Avatar n tn Hi, I started indoor tanning about 3 months ago and I've had wonderful results so far. My psoriasis and eczema have cleared up, I have more energy, and my skin feels better than ever. My wounds and cuts heal much faster than before. Before tanning, I'd tried all the creams and lotions, went to several dermatologists, and it didn't help. Recently I read about the risks involved, like melanoma and other cancer.
Avatar n tn According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the most effective products available are sunless tanning or self tanning lotions that contain dihydroxyacetone (DHA) as the active ingredient. The tan is not a dye, stain or paint, but a chemical reaction between the DHA and the amino acids in the dead layer on the skin surface. The reaction is non-toxic and skin safe, without the potential risks associated with UV exposure. The tan is temporary and will fade gradually over 3 to 10 days.
Avatar m tn Hello, According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the most effective products available are sunless- or self-tanning lotions that contain dihydroxyacetone (DHA) as the active ingredient. Another popular form of sunless tanning is the bronzer. These powders and moisturizers, once applied, create a tan that can easily be removed with soap and water. More like make-up, these products tint or stain your skin only until they are washed off.
Avatar f tn I have started Indoor Tanning for pain control for severe fibromyalgia and let me tell you all IT WORKS!!! I am on tons of meds, exercise etc. etc. but still have severe pain. The effects of the deep over all heat from the tanning lights last throughout most of day. It is wonderful. I know people say tanning is bad...but when you suffer every day w/ no relief the benefits outweigh the risks. I do 3x a week for 10-20 minutes. I am 58 years old.
Avatar f tn I was using an indoor tanning salon for 10 days but stopped right before I was 4so weeks because I thought I might be pregnant. I have been taking prenatals for almost 4 months. I am wondering if the tanning could have a negative impact on the pregnancy?
467126 tn?1283144858 There is no safety data on sunless tanning in pregnancy and I tell my patients to avoid chemical tanning at the very least in the first trimester, when the majority of fetal organ formation occurs. But don't forget that fetal neurologic and brain development continues throughout pregnancy (and beyond)!
Avatar n tn We have had a very big campaign in Australia to try to ban indoor tanning. A girl died from a melanoma caused by indoor tanning. Many of the salons have closed do to not knowing the ramifications of it. If you go to a salon make sure they know the rules and regulations on how long etc you should be doing it. Quite honestly it is a dangerous thing as the UV rays are up to 100% stronger than the outdoor sun. So do take care!!! This is regardless of any thyroid or other problem!
Avatar f tn can you use gradually self tanning lotions? Such as Juergens while pregnant?
376148 tn?1309899577 i have asked and researched in tanning is bad while breastfeeding and it isnt...but what about lotion!! Will it go into my breastmilk and wil it harm my baby??
412873 tn?1329174455 The FDA previously approved the use of DHA as an ingredient in tanning products but strictly for topical application only. Spray tanning directly exposes you to DHA because you can inhale it and it will be applied to your face, near the eyes, nose and lip area. The dangers of DHA ingestion are largely unknown.
4658567 tn?1364142123 Can you tan? With tanning lotions or laying outside in sun? Spray tanning? Not tanning bed.. What kind of wax can you use?? Lotion type stuff you leave on for couple minutes then wipe off or whatever? Or is that kind a no?
Avatar n tn s not good for your skin (not that any tanning whatsoever really is). In the middle of January this year, I started tanning again after a few months of not tanning. I also started working out more. I also bought a new type of deodorant & I shave everyday. I know that all of these things are probably the cause of the rash/burning sensation I currently have. I'm just wondering what you think it might be from, and how I can treat it because it hurts badly!!
Avatar f tn I use fale bake. Its a self tanner. But ive ready it also helps with sun tanning. I never tried it tho.
Avatar f tn how long after you give birth do you have to wait to go tanning in a tanning bed ?
176495 tn?1301280412 sorry buddy. only indoor tanning ever messed with my sight. i have had doctor's put me on those 2 things at the same time though. never heard that it was a danger. live and learn. i hope you find a simple solution. oh, one other thing made my vision worse. passing the age of 40! lol.
2102940 tn?1333643102 I've been tanning for prom and after tanning in a bronzing bed several hours later I started hurting on my side. I looked at my side and notice a red rash or burn spot the size of a baseball. It was painful not itchy but hurt. I took some IB for pain and put some cream on the area for the inflammation and went to bed. Got up this morning and the pain has stopped and the spot is all red. Doesn't itch or hurt it's just on my skin and ugly.
Avatar f tn ok so i know you cant use tanning beds but can you lay out in the sun? can you use tanning oil?
Avatar f tn Is it okay to were tanning lotion as long as it have spf. In it? I'm in flordia for 2 weeks and would like to get a little color since I'm pail and aghost.
Avatar f tn ll no longer be using the tanning bed.. these tanning lotions are just easier to use, without any risk at all.
Avatar f tn Does anyone else use it?? Everywhere I've read says that the self tanning lotion is safe because it doesn't absorb into the blood stream only top layer of skin. But no no to spray and fake baking.
Avatar m tn Parabens are proven to cause cancer and are used as a preservative in creams, lotions, shampoos, conditioners etc especially in the fruity kinds of lotions. Look up parabens online and throw away everything in the bathroom/cosmetics etc that have parabens in them. It's going to be expensive when you realize that toothpaste, bar soaps, wetwipes etc all seem to have those ingredients.
Avatar f tn Just use a tanning lotion out of a bottle. Spray tans are dangerous because Drs don't know what inhaling the tanning solution will do to baby and tanning beds are extremely dangerous in pregnancy.
Avatar f tn I have tanned in tanning beds for several years now, but only in the spring just to get a light tan before laying in the sun. I went to tan and used the stand up tanning bed, got a little burnt which wasd no big deal but the next day i had blisters under my arms and back of my legs and they dont itch but they hurt! this has never happened before what shoud i do???
Avatar f tn What are some good tanning lotions that I could use while pregnant?
