My father had a brain tumor removed and now has to take a nasal spray called Desmopressin. His endocranologist only wants him to use it one time a day, but the problem is he goes to the bathroom sometimes every 15 minutes!!!! He is also on 1/2 mg of Dexamethasone and that's part of the problem. Sometimes he takes two puffs a day but the doctor doesn't want him to do that daily.
There is a drug called Desmopressin (DDAVP) it reduces urine production at night. But drinking too much liquid with the medication can cause problems, and Desmopressin should be avoided if you have symptoms such as a fever, diarrhea or nausea. Be sure to carefully follow instructions for using this drug.
Desmopressin is given orally as a tablet and is only for patients over 5 years old.
t mention in your question what medication you were taking. Commonly central DI is treated with desmopressin. Desmopressin works by limiting the amount of water passed in the urine.
I don't know why you would suddenly notice a decrease in your symptoms after 34 years. I would recommend making an appointment with your regular doctor to see what might be causing this. Until you can be seen, it is important that you remain aware of your fluid intake and output.

today the consultant gave me tablets called desmopressin acetate. i understand they reduce urine amounts. will try but cant see them working well.

Is there a medication for Diabetes Insipidus other than Desmopressin? The headaches as a side affect are dibilitating.

DDAVP, Stimate, Minirin) is a synthetic replacement for vasopressin, the hormone that reduces urine production. It may be taken nasally, or as a tablet. Lack of the hormone vasopressin is more common in men than in women. Typically, those that do not produce enough will "correct" by the end of puberty (19-25 years old for men). Check with your urologist about the possibility of this treatment. Best of luck.
s office - mn gastro just called to say that Target/Triessent cannot supply this med as the manufacturer does not have it. I am terrified - need the procrit to complete last 12 weeks of tx -- can anyone help me out with this?
If still the symptoms persist then medical treatment with desmopressin, imipramine and anticholinergics can be tried.

It was taken in Hong Kong but test description only says-Hiv1/2 Ag/Ab (by CMIA), hence I wished to enquire about manufacturer. Not sure if any one other than Abbott manufactures 4th generation CMIA test
The test was done from old and well known lab prescribed by my doctor.
Can changing the manufacturer on your medicine cause them to lose effectiveness or how they are making you feel? Our insurance changed, and when it did I had to go to mail order meds. Since I've had to change, I have been struggling with my moods like I did before medication. (not quite as severe, but it's been a few years since my moods have taken such a severe dive)
Any advice or thoughts would be so welcomed. I cannot handle feeling like this much longer.............
I have been with the same manufacturer of metoprolol succinate for 2 years and had no problems and now they went out of business and the new manufacturer of the same medication isn't working for me!
5 hours before bedtime and was put on desmopressin .2mg nightly over the last year with no success. Her primary doctor added another medication and said to check back in 3 months. Her primary physician said that we should hold back on going to see a urologist. I was wondering if you can give me advise in what to do. HOW do you go about taking to your doctor and demanding a referral to a a specialist as a urologist with out being mean?
If so, what manufacturer makes it? Muscle weakness from Baclofen has been very difficult for me and I am injuring muscles more. In the past, Northstar and Upsher made pills that didn't weaken the muscles as much, but then they changed the formula. Now they weaken muscles far more. Or if you take Baclofen from another manufacturer that does cause significant weakness, tell me which one that is.
The problem comes in when pharmacies buy from different manufacturers. They changed the manufacturer of my T3 med, once and I went downhill in a hurry. I had tell them, which manufacturer I will accept T3 med from, so they flagged my account accordingly.
As MichyDevon said, each manufacturer uses different fillers/binders to which you could react adversely. If you find one that you do well on, there shouldn't be any reason not to take it, so long as your doctor is okay with it.
I have seen urologists, done physical therapy, taken desmopressin, set alarms to wake up in the night, cut back my liquid intake in the evenings, had my bladder checked for abnormalities (there are none), used moisture-sensitive alarms, and attempted to train myself to make sure that I am fully awake when I get up in the night to urinate.
Sadly, none of these solutions have worked. People say that bedwetting is a problem that people grow out of, but I am starting to believe that I never will.
Please refer to the testing instructions included with your test by the manufacturer. Since no one would ever bother running the test without swabbing, this question is hypothetical. I too have DI but i take desmopressin and hydrocortizone daily. I found if I break the 20mg desmopressin into quarters I do better. The 5mg just didn't seem to work for me. I take it morning and night and other than a 10lb weight gain I have not had any side affects. If I don't take enough I feel fatigued and if I take to much my weight goes up but when the dose was decreased the bulk of the weight came off.
