Avatar m tn t just one substance, Omega three are fatty acids just like Omega 6 fatty acids found in oils and meat etc. Omega 3 are EPA, DHA, and ALA . Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints. It can also reduce your clotting factor if taken in too high doses, causing excessive bleeding.

668044 tn?1225913014 I take One A Day Prenatal with DHA/EPA. The box (for $13) comes with one bottle of 30 prenatals and a bottle of 30 DHA/EPA pills. I have been taking them together through my pregnancy. My OB recommended them if the ones she prescribed didn't work out (they gave me a stomach ache so I went with One A Day). I have heard nothing but good things! I recommend them!
7062279 tn?1388370086 re afraid of the mercury content, but the DHA in capsure form is mercury free, and has a lot of really good benefits for you and baby (if you weren't getting DHA from the pills, or from eating lots of fish, baby would just take the DHA in your body and use that, but you use it too, so you'd be in short supply). It is perfectly safe and even encouraged to help baby grow healthy. I take fish oil capsules on the side, in addition to my prenatal vitamin.
1225070 tn?1344709174 I have read both that they are good and that they are bad, so I asked my doctor and he told me to take Expecta DHA. It has the same if not better benefits and it comes from a plant and not from fish so there is not any mercury or anything bad in it. I never really got a straight answer on the fish oil from him as to why or if it really was bad, so I stopped taking it just in case it was bad; however, DH takes it now as it is beneficial to him!

Avatar f tn t eat seafood. They have 240mg of DHA and 360mg of EPA in 2 capsules. My doctor told me to take them, but online I've been finding that the fish oil and other things in the over the counter supplements may be bad during pregnancy. The pharmacist told me to stop taking them and check with my Dr but my Dr told me to take them. Just wondering if anyone else is taking extra Omega 3 Fatty acids, and if so, what kind?

Avatar f tn I'm 11 weeks pregnant with my 1st child. Just had my first prenatal visit over a week ago. Doc said he wanted me start omega pills & handed me a flyer with different brand name options. The one that stood out was Nordic Naturals. I went to their website, click the pregnancy tab & reviewed the options for pregnancy which were Cod liver oil & Prenatal DHA. My best friend who already has a child told me the cod liver oil was the best so I decided to buy it.

Avatar f tn The FDA says that it is safer to have DHA from a non fish source. I say the DHA is straight from the fish and not good to take! I would not take it or stop. I take the one Enfimil makes and it is I think $11 a month from Walmart and it is from a none fish source. I would tell your ob you wnat another one if you don't want that one!
Avatar f tn The types of omega-3s called DHA and EPA, have the strongest health benefits. The best food source of both DHA and EPA is cold water fatty fish such as salmon, sardines, mackeral, tuna. You can also take Omega 3 supplements. 200 mcg of selenium per day has been found to reduce TPO Antibodies in numerous clinical trials.
