907968 tn?1292622204 Look on the bottle of your pills to see how much EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) they contain in each capsule. These oils are good for the heart and brain, and you need 500mg daily for a healthy heart and 1000mg for the brain. Some pills are 1000mg, but only contain 240mg of the essential oils per pill. So, you really need to take 4 of them a day.
611184 tn?1222039645 The participants were asked to take fish oil supplements containing the omega-3 fatty acids EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (decosahexaenoic acid). The surveys findings include: 60% of patients noted an overall improvement in their pain and said their overall pain had improved. 60% of patients specifically reported less joint pain. 80% of patients stated that they were satisfied with their improvement.
Avatar m tn Abstract BACKGROUND Fish is a rich source of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosapentaenoic acid (DPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Although consumption of fish and n-3 PUFA has been reported to protect against the development of some types of cancer, little is known about its association with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
Avatar m tn According to the study, published in the American Journal of Epidemiology, men with higher levels of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) were two-and-a-half times more likely to have an aggressive form of prostate cancer. Something else stunned the research team: men with the highest amounts of trans-fatty acids in their blood appeared to have a 50 percent reduction in their risk of developing prostate cancer!
Avatar m tn Fish oils contains both docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) which are proven in many studies to lower trigs. They slow down the build of artery plaques, reduce the risk of stroke and many other health issues. I think it would be wiser to buy capsules because some fish (thanks to environment poisoning) can contain methylmercury and other chemicals. The label on the packaging will state what forms of omega 3 supplements are contained in the capsules.
Avatar n tn Dear uzair20, If you have a prescription of the eye, glasses or contact lenses may be helpful. There is no cure; however, vitamin A/beta-carotene, DHA [docosahexaenoic acid], diamox for patients with swelling of their macula or area of central vision, and possibly anti-inflammatory agents. I would recommend that you seek the care of a retinal specialist to obtain the most recent up to date information about potential beneficial and harmful treatments. Dr. Feldman Sandy T. Feldman, M.D., M.
Avatar f tn I specifically went to buy prenatal vitamins that included dha in them. Its omega 3 which is a fatty acid that is good for brain development and prevents neural tube defect.
Avatar f tn There is an increasing body of evidence showing that omega-3 fatty acids, particularly eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), limit tumor growth. A certain level of linoleic acid (an omega-6 fatty acid) is required, and it is almost impossible (and not advisable!) to formulate a food that has no omega-6 fatty acids. Rather, we want to increase long-chain omega-3 fatty acids (from fish oils) to reduce the ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids in the food.
Avatar f tn You can find folic acid in leafy greens, citrus fruit, beans and whole grains.
Avatar f tn I get the same as sara Nature's made at Walgreen another thing I use is Krill Oil it helps replenish DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) & EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) both are used to rebuild brain functions & Prostaglandins below is some info on Prostaglandins: DHA AS A BRAIN FOOD Fats make up sixty percent of the brain and the nerves that run every system in the body. So, it stands to reason that the better the fat in the diet, the better the brain.
Avatar n tn You will need to go back on the Effexor and also add supplements containing DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) in your diet. This is an omega-3 fatty acid and helps in maintainingf essential amounts of serotonin in the brain and also elevates mood. Try never to go off any SSRIs abruptly. Withdrawal symptoms, especially after prolonged use, can be quite severe and may be quite difficult to manage. Do keep us posted on your doubts and progress.
1492421 tn?1290300515 personally i take a high quality prenatal vitamin ( Sisu expecting) , a folic acid and a dha. I buy from our local health food store and the ladies there said you can never get enough folic acid. I take the dha kinda for the same reason, most people are low in dha and its extremely important for brain development.
Avatar m tn I am with baby _ nature made + dha. Never made me sick either.
Avatar n tn The connection between omega-3 fatty acid deficiency and ADHD has been confirmed by studies in which youngsters with ADHD, when compared with non-ADHD children had much lower blood levels of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an omega-3 fatty acid necessary for normal function of the eyes and the cerebral cortex (the brain region that handles higher functions such as reasoning and memory). Scientific Evidence Two types of fatty acids are considered essential.
Avatar f tn My Dr. recommended 2mg of folic acid and 400mg of DHA other wise it has no effect and it's not worth taking. My Prenatals only have 228mg of DHA.
Avatar f tn DHA is a kind of Omega 3 fatty acid (which is usually DHA+EPA) Omega 3 s are considered really beneficial for our brain and general health..and considered really good for fertility.. they're found in fatty fish or you can take them as supplements..
668044 tn?1225913014 I remember in our birth class the instructor was saying she things by the research doctors will soon be comparing the importance of DHA to that of folic acid. I certainly don't think it would hurt anything. Good luck!
Avatar f tn It doesn't matter as long as it has dha and folic acid. Whatever settles best with your stomach.

Avatar f tn When pregnant, I took a prenatal, an Omega 3, and folic acid (extra from what was in the prenatal). Iron is also a good idea, if the prenatal doesn't have 100% of the daily recommended dose.
