I tried Pristiq in an attempt to help with menopausal symptoms. I was (and am) on Effexor XR, and Pristiq is almost identical to Effexor XR. I think the only difference is in their molecules. I didn't find Pristiq any better (for me) than Effexor XR, so I went back to Effexor XR. I wish you the best of luck with it. I hope it works for you.
Thanks for the feedback. I thought something was up because the main ingredients were exactly the same. I started taking it, and do feel better mentally--but I'm feeling muscular tightness and have a headache. I just wish I could find an anti-depressant that worked and didn't make me feel terrible.

Pristiq has shown the same level of effectiveness as many other antidepressants on the market today — about a 2 point difference in a depression rating scale, compared with a placebo.
Pristiq is kind of a funny SNRI. Remember it was released just before Effexor XR ended it's 7 year patent protection. Effexor and Pristiq are 99% the same drug in terms of active chemical. Pristiq being Desvenlafaxine and Effexor being Venlafaxine. In fact if you look at the molecular chart for the two drugs they even bind the same.

PRISTIQ is an extended-release tablet for oral administration that contains desvenlafaxine succinate, a structurally novel SNRI for the treatment of MDD.
Pristiq is an SNRI while Wellbutrin is not. Abilify is not in either class, it is totally different.
Desvenlafaxine, (Pristiq) like any of the psychotropic meds, has a great number of possible side effects, but a delay in menstrual cycles is NOT listed in the PDR.
If there is no possibility you may be pregnant, the delay in your period is no doubt due to stress relative to the depression.
Since you have only been on desvenalafaxine for one week, I'm assuming your prescribing doctor wants you back for a follow up in a few weeks time.

Interesting fact about Pristiq..... Wyeth's newest Antidepressant medication Pristiq, is actually kind of a sister drug of Effexor XR. In fact in terms of the active ingrediants molecular structure they are about 98% the same.
You know why the Drug Company Wyeth would produce a drug so much like Effexor XR?
Strattera, Adderall XR, Vyvanse, and Daytrana are medications I have taken, my brother takes Concerta. Vyvanse and Adderall XR are the only meds I can take. I have a real sensitive stomach and immune system, and am allergic to a lot so I would think that you can handle most of these.
Let me clairify. Venlafaxine is the exact same active chemical that is in Effexor XR.
The difference is (and this is a huge difference when were talking Venlafaxine) that Effexor XR is an extended release formula. This is where the "XR" terminology comes from. Meaning Extended Release.
The Generic Venlafaxine has no Extended release properties to it such as Effexor XR.
I then took Effexor and later ther Effexor XR. Effexor XR allowed me to live a reasonably normal life raising a child and having a career. For at least 3 years my depression has slowly gotten progressively worse. My counselor and I believe it is time to add an additional medication, possibly welbutrin or change to a different antidepressant. Currently I take 300mg of effexor XR. This is the same level I have taken for the entire time I've used effexor. I would like input and advice.
I'm currently taking both Effexor XR (Venlafaxine XR) and Lithium Carbonate to treat co-morbid my mental illnesses.
I'm just wondering, for anyone taking Effexor XR to treat their Generalized Anxiety Disorder, how do you find it has helped you, in what ways do you think it is inefficient, and what sort of side effects or issues have you had with it?
I was also diagnosed with ADHD a few years ago and was prescribed Adderal XR. The Adderal XR was effective at combating my ADHD symptoms but made my anxiety worse, so my doctor prescribed Strattera. I found the Strattera to be not nearly as effective as Adderal XR, so without consulting my doctor, I began taking both medications together. This is working extraordinarily well.
I mentioned about switching from Effexor Xr 225mg (which on my own I lowered to 150mg) He said that Effexor XR affects two different areas of the body whereas Zoloft only affects one area. Now he mentioned NOTHING about keep taking the Effexor Xr in lower does while I make hte switch to Zoloft. Am I supposed to just switch right over to Zoloft and discontinue the Effexor Xr??
has anyone made it thru the effexor xr withdrawals with success, if so please give detalis on how you did it, i will be starting to taper off of it soon, i really would like to stay off of this drug once im completely off of it,----i know everyone is different but theres got to be some info on how to do this------
i am currently taking 150mg of seroquel xr and 75mg of wellbutrin 3x daily. im taking seroquel xr for bipolar but i seem to have anxiety now. socail anxiety.. could i be miss diagnosed? should i stop taking the wellbutrin for depression and increase my dosage of seroquel xr to 300-400mg?
My daughter has been on Effexor XR 150 MG for about a year. She recently found out that her insurance would not pay for this medicine. Her Dr. put her on Zoloft without wheening her off of the Effexor XR. She is experience symptoms that include feeling very dizzy and nausea. Is this Dr. correct prescribing her this new medicine without slowly wheening her off of the Effexor XR. Are these symptoms due to her going "Cold Turkey" with the Effexor XR? Please advised.
Hello, I hope you can help me. I started taking Effexor XR last month. Recently, I've been experiencing really horrible migraines. They strart in the morning, and last all day, and nothing relives them. I saw my therapist on Friday and she wanted to to start weeing me off by taking 1 as apposed to 2 per day, and starting be on a combination of prozac and "something else".
