1276890 tn?1271027818 I became vegan about a month ago and I have come to realize that now that my stomach has not been using enzymes to break down meat, dairy products, and some fats, I might have lost these enzymes. I am afraid that I should incorporate some fish and some good fats in my diet because not eating any will take a toll on my body. But everyone has a different opinion on what fats are really good.
Avatar n tn I just got a new prenatal vitamin through a health food store and my folic acid is 1000 and it had dha witch is really good.
1192727 tn?1282735542 DHA is a omega fatty acid but buy it by itself in pharmacies and NOT as FISH IOL becase fish iol has ETA as well and it may affect the baby. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is an omega-3 fatty acid. It is found in cold water fatty fish and fish oil supplements, along with eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Vegetarian sources of DHA come from seaweed.

Avatar f tn I take the over the counter brand called nature made, prenatal + dha. It's all in one gel capsule. All of the prescription prenatals made me sick as well, but this one doesn't make me sick at all :). Of course take it on a FULL stomach.
Avatar n tn I'm taking New Chapter Perfect Prenatal Multivitamin. It's made with organic vegetables and herbs. My husband actually purchased them for me while we were trying to conceive. Less than a month later, I became pregnant.

Avatar f tn I would like to eat more vegetables in my diet but I hate vegetables. Is there some good snack ideas but still low in calories and gives me my daily vegetables needs. I do like carrots corn green beans and greens.

Avatar f tn Leaky gut is a medically unrecognized condition in which proponents insist that undigested food escapes the intestines and floats around in the blood. The idea is that gluten molecules look enough like thyroid tissue that antibodies attack the thyroid, thinking it's the gluten. They've begun rephrasing this to "intestinal permeability", but the idea is the same.
Avatar n tn Since he drinks milk suggest making him milkshakes (milk, fruit, and ice cream blended) in place of milk at all meals for additional calories and protein. You stated he likes cheese, than add cheese to pasta, potatoes, or rice. Some tips for additional calories: If he likes pasta, then add meat or cheese sauces to the pasta instead of plain tomato sauce or plain pasta.
Avatar n tn Good ones will have NO gluten and NO grains (this includes rice and corn), a good protein source (meat, fish, eggs, tofu, or poultry), green leafy vegetables, sweet potato, berries and some other fruit, fish oil (containing DHA), vitamins, minerals, probiotics, and digestive enzymes. The good food does not have to every single ingredient that I have listed, but will contain many of the ingredients. Some good brands: Wellness Grain Free, Evo/Innova, Orijin canned only.
Avatar f tn   While cod liver oil is a potent source of EPA/DHA, containing as much as 1000-1200 mg in one tablespoon, it is also a concentrated source of vitamins A and D. Both vitamins A and D are fat-soluble, and become toxic at high dosage levels. Your body needs a small amount of cholesterol to function properly! You want to lower LDL cholesterol and raise HDL cholesterol, starting with your diet. practice portion control for a meal: Use your hand.
Avatar f tn So i visited a friend today and she looked at my prenatal vitamins that i had with me and was surprised they didn't have dha in them. She gave me some dha vitamins and recommended that i take them and continue to do so. My dr didn't mention dha. Am i alone in this?
Avatar f tn The FDA says that it is safer to have DHA from a non fish source. I say the DHA is straight from the fish and not good to take! I would not take it or stop. I take the one Enfimil makes and it is I think $11 a month from Walmart and it is from a none fish source. I would tell your ob you wnat another one if you don't want that one!
Avatar f tn Two recent studies confirm the benefit of vegetables. In one study, reported in the journal Neurology, October 2006, a group of 3,718 people over age 65 were followed and examined yearly. Researchers found that those who ate the highest amounts of green leafy vegetables had the slowest decline in cognitive function (thinking). People who ate at least 2.8 servings of vegetables a day had a 40 percent reduction in cognitive decline as compared to those who ate only one serving a day.
Avatar f tn t eat, like deli meats, certain cheeses, salad dressings, etc. In my 1st trimester, I ate healthy, oatmeal/toast, cream of wheat, salads with TONS of spinach, lots of fruits and veggies, also nuts and trail mix bars. But the 2nd and 3r trimesters I pretty much gave up eating healthy and just stayed with my regular diet (sandwiches, taco bell, mc Donald's) probably wasn't a good choice but hey! I have a healthy baby. Definitely stay away from fish with mercury...
Avatar f tn DHA is a kind of Omega 3 fatty acid (which is usually DHA+EPA) Omega 3 s are considered really beneficial for our brain and general health..and considered really good for fertility.. they're found in fatty fish or you can take them as supplements..
Avatar f tn The best way is to follow a low carb diet. Right now, even though you are only eating fruits and rice and chapati, your diet is mainly sugars and carbs. I know how important rice is for an Asian diet. But honestly... to control weight gain you have to reduce it to very little or none at all. It's only 9 months. Try to reduce your rice/chapati to once a weeks at the most. In order to control my own weight, I ate cooked vegetables, lean meats, and fish.
Avatar f tn I dont think mine have dha in them. I take the target generic brand prenatals with this pregnancy and did with my son and he is a happy healthy almost 3 yr old. My original obgyn with my son said any prenatal is fine and my 2nd with this pregnancy agreed but when I had an appt with a midwife she told me only dha prenatals and I needed a natural brand. Who knows?!
