brain, nervous system, and eye development. DHA is ESSENTIAL for these things. As long as you are taking High quality fish oil which is low in mercury or eating fish that are low in mercury then all is fine! Eat away for the health and development of your baby!
688450 tn?1259468734 I wanted to know the same info when I was pregnant. I was taking Prenexa prenatals (which contains 250mg DHA) vitamins along with 2 fish oil pills daily. I read that the recommended daily amount is 300mgs, but that is conflicting as you mentioned. I think I was taking about 475mgs total daily...anyway, they say the asian culture eats tons of omega 3 fatty acids primarily from fresh fish and there has been no reportings of problems...other than very bright children : ) Which I hope I have!!
Avatar f tn I use a food-based rainbow brand that apparently has probiotics to help with constipation and can be taken on an empty stomach.
1095404 tn?1333992839 my mom told me today that krill oil is actually better for u than fish oil b/c it doesnt contain as much mercury. so if u could find krill oil w/ dha or take dha w/ it.. i might look for that.
Avatar f tn Recently I came across some information about fish oil which might contain mercury. Is it safe to go ahead with this vitamin?

Avatar f tn I'm actually take the Trader Joe's brand prenatal. My midwife said it was fine. Before that I was just taking Target brand. It has all of the right amounts of all of the important stuff. I'm also taking a non-mercury fish oil with DHA. I haven't had any stomach issues with my vitamins. I'm like you...I take them after dinner and they work their magic while I'm asleep. Hope that helps.
Avatar f tn Fish in general is a really bad no no raw or cooked. Its really high in mercury which causes serious birth defects or misscariages.
Avatar n tn A good one is Nordic Naturals marine algae EPA /DHA it is non gmo, and mercury free.hope this helps you!
Avatar f tn Supplements that are important, according to my neurologist are B12, B6 and Vitamin D, Fish Oil (omega 3's) She likes to see high B12 levels on blood tests, but B6 not out of range high as its one tied to nerve function and as it was explained to me, either too low or too high B6 levels are not good and can affect nerve function. I suggest you get blood tested for these before you start supplementing heavily. EPA DHA is always good for what ails you.
Avatar f tn You do want to be careful not to eat tuna or fish more than once or twice a week because of the high levels of mercury. You always want to make sure your meat is well done also. As for books, I love 'What to Expect When You're Expecting'. Excellent book!! I believe it has some recipes for foods that are great during pregnancy as well. As for positions....whatever you are comfortable with is fine. As long as your are not high risk or anything, nothing has to change.
Avatar f tn They're all good. Ask the pharmacist which they recommend. I take the cheaper brand, and it's just as good as the more expensive one. Some women find the prenatal pills make them feel sick, so you might have to experiment with which ones work best for you. In addition to my prenatals, I take Omega3 too, because I'm not eating all that much fish right now.
Avatar m tn According to the study, published in the American Journal of Epidemiology, men with higher levels of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) were two-and-a-half times more likely to have an aggressive form of prostate cancer. Something else stunned the research team: men with the highest amounts of trans-fatty acids in their blood appeared to have a 50 percent reduction in their risk of developing prostate cancer!
5787494 tn?1387148684 chicken, veggies, fruits, pasta, whole wheat bread, fish (as long as its low in mercury) but limit intake of fish its like 12 ounces a week, but full of DHA which is good for baby. Salmon is good to eat.
